Kangaroos stampede golf tournament

IT'S the incredible moment that stopped play at the Australian's Women's Open golf tournament, and served to reinforce the view about kangaroos and our fair nation. But it should come as no surprise that kangaroos have invaded the fairways of Royal Canberra. Kangaroos are often spotted in large numbers on Canberra's golf courses for a really obvious reason: green grass. The national capital is dry in a typical summer and by February there is not much to eat for the large mobs of eastern greys that frequent the grasslands. The solution? The grass is always greener on the other side of the clubhouse. In the crippling drought of the 2000s, so many kangaroos invaded the watered lawns and parks of Canberra, that they had to be culled because they posed a threat to motorists. It is unclear whether a golfer is given a mulligan (a free shot) for a ball which lands in a joey's pouch.
