- It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. The decade that gave us greats like Led Zeppelin, Queen, Black Sabbath, Bee Gees, Pink Floyd, The Eagles, Aerosmith, Fleetwood Mac, Deep Purple, Donna Summer, Earth Wind & Fire, Ohio Players, Cheap Trick, Foghat, E.L.O., Kiss, AC/DC, Blue Oyster Cult, Boz Scaggs, Carole King, ABBA, Yes, etc. also gave us the shitty likes of Donny & Marie, Captain & Tennille, Starland Vocal Band, Paper Lace, Edison Lighthouse, Helen Reddy, Shaun Cassidy, Leif Garrett, and Rick Dees. For every great act, there were several shitty novelty acts. Overall, it was probably the best decade for music ever, excusing the bad stuff.

I'd swap all of that for the torture they call pop music today.
- Thank you, R1. Now I am going to have that horrific piece of shit song stuck in my head for the rest of the day. Clint Holmes should have been drawn and quartered for unleashing that turd on the ears of humanity. LOL. R2, I had forgotten about Run Joey Run, that was a nightmare of a song too.
Telephone Man by Meri Wilson. The worst.

- Billy, don't be a hero, don't be a fool with your life.
- Everything is beautiful . . .
. . . in its own way
- I wouldn't put the Captain and Tennille in with the bad stuff. Toni Tennille is one of the most underrated vocalists in pop music, doing session work for Pink Floyd and Elton John.
And their own music holds up pretty well. Plus the Captain was hot as fuck back in the day.
- I'd like to teach the OP how to write a thread.

- I'd also like to teach him how to sing - in perfect harmony.
- Daddy Don't You Walk So Fast.
- R4 is on the right track. One thing people forget is that the '70s was the dawn of FM. Most pop stations were AM then. FM stations tended to play more of the rock we like to remember. A lot of the good stuff was also on AM, but you seldom heard most of the bad stuff on FM. For the most part, the rise of easy listening FM came later in the decade and in the 80's.

Whoo!

The seventies did have a lot of incredibly bad songs become hits. Lots of them hit number one! Here are some of them:
"You Light Up My Life" by Debbie Boone
"Lovin' You" by Minnie Riperton
"Feelings" by Albert Morris

- I went to my apartment on a Monday at one
A-singin' do lolly, lolly shicky bum, shicky bum
Started movin' in it on a Tuesday at two
A-singin' do lolly, lolly shicky do, shicky do
Wednesday at three I called the phone company, singin':
"Hey baby, put a phone in for me"
Thursday at four he came a-knockin' at my door, singin':
"Hey, baby, I'm your telephone man
You just show me where you want it and I'll put it where I can
I can put it in the bedroom, I can put it in the hall
I can put it in the bathroom, I can hang it on the wall
You can have it with a buzz, you can have it with a ring
And if you really want it you can have a ding-a-ling
Because-a hey baby, I'm your telephone man"
Can you believe that? And then he says:
"Now when other fellas call ya tell 'em how it all began"
Well...can you imagine?
My heart began a-thumpin' and my mind began to fly
And I knew I wasn't dealin' with no ordinary guy
So while he was a-talking I was thinkin' up my plan
Then my fingers did the walkin' on the telephone man
Singin' hey lolly, lolly
Hey lolly, lolly
Hey lolly, lolly
Get it any way you can
Right? Ha ha ha, so...
I got it in the bedroom, and I got it in the hall
And I got it in the bathroom, and he hung it on the wall
I got it with a buzz, and I got it with a ring
And when he told me what my number was I got a ding-a-ling
A-singin' hey lolly, lolly
Hey lolly, lolly
Hey lolly, lolly
Just-a doin' my thing

- Never Done it Like That is one of my favorite songs. One of their big hits that escapes the schmaltz. Toni had one of the best voices ever to record but some of the songs were a bit, well, cheesy.
The album that song came from also had one of the best covers ever.

- The funny thing is how even the most wretched of these songs brings back a memory. Music jolts the memory more than anything else. I was more into the F.M. Rock of the time, but these Top 40 Songs really take me back and put a smile on my face (well, except for Playground In My Mind, that one still makes me sick lol.
- R73, Exactly. I hear one of these songs and I see the smiling faces in my memories, of friends, family members, classmates from school, many of whom are no longer with us. These songs take me to a happy place in childhood, before I knew death and loss. Many of these songs I hated in the '70s. I still do not care for most of them, but they do bring in floods of memories and a big smile to my face.
- OP, do you mean people who had one hit? Because some of these songs are cheesy and awful but the performers had more than one hit and some were quite popular.

- What else could "one time radio hit" mean r75? The OP should've used the phrase "one-hit-wonder" but didn't, so the one hit stipulation has been generally ignored.

- R52, I hated "Seasons in the Sun" in 1974 or whenever it first came out. I thought it was so happy, so cheerful.
But over the years I came to understand the song. It's by Jacques Brel. The singer, who is dying, is saying goodbye to his best friend and then to his cheating wife, who had an affair with the best friend. None of this, of course, came through in 1974.
If you don't understand French, check out the Kingston Trio rendition, which is much more emotionally true than the weirdness by Terry Jacks.

While this is supposed to be cheesy one-hit-wonders, one of the best one-hit-wonders was "Soavecito" by Malo (Carlos Santana's brother was in the group). If you don't know or don't remember, give it a listen. Pretty timeless.

Focus.
- R103 I hated that song with a passion. I think I only heard it in its entirety one or two times. After that I ran for the radio dial and changed the channel.
- To be fair, R105-OP did not say "One hit wonder"-he said "one time radio hits"-whatever the hell that means.
- You are probably right OP, after the Beatles' breakup even they, individually, contributed to the cheesiness. I did like ABBA and alot of the disco music though.

- R104 had me cackling with that first one and now I can't get it out of my head. For those of you who don't know it, read these lyrics with a country accent and you get the gist:
"I love little baby ducks, old pickup trucks, Sunday school in May... and hay." (and then sung/howled) And IIIII love you too."
Still, "Playground in my Mind" has to win as the all-time worst. This is not a matter of gay or straight, gays hate it just as much, I would even guess that women hate it as much as men. Pure vomit. I dare you to track it down and listen. :)
- R91: I love Sauvecito!
- For whatever reason, I have a memory of Bernadette Peters singing I Love. IIRC, she sang it on Dinah! Dinah Shore's talk show.
- I also love Suavecito. It still sounds great all these years later.
Back on topic, 'Alone Again Naturally' by Gilbert O'Sullivan was music to slit your wrists by.
- Does anyone remember a song that included the line, "My fingers did a walking on the Telephone Man?" I vaguely remember it from my childhood, but not enough to look it up.

OK some 70's one hits.
1. Smokin in the Boys Room
2. Midnight at the Oasis
3. Rock & Roll Hootchie Koo
4. Disco Duck
5. Magnet & Steel (although I liked that one--my bad taste)
- "Kung Fu Fighting" is one of those songs I only like when I'm drunk. Sober, I don't care for it.

- You guys are finding some classics. Tony DeFranco was meant to challenge Donny Osmond but that was short-lived; this was their only hit and I loved it as a (little gay) boy.
But that Sister Janet Mead "music video" is one of the funniest things I have ever seen. Love the fancy footwork and synchronized genuflecting. I loved that song as a boy too or maybe was afraid not to, lightning strike or whatever. But had never seen that visual. Did she later commit suicide or was that The Singing Nun? Some celebrity nun did.
- They weren't one-hit-wonders, but the Osmonds put out a lot of cheesy crap in the 70s.

- Awww... R129. That's a great song. Splendid production and recorded sound, too. But that cover was an embarassment, The guys all airbrushed, and in baby blue & pink. I was as self-concious buying it as Christian Bale was buying the "Brian Slade" LP (with it's quite obvious visual reference to Jobriath) in "Velvet Goldmine". Ha ha.
Poor Jo, he was a no-hit wonder. The biggest hype of the glam/glitter era. Here he is, with a charming build up by Gladys Knight. Who mispronounces his name, bless her.

Old (and in the way)
- R129, I hope that song is not considered cheesy but I loved it then and still love it today.
I also loved Angie Baby, Afternoon Delight, Midnight at the Oasis, Moonlight Feels Right, If You Leave Me Now, Wildfire, Cats in the Cradle, A Horse With No Name, Everybody's Beautiful, Candy Man--ok so what if they're not the greatest songs in the world, they were catchy and bring back good memories for me.
- [quote]I just found out a few days ago that Minnie riperton is Maya Rudolph's mother.
Near the end of "Loving You", Minnie is singing "Maya, Maya"...I'm old and I've known for years that they were mother-daughter.
- Yeah that Babys song is cool, not cheesy at all. I don't really remember it, but I like it. "Every Time I Think Of You" was their other hit and is more familiar, and I like that too. I'll have to download their GH. Good glam-rock like "Love Is Like Oxygen", also listed here (but only by one person.)

- R95, wasn't Band of Gold supposed to be about a man abandoning his wife on their honeymoon for another man? Can't be arsed listening to the whole song again for the narrative, though, so if anyone knows...
- A lot of terrible songs here to be sure, but nothing compares to the horror that Tony Orlando and Dawn unleashed with Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree.
It's not the song itself (no worse than Knock Three Times on the Ceiling), it's the fact that it created this national obsession with ribbons for every fucking thing that comes down the pike.
- "Love is Like Oxygen" is a great song!
- How do we feel about Harper Valley PTA?
- Funny Face I love you. Funny Face I need you. These are the sweetest words I've ever heard.
LA International Aiirrrport. Where the big jet engines roar.
- R140 It was "Telephone Man" by Meri Wilson. Search for it again on YouTube, it's there. It was a 1977 novelty song. Horrible, but hilarious. She had a string of lesser-hit novelty songs and she died about ten years ago.
Shicky bum, Shicky bum
- R145 1968
- Has Cher made this thread yet? I can remember at least three major clinkers from the period:
Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves.
Half Breed.
Dark Lady.
Clinkers, but FUN clinkers
- r147 Mari Wilson is still alive.
- Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes) - Edison Lighthouse
Long-Haired Lover From Liverpool - Jimmy Osmond
Jim Dandy - Black Oak Arkansas
Hocus Pocus - Focus
Junk Food Junkie - Larry Groce
Welcome Back (Bathhouse Theme) - John Sebastian
Wham Bam (Shang-a-Lang) - Silver
Disco Duck - Rick Dees
Jeans On - David Dundas
King Tut - Steve Martin
Makin' It - David Naughton
Video Killed The Radio Star - The Buggles
Rainbow Connection - Kermit the Frog
The Bureau of Shitty Songs
- "Come on down to my place, baby
We'll talk about love
Come on down to my place, woman
We'll make loooooooooooooooooooooove
Hot child in the city
Runnin' wild & lookin' pretty"
Hot child in the city - Nick Gilder - 1978
- I think Hot Child is ok, though I have heard his other music and the rest of it sucks. So he's certainly a one-hit-wonder.
- R146 wins..... by a mile.
- [quote]Makin' It - David Naughton
Nah ah!!
You can't be a card-carrying gay and not like this song. Corny sitcom lyrics aside (blame Laverne & Shirley for the beggining of the end for sitcom lyrics about making it to the top my way and no one can stop me because believe it or not I believe in myself one day at a time etc etc), "Makin 'it" featured an infectuous beat performed by an effervescent hottie (70's standards).
Leave David alone.
- Non stop. To the top.
- I think I would prefer one-hit wonders all the time like back in the day (many times the full record was good) than to have the same artists releasing. There is no diversity anymore.
- Very pop, very white, but I dare you sit still through the whole thing.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9T3kaSyrdjY
Brought to you by Dr. Pepper
- Randy Newman: ugh, such a horrible voice and overrated songs
- Makin' it...non-stop.
Makin' it...to the top.
Right here, right now...
An American Werewolf in London
- R150 - Meri Wilson died in 2002, at the age of 53, after she lost control of her car on Georgia State Route 377 in Americus, Georgia, during an ice storm.
Ansley Records released a self-titled album in 2002 which included all of her known recorded novelty songs.
* Not to be confused with MAry Wilson of the Supremes.
The Telephone Man
- About a year later, Meri Wilson had a moderate hit with
"PETER THE METER READER"
Here we go again
I was lying on my back porch just a-getting some sun
Had my hair done up in pigtails had my swiming suit on
I was just about asleep when there came a shadow over me
I opened up my eyes to peek and what did I see-ee
There was a man what a man looking down on me
Tall dark and handsome, six foot three
There was a look in his eyes that was telling me
He knew that there was something that he wanted to see
He said "Hi my name is Peter
And I'm here to read your meter
I'd like to see your kilowatts
Could you take me to your box"
I didn't have the slightest notion where that box could be
But I said to Peter won't you follow me
We went upstairs downstairs inside and out
I just loved having Peter follow me about
He said "Hey what's with you fox
Can't you take me to your box
I came here to see your meter
They call me Peter the meter reader"
By the time he found my meter it was a quarter past four
And he said to watch my heater as he was walking through my door
Every single kilowatt was a-looking just fine
And he'd be coming back to see them in another month's ti-i-ime
So now I'm waiting yes I'm waiting so patiently
To have my sweet sweet Peter read my meter for me
Maybe I should tell you so you'll understand
That Peter used to be my telephone man
Singing hey-laddy-laddy hey-laddy-laddy hey-laddy-laddy
Get it any way you can
I've never done anything like this before...well...
Peter The Meter Reader
- Elderlez here...and I love all of this stuff. I'll take "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "Philadelphia Freedom" over the crap masquerading for music nowadays.
Smackin%27%20you%20with%20my%20walker
- The Bertha Butt Boogie by Jimmy Castor Bunch.
So awful, but so good at the same time.
Bertha
- I always hate, HATE, HATED "Lay Lady Lay" by Bob Dylan. I once threw my little transistor radio into the swimming pool because it dared to play that pile of shit.
Not a One Hit Wonder, but...
I loved Eric Clapton, but I always hated "I Shot The Sheriff". I hated Bob Marley's version too. Awful song.
I just thought of another one... "Candida" by Tony Orlando and Dawn... Ugh!
Sherilyn
- I always wondered when I got older why Tony Orlando was singing about a yeast infection.
- In the 70's, it was about THE MUSIC, not these cults of personality like Beyonce and Gaga and all the rest of these "artists" today.
I Want Your Love, Bad Girls, Just a Singer In A Rock and Roll Band, Taking Care of Business - god, give me back the 70's!
- A horrid one I can never forget...
"Without Your Love (Mr. Jordan)" - Charlie Ross
If you don't remember it, consider yourself blessed. It was fucking atrocious.
The cheeseball lyrics. I just checked. It's on YouTube. Sing away...
Honey, we've been married
Going on five years
And my love for you
Grows stronger everyday
Funny, no one thought
This love of ours would last
But we knew this love of ours
Was here to stay
Without your love
I know that I'd be nothing
And without you
I know I surely die
(Hello) hello, sweetheart
Is that wife of yours around
Cause I'd like to know if
You're seeing me tonight
Don't worry, Mr. Jordan
I'll be over right away
My wife won't mind
If I work late tonight
Honey, do you really love me
(Yes, Mr. Jordan)
I just can't stand being away
From you for so long
(Well, just ease your mind, Mr. Jordan
I'll be right over)
I don't need to tell you
You know I hate to go
It seems I always leave you all alone
It's all right
I'm sure he really needs you
So I think you'd better go
I'll just fall asleep
And dream till you come home
Goodbye, sweetheart
(So long, honey)
(Hello) hi, sweetheart, guess what
My husband's finally gone
And I can't wait till
I'm in your arms tonight
Without your love
I know that I'd be nothing
And without you
I know I'd surely die
Without your love
I know that I'd be nothing
And without you
I know I'd surely die
Posting while vomiting
- I loathed 'Chuck E.'s in Love' by Rickie Lee Jones. Could not stand that song. My older sister had the 45 and played it over and over. When she graduated and moved out I put that 45 on the floor and stomped it into a billion bite-sized pieces.
- Top Of The World - The Fucking Carpenters
You Are The Sunshine of My Life - Stevie Wonder
Stuck In The Middle With You - Stealer's Wheel
One Bad Apple - The Fucking Osmonds
I Am Woman - 'HELL'en Reddy
Basketball Jones - Cheech & Chong (irritating)
Paper Roses - Marie Fucking Osmond
Puppy Love - Donny Fucking Osmond
Happy Days Theme - Pratt & McClain
Sunshine On My Shoulders - John Denver
Sundown - Gordon Lightfoot
Beach Baby - First Class
Some of the above were not one-hit wonders, but I hate them so I listed them anyway.
- Since Helen Reddy songs have been mentioned, I'll add "Keep on Singing" (don't stop singing) to the list.
Tony Orlando and Dawn's "Who's in the Strawberry Patch with Sally" and "Say Has Anybody Seen My Sweet Gypsy Rose" were atrocious tunes from their "Tie a Yellow Ribbon" time.
"A Cowboy's Work is Never Done" by Sonny and Cher was a dumb song but hey, it sounded kinda good anyway if you imagine it as a theme song used for a movie or TV show.
There was an endless supply of twangy, catchy pop songs that took off on top 40 radio too.
"Rocking Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu" by Johnny Rivers, Jim Stafford's "Spiders and Snakes"/"My Girl Bill", the Bellamy Bros. "Let Your Love Flow", and "Baby Boy" by Mary Kay Place to name just a few.
Neil Sedaka and Bobby Vinton recorded comeback hits too like "Bad Blood" and "My Melody of Love" and Ringo Starr had chosen to go the cheesy route with songs like "The No No Song."
Melanie
- My two least favorite '70s songs have already been mentioned. They were both so bad that they warrant mentioning again.
1. Playground In My Mind - Clint Holmes
2. You Make Me Feel Like Dancing - Leo Sayer
I really dislike those two songs.
Grant F.
- Look what they've done to my song ma.

- I just thought of a really, really bad one.
"Watching Scotty Grow" by Mac Davis, 1972
I also hated "We Go Together" by The Grease Cast, from the soundtrack album, 1978
Hideously Revolting
- R171, thanks for reminding me about Rocking Pneumonia - that was always one of my favorites - stupid lyrics, but very catchy. :)
- Heaven on the 7th Floor - Paul Nicholas
http://www.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DohW49tIdy0c
- I've just closed my eyes again
Climbed aboard the dreamweaver train
Driver, take away my worries of today
And leave tomorrow behind
- These are all Wonder Bread White songs.
Were there any cheeseball R&B '70s hits?
- Weird but wonderful: "Lonely Boy" by Andrew Gold (Marni Nixon's son!)

RIP
- This thread is about cheesy, crappy artists but even a legend like Aretha Franklin was not immune to bad taste during the 70s. Her disco album, La Diva, is one of the worst records she ever put out.
- "Sad Eyes" is a strong contender to own this thread.
http://www.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DQtdOpnCBLj8
- R179 I just was looking for the CD of the album "Lonely Boy" is on.

- [quote]Heaven on the 7th Floor - Paul Nicholas
Christ, Paul Nicholas was gorgeous. He played Cousin Kevin in the "Tommy" movie and went on to be a big West End stage star. Hasn't aged well though.

- [quote]These are all Wonder Bread White songs. Were there any cheeseball R&B '70s hits?
Oh yeah -
Me & Mrs. Jones - Billy Paul
Kung Fu Fighting - Carl Douglas
If Loving You Is Wrong (I Don't Wanna Be Right)- Luther Ingram
Want Ads - Honey Cone
Armed & Extremely Dangerous - First Choice
A Fifth Of Beethoven - Walter Murphy
Disco Lucy - Wilton Place Street Band
Rocking Chair - Gwen McRae
And, in the phone-sex genre:
Party Line - Andrea True Connection
Hot Line - The Sylvers
Walking In The Rain With The One I Love - Love Unlimited
Doctor's Orders - Carol Douglas
The last two weren't as much corny as they were difficult to pull off in a live performance
However, ALL these songs, corny as they were, had a great groove or a fantastic beat to dance to, and therein lies the difference.

The 70's answer to I'm Too Sexy
- "Shannon", about the dead dog. A very depressing, horribly written song. The guy's voice was super annoying too. When songs this bad become big hits, you have to wonder.
A lot of these songs listed were HUGE hits, it really goes to show the horrid taste of the general public!
- I like that song R185!
corny
- "Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes) - Edison Lighthouse"
Oh well. Love this one anyhow. And Me and Mrs. Jones, Armed and Extremely Dangerous, Want Ads too.
- Shannon the dog drifted out to sea.
Wildfire busted down his stall and died in a blizzard.
Emma killed herself because she couldn't get hired as an actress.
Timothy got eaten by his mates when the mine caved in.
Little Sister killed one man and her cheap sister-in-law but her brother got hanged for it.
The Blind Man in the bleachers had to die to see his son play football. And the organ grinder with the little monkey died too. Another poor old guy gave his wife a daisy a day even on her tombstone after... well, you know.
What else? Radio was kind of scary in the '70s if you were a child. I either cried or was spooked by a lot of these (though none creeped me out as much as Led Zeppelin's "Black Dog" did then).
- P.S. How could I forget Joey who dodged a bullet from his girlfriend's Dad, took her in his arms, looked down and saw his hands were red and here's the last words Julie said....... "daddy, please don't, it wasn't his fault..."
And the angels sing: "aaaaaaaAHHHHHH, AHHHHHHaaaaaa."
- R178 - Yes, there were cheesy R&B songs too. Music in the 70s was equal opportunity cheese.
Disco Lady - Johnnie Taylor
Mr. Big Stuff - Jean Knight
This Will Be - Natalie Cole
Dancing Machine - The Jackson Five
Ease On Down The Road - Diana & Michael
Boogie Fever - The Sylvers
Hot Line - The Sylvers
Loving You - Minnie Ripperton
Everyone's A Winner - Hot Chocolate
You Sexy Thing - Hot Chocolate
Car Wash - Rose Royce
Get Dancin' - Disco Tex & The Sexolettes
Don't Wanna Bump No More (With No Big Fat Woman) - Joe Tex
Bertha Butt Boogie - Joe Tex
(Push, Push) In The Bush - Musique
Kung Fu Fightin' - Carl Douglas
Macho Man - Village People
Hot Cop - Village People
Love Hangover - Diana Ross
Superman - Celi Bee & The Buzzy Bunch
Shake Your Groove Thing - Peaches & Herb
In The Summertime - Mungo Jerry
R&B Phan
- Ring My Bell - Anita Ward
In The Navy - Village People
They're signing up the se(a)men fast
- I've got to second that 'Without Your Love (Mr. Jordan) song. I had forgotten about that stinker until someone mentioned it in this thread. I think that was the worst one-hit wonder of the '70s. I think it was out in either late 1975 or early 1976, if memory doesn't fail me.
- Granted he's not "one time" but I'm shocked no one has mentioned Barry Manilow yet, since we're talking cheesy and crappy.
Oh, and I loved him. Especially "Somewhere in the Night" and "Ready to Take a Chance Again".
- r100 Mouth was a hot proto-bear in the video for How Do You Do
- for everyone listing Charlene and Never Been To Maine, it's from the 80's, when pop culture really took a nosedive
- I graduated high school in the mid-1970s. Just mentioning these songs brought back many memories.
Someone wrote in one my yearbooks: "These might not be the best of times, these might not be the worst of times, but these are only time that we will ever know."
The music of the 1970s ... not the best, not the worst, but the only music that my friends and classmates knew
- Sounds like there are a lot of queers in this group, by the names of those songs. What gives here---isn't this this the John Birch Society adjunct site?
- When Will I See You Again --the Three Degrees!
- Uh, I LOVE that song r199.
- r196
Never been to Maine?
LMAO!!
- "I've Never Been to Me" is the title of a ballad, written and compsed by Ron Miller and Kenneth Hirsch, which is best known via a recording by American pop singer Charlene. Its original release in 1977 barely registered on the Billboard Hot 100 in the U.S., but its re-release in early-1982 peaked at #3 and earned her a gold certification.
It was originally released in 1977!
It's still one of the worst songs ever recorded.
Ben
- Ok, R161. I was thinking of MARI Wilson, the British singer who used to dress up in 60s drag in the 80s. She's still alive.
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_tgKMqswayw8/TUMZ_CeIM4I/AAAAAAAAHwY/NKXIZMLhshs/s1600/MariWilson6.jpg
r150
- "Never Been To Maine"? Wow. Now, I know Three Dog Night has "Never Been To Spain" and Charlene has "Never Been To Me". Was "Never Been To Maine" the follow-up single to "It Never Rains In Southern California"?
Helga
- My best friend and I have loved David Naughton's 'Makin' It' since we were in college in the late 90s. It's so cheesy it's infectious, and we've always called it our "theme song." The song was featured in a movie called "Detroit Rock City" back in around '98 and that's where we first heard it.
- I've been to paradise.... but I've never been to Maine.
http://www.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DPb9g2o5gyYY
- I remember "Makin' It" was a huge hit in the Summer of 1979, when I was 14. It got lots of play at the Skating Rink that year. David Naughton was one hot looking mutha-fucka too. I remember in 1981, when An American Werewolf In London came out, my best buddy and I were in love with him and we went to see that movie five times. Then when it was on HBO in 1982, we recorded it and watched it many more times. I wore the videotape out in the spot where he had his full frontal scene. Beautiful cock!Yummy!
Jeff
- At the 2:52 mark, does she sing.... the subtle whoring that costs too much to be free?
- "Granted he's not "one time" but I'm shocked no one has mentioned Barry Manilow yet, since we're talking cheesy and crappy."
He did Could It Be Magic and because of that I can't get on his case. I love that song, cheesy or not.
- It gave us some of the best club dance music..Relight My Fire, Harmony, Dyin To Be Dancin, New Toy, anything from fucking Sylvester..I could go on and on....
Anon
- Is this my beginning or is it the end?
When will I see you again?
- I can't believe that no one has listed the travesty known as "Wonderful Christmastime" by Sir Paul McCartney & His Wings from late 1979. Pure garbage.
Also, anything by Shaun Cassidy (Da Doo Ron Ron; Hey Deanie; That's Rock 'n' Roll - I remember those because my sister had his 45's -I hated those songs).
I also hated "Ring My Bell" by Anita Ward. Awful. Catchy music but her voice was sooooo shrill.
- Patches...I'm dependin' on you son...

- England Dan and John Ford Coley for your listening pleasure:

- "You light up my life, you give me hope, to carry on. You light up my days, and fill my nights with song"
Suck on that, bitches!
Love, Debby Boone
Trivia: Debby Boone nearly joined the all-girl group The Runaways. She auditioned in 1976 and...
just kidding, I can't even joke about that.
Pat's Daughter
- Shaun Cassidy was my first real crush. A couple years later in college I got to be an extra in a TV show shooting in this small town and the star was, guess who, Shaun Cassidy. I had to chase him in a scene and it required close proximity.
The first time I saw him in person, I started shaking so bad, I had to go outside and get myself together. cringe-worthy, yes, I know, Mary!
Later I met him again when casting something and, by then, he was just another actor looking for a gig (though he refused to sit in the waiting room with other actors, not an unusual request from the famous). No more shakes but I still checked him out from behind as I walked him down the hall. so damn cute.
- And Debbie's sister was our first Poster Child for Bulemia. Karen C had Anorexia but Miss Boone was the first to write and give us an image of her eating garbage off the kitchen floor. always loved her for that somehow.
- "Me & You & A Dog named Boo"
Oy. Vey. Iz. Mere.
- The worst song of the '70s was "Cum-Dump Woman" by Fabio & The Felchers. The follow-up single, "Fisting To Be Famous" tanked on release and the group disbanded.
- "Boogie Woogie Dancin' Shoes" by Claudja Barry from 1978/79. I loved disco, but this one left a lot to be desired.
- Every year during the holidays, I'll hear that awful "Wonderful Christmastime" song by McCartney and Wings over the PA system in stores and such and it just makes my skin crawl. I hate hate hate that song with a passion.
IIRC, there was a thread here on DL long ago about "Wonderful Christmastime" and how much everybody fucking hated it.
- 70s radio had more than its share of horrors, it's true. But hands-down, the prize for Worst Song of the Decade -- and perhaps Worst Song Ever -- has got to be Paul Anka's maudlin, nauseatingly sexist ode to male smugness and narcissism, "Havin' My Baby."
Seriously, it makes my skin crawl just thinking about it.
I can't believe that none of you bitches mentioned this one. Okay, technically, Paul Anka wasn't a one-hit wonder -- but neither are a lot the other singers and bands that have been mentioned here.
Maybe this one was so terrifying everybody developed a mental block about it?
http://youtu.be/-ZNtcCM3Cvo
- Some others for the list:
Eric Carmen, "All by Myself" -- in the shitshow that was 70s Top 40 pop, self-pity was a huge theme (remember "Alone Again, Naturally"?). It reached its apotheosis in this mawkish, grandiose piece of shit. The real shame here is that just a few years earlier, Eric Carmen's former band The Raspberries was making some pretty great pop records (e.g., "Go All the Way," "Tonight").
Grand Funk Railroad, "Locomotion" -- these guys were a truly wretched yet inexplicably popular band. Their version of the early rock dance tune classic "Locomotion" was a huge hit. It was also one of the very worst covers of all time. They completely ruin a great pop song.
First Class, "Beach Baby" -- yet another atrocity in a decade that was full of them. What's particularly insidious about this one is that it's such a deeply annoying, impossible-to-get-out-of-your-head earworm. I'm including a link to it below, but be forewarned: click on it at your own risk. Once you've heard it, it will get stuck in a groove in your head and you won't be able to get rid of it.
http://youtu.be/XG8MQ8f4nF4
- This thread reminds me how much I've always loved "Golden Shower of Hits," the medley of 70s-riffic cheese by the punk rock band The Cramps.
http://youtu.be/04KFwsotQgU
- Oh god,I remember the vitriol being unleashed onto the awful Christmas Time song, R221. Even just thinking about it now makes me itchy with hatred. It's the annoyingly head-bobbling melody ...
Anyway, how can anyone hate the terrible song 'you light up my life' too much when it gave us this priceless moment in the movie 'Happiness'?

- Loved Jungle Fever. Used to drive my mom crazy when, as an 11-yr-old, I used to play it out loud.
"Quita ese disco!!!"
- I know someone who ran calling, "Wildfire..."
...and she died.
- Can't believe there were that many crappy 70s songs to keep the thread this long.
Alan O'Day: Undercover Angel

- "Precious and Few" by Climax --- Yuck!
- Precious and Few was a ripoff of Cherish from the 60's
- Not a one-hit wonder, but I LOATHED "Rhinestone Cowboy" by Glen Campbell.
Riding out on a horse in a star-spangled rodeo
- Dan Hill - Sometimes When We Touch
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jPMXzxvdL8
- R208, yes! Lyrics so bad, they're so good! :-D
Note to Charlene: Give me that subtle whoring on yachts and sipping champagne off Greece any day over 9-5 paper pushing in Chicago.
- Not all one-hit wonders, but these songs were dreadful.
The Rubberband Man by The Spinners
Your Mama Don't Dance by Loggins & Messina
Crocodile Rock by Elton John
Crazy Horses by The Osmonds
Harry Hippie by Bobby Womack
Mockingbird by Carly Simon & James Taylor
Rock On by David Essex
Signs by Five Man Accoustical Band
What's Your Name by Lynyrd Skynyrd
Gimme Three Steps by Lynyrd Skynyrd
I'd Love You To Want Me by Lobo
Whenever I Call You 'Friend' by Kenny Loggins
This Is It by Kenny Loggins
Puking as I type
- Sometimes I'll listen to the 70s Music channel on Infinity just to enjoy a jolt to the 70s now and again. Some of those songs I haven't heard *since* the 70s.
I do regret hearing The Night Chicago Died last Saturday and then reading it on this thread. I cannot, *cannot*, get the song out of my head, and I hate it with every fiber of my being. I'm strangely compelled to sing it too.
It's painful.
- Some that I hated:
Thank You For Being A Friend - Andrew Gold
(Sorry, 'Golden Girls' fans, I HATE HATE that song)
Reminiscing - Little River Band
Luckenbach, Texas - Waylon Jennings
Swearin' To God - Frankie Valli
Grease - Frankie Valli
Slip Sliding Away - Paul Simon
I liked Barry Manilow, but he had three songs that were torture for me:
Copacabana, Can't Smile Without You, and Mandy. Ugh!
Ray
- I thought of a few that I dislike from the '70s --- most are not 1-hitters but these suck:
All circa 1979-
Do That To Me One More Time -- Captain & Tennille
You Take My Breath Away -- Rex Smith
Romeo's Tune -- Steve Forbert
Don't Let Go -- Isaac Hayes
Rapper's Delight -- Sugar Hill Gang
and, one I will surely get flamed for:
Don't Stop Til You Get Enough -- Michael Jackson (I really hated this song, still do)
- R239 I won't flame. I thought Michael Jackson was okay and I liked some of his songs, but I too hated 'Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough' (it was shrill and irritating).
Leo
- There was some oddly prophetic music in the 1970's. Someone mentioned Zager and Evan's "In the Year 2525".
They got a lot of the years wrong - but they pretty much predicted where we are going.
LuciferTheLightBringer
- One that I hate for two reasons:
First) It's a terrible song.
Second) It was my birth mother's favorite song that she played constantly in the spring of 1972, when I was 10 years old. At this time, she decided family life wasn't for her and she left my father, my brothers and I to run off with a mechanic and never attempted to contact us again. She ended up with the miserable, lonely life she deserved, the alcoholic cunt!
The song was, ironically, "Happiest Girl In The Whole U.S.A." by Donna Fargo.
When I hear the song, which is thankfully rare, those feelings of abandonment come flooding back. On a positive note, my dad remarried in 1974 and I not only got a great new mom, but two great brothers and two great sisters. So fuck Donna Fargo and fuck my ex-mom who loved her song.
-Jon Lewis
- R241 You got the year wrong. It's 1969.
- Wasn't 'Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough' just his acknowledgment of disco?
- r244, he acknowledged disco a few years before with even worse, Blame It On The Boogie
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txhKOv6-okM
- (You've Blown It All) Sky High
Baby Come Back
and someone mentioned, and I can't believe I ever forgot: Thunder Island
- R245, I had repressed the memory of 'Blame It On The Boogie', that was awful. And yes, miles worse than 'Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough'.
- "Margaritaville" by Jimmy Buffett
"Brandy" by Looking Glass
"Shop Around" by Capt. & Tennille
"Ben" by Michael Jackson
"Magic" by Pilot
"Thank God I'm A Country Boy" by John Denver
"One Tin Soldier" by Coven
I love Chicago, so it pains me to name two of their songs, "If You Leave Me Now" and "Baby What A Big Surprise". Lousy songs.
- Daddy Don't You Walk So Fast - hands down, cheesiest song of the 70s
- [quote]"Shop Around" by Capt. & Tennille
A cover version of The Miracles' 1960 original, written by one William "Smokey" Robinson. Did you think it was a corny whitewashed cover or did you not like the original either?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hjy8HqrcYys
It has a nice beat, you can dance to it, and The Miracles looked cool as shit
- The 70s channels on iTunes play a lot of these.
I love a lot of 70s music but there's always some real stinkers in the mix (you bitches have done a stellar job of listing them).
- R250 It was a corny whitewashed cover. The orignal was okay.
R248
- It's 1980, so it tehnically doesn't qualify, but it surely belongs amongst THE all time cheesiest:
"Lady" by Kenny Rogers.
ANYTHING Kenny Rogers, actually.
- Don't Pull Your Love - Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds
Couldn't Get It Right - Climax Blues Band
Come And Get Your Love - Redbone
But, the worst has already been named a few times. I just have to chime in and agree that "Playground In My Mind" is THE worst song of the '70s and a contender for the worst song of all-time. Painful.
- Then I agree, r248. They had all the soul of Pat/Debbie Boone
r250
- That's very much how I feel about The Carpenters's version of "Please, Mr. Postman". Sledgehammer twinkly cute with none of the soul of the Marvelettes original.
- To make sure that the 70s finished with a full decade of crappy songs, here's the last number 1 song of the 70s:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFldGN3bXBU
Casey's Top 40
- Oooh, I could write a whole screenplay around R242's post including that creepy song on soundtrack. Well-written and I could feel the pain and anger -- and everything else that song represented. Glad it had a happy ending though.
- “Crocodile Rock,” Elton John.
Admit it – your finger leaps for the car-stereo button as soon as you hear the first couple notes in that cheeseball organ arpeggio. I usually get there before the organ even starts in, no later than the second piano chord that precedes it. Even if I allow the first verse to play, I’m long gone before that first, piercing “Laaaaaaaa…” And even if I let that go, I spend the next, oh, 48 hours chuckling about how Elton and Bernie repeatedly condense the world “crocodile” to “crile.” Meanwhile, me and Susie have so much fun, holding hands and skimming… OUT! GET OUT OF MY HEAD, DAMNED HOOK! Oh, Elton, you got me again, you fucking bastard. I hate “Island Girl,” too.
- Don't you hate it when you hear a song you hate on the radio--you change the button but continue to sing it while you scan, then you come around again and find you're right on time?
- I know it's a beloved song by most, but I always hated "Lady Marmalade" by Labelle. Probably a mortal sin on DataLounge, but that song grated on my last nerve.
Voulez-vous coucher avec moi ce soir
- 'FOX ON THE RUN' BY SWEET. I SHOULD HATE IT, BUT IT'S A GUILTY PLEASURE.
The Foxy Fox on the Run
- I hate 'Crocodile Rock' too. That was one of Elton's shittiest (during his most brilliant period). I love most of his work from that period, but that one just sucks.
- Ozark Mountain Daredevils - "Jackie BLEW"
Not One Hit Wonders, Still bad.
The Eagles - "Best of My Love"
The Eagles - "New Kid In Town"
Orleans - "Still The One"
Dr. Hook - "Only 16"
Dr. Hook - "Sharing The Night Together"
Dr. Hook - "When You're In Love With A Beautiful Woman"
- I think Jackie Blue is a great record - very eerie and atmospheric.
All in all, I think 70s Top 40 music holds up fairly well, particularly against say, 80s Top 40.(not to say that every decade didn't have its stinkers)
- "Amie" by Pure Prairie League
"Color My World" by Chicago (Depressing)
"Silly Love Songs" - McCartney & Wings
"Chick-A-Boom (Don't Ya Jes' Love It)" by Daddy Dewdrop
"Too Much, Too Little, Too Late" by Johnny Mathis & Deniece Williams
"Native New Yorker" by Odyssey
"She Believes In Me" by Kenny Rogers
"Lucille" by Kenny Rogers
"Gonna Fly Now (Theme From Rocky)" by Bill Conti
"You Don't Bring Me Flowers" - Barbra Streisand and Neil Diamond (Sorry, Barbophiles)
"Greased Lightning" by John "Bathhouse Barbarino" Travolta
"Don't Cry Out Loud" by Melissa Manchester
J.B.
- Joe Cocker - "You Are So Beautiful". Sledgehammer-to-the-radio-time.
- Circa 1972, my older sister (she was 12, I was 10) had a bubblegummy 45 called "Happiness Train" by a group called The Sugar Bears. It was the most horrible thing. It was so lame. She had other 45s but that was the one that was played constantly. I haven't heard the thing in 40 years, but I'll never forget it. My favorite 45 back then was "Go All The Way: by The Raspberries (that was a cool one).
Barrett
- "BROTHER LOUIE" by Stories (1973)
YUCK!
- R267 That song was cringe-worthy.
- Liked Chicago. HATED Colour My World.
- How did people here get such ideologically resentful taste in music? Sure, a few things listed are bad, but most of it is just stuff that is different, quirky, or out of the ordinary. In other words, interesting. I wish I hadn't missed the 70s. An entire decade free of songs "featuring" some ignorant talentless rapper? Sounds like heaven.
- Video Killed The Radio Star by Buggles... Awful.
R272 We're just having fun. As much as some of these songs got on my nerves back in the day, I would rather hear them than the 'rappers' you mentioned and all of the auto-tuned robots. There is still good music today, but so much of it is neutered by over-production and autotuning. I agree with you. I was there in the 70s and I'm thankful I experienced it. The 70s had a wealth of great music from Zeppelin to Bee Gees to ABBA to Willie Nelson to Donna Summer to Black Sabbath to Chic to The Ramones to KC & The Sunshine Band, etc. It was awesome. I'll take "The Night Chicago Died" (as bad as it was) over "Gangnam Style" or Bieber's "Baby" any day.
SD
- Maybe these songs aren't considered cheesy but I hate them:
Sir Duke/You Are The Sunshine of My Life - Stevie Wonder
Got To Give It Up - Marvin Gaye. I love him but that song, ugh.
Honky Tonk Women - Rolling Stones
We're All Alone - Rita Coolidge
Sultans of Swing - Dire Straits
Maggie May - Rod Stewart
Sometimes When We Touch - Dan Hill
Carpenters - Top of the World, I like a few of their songs, not this one.
Pablo Cruise - What You Gonna Do?
Eres Tu - Mocedades
Crocodile Rock - Elton John, one of the worst songs EVER.
- R234, that video has completely changed my view of that song. Not that I ever liked it, but seeing that it was sung by a young guy, an apparently homeless neanderthal, blows my mind. And the strange backing group! With Chris Farley on drums and someone who was surely the inspiration for Dan Pussey (see link) on the piano ... I'll never forget it.

Yeah Barrett you bitch about it, but here it is and you'll be right back in 1972 and you'll have a sudden desire to call your sister. (it is bad though, ENJOY!)
http://www.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3D7RnJ_HX8Xgs
- Oh God "Eres Tu"!!
- R276, The Happiness Train sounds like it should be a theme song to some sit-com...
- R276 I just screamed and ran through a plate glass window on the tenth floor of my office building to escape that monstrocity. Thank you LOL. That brought back so many memories. I am very close to my sis to this day and I probably will call her to remind her of that song and to tell her that it's on YouTube (she's probably forgotten the song, though I never will). It's just as putrid as I remember, but at least I can look back on it and laugh my ass off.

- Sunshine Day and Keep On Dancing by the Brady Bunch Kids
- Yes, OP, it's just you who noticed this. You're the only one in the universe to come up with this notion. You're very, very special.
- The Brady Kids never had any top 40 singles though r280, none of their singles charted at all. Their Christmas album was top 10 however, and they were a popular live act (like at malls.) The kids thought they were popular enough to ask for more money for the 6th season, which is why the show got cancelled, and without the show their music act fizzled too. Some of the songs must've been featured on the show, but they weren't on the radio, so they don't apply here.
- R282 Thank God that shit didn't get played on radio. A.M. radio was bad enough without those Brady assholes.
- They weren't crappy they were craptastic!
- Since we've moved to 70s TV stars singing:
Laverne & Shirley Sing:

- Yeah, "Playground In My Mind" kinda rules this thread. It is easily the one song on this thread that has absolutely no redeeming qualities.
EVERYBODY SING!!!!
When this old world gets me down
And there's no love to be found
I close my eyes and soon I find
I'm in a playground in my mind
Where the children laugh and the children play
And we sing a song all day
"My name is Michael, I got a nickel
I got a nickel, shiny and new
I'm gonna buy me all kinds of candy
That's what I'm gonna do"
See the little children
Living in a world that I left behind
Happy little children
In the playground in my mind
Oh the wonders that I find
In the playground in my mind
In a world that used to be
Close your eyes and follow me
Where the children laugh and the children play
And we sing a song all day
"My girl is Cindy
When we get married, we're gonna have a baby or two. We're gonna let them visit their grandma. That's what we're gonna do"
"My name is Cindy
When we get married, were gonna have a baby or two. We're gonna let them vist their grandma
That's what we're gonna do"
See the little children
See how they're playing so happy
In the playround in my mind
Ba ba ba ba ba ba ba
La la la la la la la
(God, even the lyrics are cheesy. Clint Holmes should have received a life sentence of hard labor in Sing-Sing for this atrocity. Even at 8 years old I hated this mother fucker of a song)
Pete Townshend, cruising the playground
- ooooh, those lyrics, stop, stop... so awful I don't want it in my head.
With "Candy Man" by Sammy Davis, Jr. as runner-up. though I hate to admit it came from one of my favorite movies. I still fast forward past it, though, even there.
- P.S. Instead, Clint Holmes went on to the be the announcer for Joan Rivers' short-lived show after she left/fucked over Carson. So maybe THAT was his sentence.
- I like a lot of the Carpenters' music, but "Top Of the World" grates on my last nerve.
- My favourite - no, really...

Is he taking the piss? Yes!!!
- r281 - I was about to disect your post. Then just thought "fuck off, you saddo, and let the rest of us have fun"
And then thought of many threads that simple reply would have worked...
- Do come along, r289

Occupants of interplanetary craft calling Karen - eat something.
- I laughed while reading this thread. I was born in 1990. Most of these songs are in my mom's old vinyl collection from back in the day. My dad's albums leaned more toward hard rock and metal of that 70s era. I grew up hearing many of these songs. You guys think your generation had shitty songs? The 90's and beyond were worse. My generation had Hanson, The Spice Girls, Aqua, Lou Bega, Puff Daddy/P. Diddy, Kid Rock, etc. Consider Yourself lucky.
Arick
- I have honestly never heard of "Playground in My Mind."
Never heard it on the radio or anywhere else for that matter!
- Omg, I LOVE "Playground in my Mind"...how can you not like it?
- I'm not going to read the hundreds of posts in this thread, I just want to make sure that 1971's cannibal-themed "Timothy" is included. (My apologies if it's been mentioned already.)
Trapped in a mine that had caved in
And everyone knows the only ones left
Was Joe and me and Tim
When they broke through to pull us free
The only ones left to tell the tale
Was Joe and me
Timothy, Timothy, where on earth did you go?
Timothy, Timothy, God why don't I know?
Hungry as hell no food to eat
And Joe said that he would sell his soul
For just a piece of meat
Water enough to drink for two
And Joe said to me, "I'll take a swig
And then there's some for you."
Timothy, Timothy, Joe was looking at you
Timothy, Timothy, God what did we do?
I must have blacked out just around then
'Cause the very next thing that I could see
Was the light of the day again
My stomach was full as it could be
And nobody ever got around
To finding Timothy
Timothy, Timothy, where on earth did you go?
Timothy, Timothy, God why don't I know?
Timothy...

- [quote] Wasn't 'Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough' just his acknowledgment of disco?
No, you all are forgetting "Dancing Machine", 1974, very early disco. A year later it was rewritten for the Jackson clones The Sylvers as Boogie Fever.
{quote] he acknowledged disco a few years before with even worse, Blame It On The Boogie
"Blame It" was forced on the Jacksons by their record company. They didn't write it, the same album featured the better hit "Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground)" which they did write. And most critics like "Don't Stop" so anyone who hates is pretty much in the minority. Yes it's disco, so what? Just as with Madonna, disco was Michael's biggest influence.
- I had no idea that Minne Ripperton was dead, R44, or that she was Mz. Rudolph's mother.
- "Sweet & Innocent" by Donny Osmond. Horrific. My sister drove me crazy with it.
Meg
- r276, wasn't that one of those records you cut out of the back of a Sugar Smacks box?
I know that's where we got our copy of Sugar Sugar! by the Archies.

- "Billy, Don't be a Hero" was on the radio every 2 minutes.
I'd forgotten how horrible this was.

- OK, I tried to at least scan this whole thread before mentioning this but no "The Nights The Lights Went Out In Georgia" by Viki Lawrence of The Carol Burnett Show?? Really?
It was a time of transition, OP. AM Top 40 to FM stereo. "Story" songs like Ode To Billy Joe to bubblegum pop. And then of course 30 minute album sides while you could smoke your weed while the DJ went out and smoke theirs.
And then the beginnings of disco too.
It was all over the board. You just had to know where to find your own tastes.
- Remember, Billy Joe threw himself off the Tallahachee Bridge because he was gay... GAY!!!!!
at least according to the movie with Robby Benson.
- Night The Lights Went Out was originally written for Cher who would've sung it much better than Vicki Lawrence. Vicki only recorded it because Sonny stupidly turned it down (without Cher's knowledge, she was furious when she found out) and it was written by Vicki's husband. He needed someone to sing it. Vicki's only musical aspiration was to be a backup singer, she does make a lame lead vocalist. But the song is still very catchy, it just would've been better with Cher. I'm surprised Cher has never recorded her own version, or sung it live.
- Loved this song as a little budding homo:

- Here are some more songs to add to the list. God damn, there are still lots more songs to draw from.
[bold]Jimmy Loves Mary Anne - Looking Glass[/bold]
//schmaltzy crap song, goes without saying//
[bold]You Are the Woman - Firefall[/bold]
//dorky song for sure, pleasant melody, not too too overly syrupy//
[bold]Telephone Line - ELO[/bold]
//cheesy, gets a thumbs up though for its elegant lamentation//
[bold]Last Night I Didn't Get to Sleep - 5th Dimension[/bold]
//lovely, but most definitely falls into the cheesy category//
[bold]B.J. THOMAS - Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song[/bold]
//another done square song even for 70s nerd tastes//
[bold]Nadia's Theme (also Young and the Restless Theme) - Barry Devorzan[/bold]
plus
[bold]Feels So Good - Chuck Mangione[/bold]
//horridly coma inducing instrumentals//
[bold]Disco Star Wars Theme - Mecco[/bold]
//kooky but lame and schlocky nonetheless//
[bold]Mohamed Ali (The Black Super Man) - Billy Ze Kick[/bold]
//just another 1974 novelty bubblegum hit//
[bold]Jimmy and the Tough Kids - Louise Goffin[/bold]
//Carole Kings kid caterwauling from '78 (thankfully not even on You Tube) my sister bought this record//
[bold]It's So Nice To Be With You - Gallery[/bold]
//undeniable cheesy but who cares? good song//
[bold]Rocky - Austin Roberts[/bold]
//another corny maudlin death/love song from '74-'75
[bold]Your in My Heart - Rod Stewart[/bold]
//You're an essay in glamour please pardon the grammar, (ooooo-kay...)//
- R296, I totally forgot about that song! I would hear it on WLS-AM over my little transitor radio when I was a little kid and it would terrify the hell out of me.
"Riders on the Storm", "Mama Told Me Not To Come", "One is the Loneliest Number", "I'm Not in Love", and "In the Year 2525" scared little me too.
Yeah, I know, Mary!
