I never thought KC was gay but he was so cute in the 70's - I loved watching him on American Bandstand or Soul Train - he always had that big smile and was so enthusiastic.
We were ALL so young and sexy in 1972.
Brain Tumored Old Cigarette Smoker
Must've been something I read on-line, so no sooner than about 2000. Although the band's Behind The Music special detailed how close he was with that Fitch guy. And that he went into a severe depression after they split. Before hearing the rumors, I think I might've guessed they were more than friends from that BTM special.
Used to live in his neighbourhood. Gay as Ricky Martin.
I didn't know he was gay
Saw him with his dick out an adult theater.
At least I thought it was him (it was dark, I'm nearsighted).
Do tell! Nice cock?
[quote]At what point did you realize he was queer?
Right after Dick Clark said "Please welcome...."
That outfit that the mature K C is wearing does NOTHING for him, which I think is a lot of the problem.
I love KC and his music which I grew up with. I also didn't know he was gay at the time, but have heard he is since.
I wish the skintight jeans of the 70s would make a comeback, that was such a hot look.
He never came out, did he? How do we know he's gay (I had a sneaking suspicion, but still...)
No he never came out, and it's doubtful he ever will. I've always heard he's a Republican, and if that's true he probably doesn't even approve of out and proud types. Just another sad closet-case.
r26, well he was always rumored to be partnered with his musical partner, co-founder of the band. Somebody Fitch, I believe is the name. And that guy got outed by being arrested for sex with a male minor. So that part of the rumor is confirmed, Fitch is gay. Meanwhile KC has never been linked with any women. It doesn't take Einstein to do that math.
I saw him a couple of years ago in a private Las vegas Concert. So sad. He could barely move, I'm guessing because of age or drugs, so he kind of sat behind his piano, while a bunch of solid gold dancer types did all the work.
He was soaked in flop sweat before the first song was halfway through.
My ticket entitled me to a backstage meet up, but I was told at the last minute that he was unavailable. Bartender told me that usually means drunk/coked out etc.
You're onto something, R2.
He was one of the ones interviewed in that Secret Disco Revolution documentary and you would never know unless you were told. He just came across like a typical bloated old straight guy, he reminded me a lot of Albert Brooks.
So that's why he hasn't come out, he doesn't have to in the opposite way Richard Simmons doesn't have to. Shame as he was hot and talented, would be great to claim him.
He always pinged for me. I was a kid in the mid-70s and thought he was cute back then (he got fug quickly though). I saw him on The Midnight Special one night and I just knew he was family. I met him in the early '80s (he was drunk or something) and he was really "out there." By that time, he was becoming kind of homely and I wouldn't have hit it even if I'd had a chance. Major flamer.
He's privately openly gay and publicly closeted. He stays publicly closeted to appease his straight soccer mom and great granny fans. Everyone in Miami knew about KC and Fitch being lovers as far back as 1973/74 (before they hit the big time). Most of the music industry was aware of it. I found out from a female singer who was hugely popular in the '70s who has been a lifelong friend of mine. She said it was an open secret in the music biz.

Helen Reddy? I want to meet her.
Honey ... any man in the 70s who was singing about shaking one's BOOTY has to be questioned...
Who's the 70s lez? Helen Reddy? Olivia Newton John? Linda Ronstadt? Dolly Parton?
Years ago, somebody posted on DL about chatting with him online. It may have been an M4M AOL chatroom, and the poster indicated that KC was quite open about his identity.
