I went to the bar at the one near me once (I'm a miles junkie and it was part of an airline deal promo thing), astounded that the bartender refused to make a Tom Collins for me "because I don't know how".

Oh, it's that fondue place. I ate at the one in Seattle and hated it.
I was remembering the real Melting Pot, the one that was in Los Angeles.
That was a cool place, with a great outdoor patio. I think it was on Robertson, but can't really remember now.
Afterwards, your clothes will stink.
I've experienced the same thing many times, R9 . My dad and I used to drink them during the summer when we'd spend some time together on the Cape.
Then, about ten years ago,the twinky bartenders would look at me like deer caught in the headlights when I would order them. My Dad would start ranting about "kids behind the bar" and "Who the hell doesn't know how to make a Tom Collins?"
My Dad was in his last, crusty years by then. He was right about the Tom Collins, though. I miss him and a great Tom Collins on a hot summer day.
My grandmother used to serve me Collins mix as a soda pop from her 1 Quart A&P brand bottle, R16.
I love Collins mix! It's delicious as soda! My first boyfriend loved Vodka Collins....That was 30 years ago now. I rarely have ordered one since.

$350+ for a party of six, and DIY vegetable grease-soaked bits on sticks. Awful. Very nice and enthusiastic staff, however.

The Melting Pot still exists? In the 1970s, didn't there used to be one in every shopping mall? Am I thinking of the same place? It seems like something from another time like the clothing store Back Street.
Melting Pot is my favorite place. I go there every few months. It's a bit pricey, but well worth it for the ambiance.
Overpriced for the food. I really wish we had a crepe restaurant where I am. I used to love a place called The Magic Pan but that was up North and don't even know if they still exist.

Well R26 fondue is also a fad from the seventies. I guess it got a resurgence. I remember my mother having fondue dinner parties in the seventies. She'd also wear a type of hostess outfit with long flowing pants or a long peasant style dress.
