Why does everyone like Johnny Depp so much?

I've seen him act. He's nothing more than a mediocrity.

• Don't agree at all, you must be in a coma.

• I used to like him quite a bit. Now he seems to be going through the motions.

• OP, I don't get it either. He makes Keanu Reeves look like an amazing actor.

• I disagree. Unlike George Clooney or Brad Pitt who are basically playing themselves in almost every film, Johnny Depp loses himself in his role. He transform into whatever character he's playing. Johnny is a real actor and Brad is just Hollywood.

• Brad and Johnny are giant control freaks. They live outside of the USA. Madonna is a goofball compared to those two.

• Johnny was very good in Blow.

• He's always surrounded himself with the right people.

• Like OP, I have no idea.

• He plays the same variation of the "wacky" character. I don't get or like his acting.

• His latest films are horrible. The pirate movies, The Tourist, Dark Shadows... one turd after the other.

• Charismatic but dull.

• 10 years ago, he was hot. He was more beautiful and a lot cooler than his acting peers like Brad Pitt, Clooney, etc. I liked his earlier films because he took risks but alas, with his 5th POTC film to be made, he's definitely sold out.

• What R4 said. I forget I am watching Johnny Depp because he becomes that character.

• I loved him before he went Disney on us. Now he's just doing it for the paycheck and that's against the indie image/cachet that made him "Johnny Depp". But just as Johnny has sold out, so has his mentor, Tim Burton.

• He isn't an actor. He's a fantasy figure. A fantasy friend - like Jennifer Aniston.

• I'm sick to death of him and his "too hip to bathe" look. He's at least 30 years too old for it, not that there's ever a good age for it anyway.

• Winona was always far more interesting.

• Everyone does not like him, I detest him.
