Canada gives Anti-Gay Country Uganda Half-Million Dollars in foreign aid
In Uganada both male and female homosexual activity is illegal. Under the Penal Code, "carnal knowledge against the order of nature" between two males carries a potential penalty of life imprisonment.
Despite that the Canadian government is investing half-million dollars in foreign aid to Uganda to build wells.
The group building the wells is an anti-gay Christian organization.
- Backup, please.
- Uganada? You got nada.
- I don't think you understand what the word investing means.
- I do
- Oh please.... Canada gives half a million dollars to an anti-gay country and an American gay is moralizing?
How many BILLIONS does the US give to Islamic countries where homosexuality is illegal?
- And? Most countries receiving foreign aid are anti-gay.
- R5 what makes you think the OP is American?
Posts are started by people all over the world.
- R6 in Uganda you can get executed if you are gay
- How many billions has "the land of the brave and the free" pumped into shitholes like Saudi Arabia and Pakistan?
- Pakistan has the death penalty for gay sex on the books as well, r8. Do you how much money it receives from the US every year?
- That's not the point. Uganda is of no strategic benefit to Canada. It can't be seen as other than right-wing meddling.
- Indeed, if Canada wants to "play" in Africa, it would do better to suck up to the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
- Why? Because Uganda can't win that war.
- OK I guess people feel that it is okay for the US and Canada and other countries to give money to other countries with anti-gay policies.
Posters @ DL feels it is okay.
- OP = epic fail
America sends them truckloads of money too, dumbass.
- Does anyone REALLY care what Canada does? Of course they're awful people. But, it's Canada. They're cold, they're bitter, they have nothing nice to say to or about any Americans. Who the fuck cares what they do? Nobody else does.
- Like I said R15
If you guys think it is okay for the US and Canada to give money to countries with anti-gay policies, fine.
Guess DL posters feel that is fine.
Yes this post has been an epic failure on DL.
- [quote]Uganda is of no strategic benefit to Canada.
This is why you think Western countries give aid to countries, only so they can get something out of it? Honey, Westerners feel a responsibility for the rest of the impoverished world. You're a sick sociopath.
[quote]It can't be seen as other than right-wing meddling.
Ironically, your comments/ideas are Right-wing.
- Does anyone REALLY care what America does? Of course they're awful people. But, it's America. They're cold, they're bitter, they have nothing nice to say to or about any Canadians. Who the fuck cares what they do? Nobody else does.

You're a simpleton. A child. You're exactly what is wrong in the US. People like you have no critical thinking skills, and demand that everything be dumbed down to your level.
- r17, the problem people have with this post is that it singles out a particular incident as if it it were in any way out of the ordinary - which it isn't at all.
- [quote][R5] what makes you think the OP is American?
So now we're using sock puppetry? Troll-dar is not your friend, OP/r7. Time to leave DL before webbie either deletes you or we run you the hell out of here ourselves. Save your $18.
- They are building wells with this money not fucking gold mines. No matter how anti-gay a country is I cannot begrudge them getting clean drinking water. Lots of children will benefit from this.
- “This is absolutely appalling that this is happening,” In Uganda, of all countries, to be funding them, is just an unbelievably bad decision.”
-Metropolitan Community Church pastor Brent Hawkes.
“Canada must send a very clear message that we are watching and we don’t want any more tragedy to happen in Uganda to gay people, like the brutal murder of David Kato,”
-MP Olivia Chow says, recalling the well-known Ugandan gay activist who was murdered in 2011.
According to R20 these two people quoted above are 'simpleton's'
- I agree with R3. You have not clue what the word investing means.
- Well, it's the Harper government, and he likes to follow the Republican fundamentalist playbook.
- Here is a letter to the editor. According to R20 her views are also of a 'simpleton' (his word)
I was amazed to that the federal government had pledged over half a million dollars in funding to the evangelical Crossroads Christian Communications group to carry out work in Uganda, a country planning on outlawing homosexuality and implementing draconian penalties for “offenders.” Like Uganda, Crossroads Christian Communications also condemn homosexuality as sinful, punishable behaviour, equating homosexuality and lesbianism to deviant mental disorders such as pedophilia and bestiality.
Crossroads Christian Communications is certainly entitled to its interpretation of the scriptures, but as a Christian, I find their views appalling and reprehensible.
I agree with Steve Foster, president of the Quebec LGBT Council, that funding to any groups who promote such discriminatory and dangerous views should be stopped.

- And according to R20 this person is also a 'simpleton'
Steve Foster, president of the Quebec LGBT Council, said the federal government should stop funding groups like Crossroads.
"It's unacceptable that the government would accept that kind of organization as an international-co-operation organization," Foster said.
"Taxpayers' money should not be used to finance religious groups working abroad, who furthermore contribute to the creation of discriminatory — even inhumane and dangerous — policy."
Foster calls it a "dangerous" shift from the government toward using religious groups to perform international development work.

- Please remember that it was white Christian missionaries who brought this violent homophobia to Africa.

- Strange that straight people find giving money to Anti-gay Uganda appalling. But gay guys at DL are okay with it.
- Canada gives everyone money
Canada doesn't really GAF since gay marriage is actually legal here. Not just a civil union, or domestic partnership, or other cop-out term (that still makes gays less than equal), but a legal recognition of a marriage between 2 individuals, regardless of gender (actual words used by the Supreme Court of Canada, btw)
Tbh Harper has no idea what he's doing, he probably thinks its all going directly into charity or something
- Actually R31 funding has increased to Christian organizations doing work overseas, while other organizations doing the same work have been cut off.
A study by the Canadian Research Institute on Humanitarian Crisis and Aid that shows funding for religious non-government organizations increased 42 percent between 2005 and 2010. Secular groups saw an increase of five percent.
- In a couple of years Canada will be known as Harperistan
