Sandy Hook killer Adam Lanza obsessed with Norwegian mass murderer Anders Brevik?
Sandy Hook Elementary school gunman Adam Lanza may have been motivated by a horrific 2011 mass shooting in Norway, as the 20-year-old plotted his own massacre.
Law enforcement officials investigating Lanza’s tragic December shooting in Newtown, Conn., that left 20 children and six educators dead at the school, told CBS News that Lanza saw himself as a competitor to Anders Breivik, the deranged Norwegian man who killed 77 people in series of attacks in 2011, in a sick imagined mass-murder contest.

Two officials said evidence had been uncovered suggesting that Lanza was determined to top Breivik’s death count. The officials added that investigators had found credible evidence that Lanza was probably even obsessed with Breivik.
They also found evidence that Lanza had zeroed in on Sandy Hook Elementary School because he felt it was the “easiest target" with the "largest cluster of people."
Anders Breivik detonated a car bomb near the Norwegian government’s headquarters on July 22, 2011, killing eight and injuring more than 200. Hours later, he opened fire at a summer camp, killing 69, most of whom were teens.
On July 22, 2011, Breivik detonated a car bomb near the Norwegian government’s headquarters in Oslo, killing eight people and injuring more than 200.
Hours later, he opened fire at the annual summer camp of the governing Labor Party's youth wing. killing 69 people. Most of the victims were teenagers. He surrendered to police when they arrived at the camp and, in August, was sentenced to 10 to 21 years in prison, the longest allowed under Norwegian law.

In Norway, such sentences can be extended if an inmate is considered too dangerous to be released. Experts have said that Breivik is likely to spend the rest of his life in prison.
During his own massacre, Lanza, who may have been mimicking a gory scenario in one of the violent games he loved to play, may have gone on to kill even more people, but he turned one of his guns on himself as police closed in on the school.
The troubled 20-year-old has been described by family friends as a lonely young man who isolated himself in his bedroom for hours, sometimes days, playing graphically violent video games.

- Absolutely sickening. The Newtown shooter was inspired by the Swedish campsite shooter who was inspired by the Oklahoma City bomber. What sick jerks. Let's hope NO mentally disturbed kid lurking in America basements playing video games now is inspired by the last guy.
- He wasn't inspired by Oklahoma City. What nonsense. He was inspired by far Right American anti-Islamic bloggers, who he named in his writings.
- Judge Franklin...Mario Lanza
- I'm obsessed with Richard Loeb, but at least he was smoking hot.
- The OC bomber was inspired by gay killer Jeffry Dahmer and gay killer John Wayne Bobbitt.
- And yet his dumb mom kept assault rifles and ammo in their home
- Whatever happened to original killers who inspired themselves and showed creativity?
- What happened to the corporate tax attorney father?
- Anyone watch the Frontline special on PBS Tuesday night? Reporters from the Hartford Courant tried to piece together the truth about Nancy Lanza. I don't excuse her having guns in the house, but the report did shed light on the difficulties of dealing with a kid like him and the lack of effective help in the school system.
- I didn't see it r9, but there is no lack of support in the Newtown school system for kids like him. His parents failed him. If he was on the autism spectrum and was entitled to an individualized education program, his parents did not involve the school. Newtown public schools spends vastly more per kid than the national average, and there are tons of resources available to those who need them. His parents had plenty of money to spend on private counseling and didn't.
Plus, he had been out school for a few years. How can anyone blame the school system?
Newtown Native
- I saw the Frontline episode. It didn't provide much new information though it was interesting to watch that high school teacher scrambling to cover his own ass.
- Coincidence? I think not!

- Thanks a lot, Norway.
- [quote]far Right American anti-Islamic bloggers,
More like Israel firsters.
- No, R14. The biggest haters of Muslims are the same people who would admit they hate the Jews if you gave them a few beers.
- Pamela Geller was one of the primary bloggers who inspired the Norwegian shooter, R15. I'm pretty sure she doesn't hate Jews, but she sure as hell embodies the worst of a Jewish person. A vile woman who only hates Neo-Nazis because they include Jews as targets. If they didn't, she'd be one of them.
- [quote]. He was inspired by far Right American anti-Islamic bloggers, who he named in his writings.
Was Debbie Schlussel named in his manifesto?
- R10 is right, the public schools in that area are really good.
- The fact that one of the bloggers was a Jew doesn't mean the people who inspired him were "Israel firsters." He didn't care about Israel. He cared about Norway.
- Just because the school system is affluent and they can afford to hire specialists to work in the special ed program doesn't mean those employees were good at their jobs. They are protected by the NEA, you know.
- The National Endowment for the Arts?
- "Coincidence? I think not!"
What coincidence?
- Oops.

- Brevik had logic -- sick, anti-social logic, but logic nonetheless.
The Aurpra guy was mad at the world and decided the world had to pay (as long as he didn't get hurt.)
Lanza had nothing beyond shooting his mother in the head and then moving on to the school, and then preferring to die rather than facing the police.
- [quote] Newtown shooter was inspired by the Swedish campsite shooter
There was no Swedish. campsite shooter
- Lanza's mother kept taking him out of the school system.
I live in a small, not very wealthy school district. The boy across the street is autistic. He entered schooling at a community-funded preschool for children with disabilities when he was two years old. He went into the local public school in kindergarten and has an aide. If he didn't have autism, he would have gone onto the high school this past year. But the school system kept him in intermediate school. They sometimes keep autistic kids in intermediate school for years.
He has a woman who comes to his house and gives him "socialization" help. The school funds her position. He also sees therapists at the local state university hospital. There are tons of resources for autistic kids.
The mother of an autistic schoolmate Of Adam Lanza's was talking to PBS and she mentioned that her child had an aide in school. They asked her if Adam had an aide and she said no. She said she never asked Nancy Lanza why Adam didn't have an aide. My guess is that Namcy didn't want him to have an aide for some reason. Because schools will provide then for qualified kids and Adam Lanza certainly qualified.
And Adam Lanza seemed more schizophrenic than autistic to me.
- The PBS show said that Adam's mother was determined that he get some kind of degree. She was going to move, possibly to North Carolina.
It was insane if her to think that he needed a degree. What was he going to do with it, get a job on Wall Street? Start a hedge fund, design his own graphically violent video games? Get a job at an ad agency, become an accountant? WTF was she thinking?
- Brevik was inspired by McVeigh and the Unabomber
- He looked like Edna May Oliver.
- Nobody seemed to know her really well.
Nobody mentioned the brother. What was his relationship with Adam like? What about the brother's relationship with his mother?
Was the brother living with the father after separation or was he living with Adam and his mother?
