EGOT = Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony
If an entertainer EGOTs, they have the distinction of being only one of a handful of people who've won the most prestigious awards that exist for actors/musicians.
It should be OGET
I agree, OP.
It should be OTEG. Grammys are almost worthless.
Why doesn't Liza qualify? She's got all those awards.
Barbra doesn't qualify, and no one other than her diehard fans really counts her as qualifying.
Of course Barbra qualifies, she has the goddam award doesn't she?
When you get a Tony award as 'Star of the Decade' then we'll talk OP.
Barbra and Liza were each given "special" Tony awards, outside of the competitive awards, therefore they didn't "win" an award.
However they do belong to the EGOT R.I.P. club.
Whoopi just gave money to Throughly Modern Millie that shouldn't count either.
Barbra lost to Carol Channing and Phyllis somebody or other....can you imagine?
R11. Liza Minnelli has won three Tony Awards: 1965, 1974. 1978. And her 2009 Broadway show won for Best Special Theatrical Event.
And in 1973, Liza won Harvard University's Hasty Pudding Woman of the Year.
I suppose I should do one of those Spoken Word things to get the Grammy....but I do so dread the thought of attending the Tony Awards and having to sit though some shtick by Nathan Lane. That's why I usually do my plays in the park.

Phyllis Newman. She was on lots of things in the 60s when I was a kid. Really over-bearing personality. Even when I was young, I sensed there was something about her that I couldn't stand. She always tried WAY too hard.
