Can you find a decent 1 bedroom apartment in Manhattan for between $1500 - $2000 per month?

It doesn't have to be a nice, nice neighborhood, but at the same time I don't want to get raped or jacked every time I take out the trash.

• Manhattan is safe in about 95% of its neighborhoods these days, OP. Here's a CL search link for you. There are many 1 BR apts all over Manhattan within that range.

• You can easily get a one-bedroom on the UES for $2000. It'll be in a walk-up, but it'll be a decent size.

• Try, NJ, MASS or Conn, OP?

• Try Washington Heights/Inwood. Some parts are not so nice but there are decent spots where you can find a 1-bd for that price range.

• Certainly not in Manhattan Proper (below 86th Street on the west and east sides).

• Washington Heights/Inwood? You might as well live in fucking Westchester or Connecticut.

• Though rarely available for rent, studios in my Midtown East co-op go for over $2000/month.

• Street easy.com is a good source of info. We found 847 listings between $1,000 and $2,000 with 1 bedroom Median price: $1,600     Median size: 700 ft²     Median price per ft²: $26

• I don't mean to hijack this thread, but is there a good source for finding a short-term (like 30 days) furnished rental? I've always visited Manhattan in one-week trips; now that I'm retired I'd like to stay for a whole month some time.
