I am just tired of this over-exposed woman. Every time she screeches out a song she wins some award. Every time she opens her mouth to talk I feel embarrassed for her. She has no class or finesse.
I think part of her appeal is that she's morbidly obese and finally every fatty out there has a "role model" who is "making it in a thin woman's world". Quite frankly I'd much rather see and listen to the much talented Beth Ditto.
She didn't deserve pop vocal winner for that live song. I'm sick of her pretending to be shocked every time she wins an award. That fat ass will win an Oscar later this month for that piece of shit Bond theme and act flabbergasted. Mark my words.
Why are Americans so easily impressed with British singers? She's a tenth rate Dusty Springfield, at best.
Love her. She's talented, down to earth, adorable. A real breath of fresh air.
Soo bored of her. It's not her fault, but the way radio stations have played every damn song of hers ad nauseum has made me sick of her.
Yet another thread in which DLers prove how threatened thy are by suddessful women.
[quote]Amy Winehouse's voice and vocalizations convey a particular (individual), sexual and ethnic identification with black pop--as the expressive means to work out her neuroses in a pop idiom. Britney Spears' voice and tone is a definitive sign--a Myth of a particular modern girl. Consequently, even when used sparsely, as a piece of an expensive sound, it always contains the song within the Myth of Britney. Adele is all affectation. Amy and Britney bring humanity to decadent reality. Adele is all decadence. Her psychology is worked out at the buffet.
Psychotic ramblings, R6.
[quote]I am just tired of this over-exposed woman. Every time she screeches out a song she wins some award. Every time she opens her mouth to talk I feel embarrassed for her.
I agree. Same thing with Beyonce. It's like the industry and the media just randomly picks certain people to ass kiss and tries to shove them in our faces to the point where we can't stand them. There's no better way to turn people off then overexposure.
What a cunt Adele is. A fat cunt. A rich cunt. A cunt in a hideous dress. A successful cunt. A cunt song writer. A cunt Grammy Winner. A cunt Academy Award nominee. A cunt in a flowered dress. A cunt with a baby. What can we do to destroy this successful cunt.
No one wants to just stop watching, listening to or commenting on this cunt until we make her the biggest cunt in the world
I thought the cunt that was as has been was the cunt Justin Timberlake. There that cunt Timberlake was last night performing at the Grammy's and everyone was all excited about this has been cunts new music.
We had determined that this cunt was finished. What went wrong here?
Ugh, Timberlake. Hate him. Adele COULDN'T be as horrible as him.
I love Adele songs, just can't stand her singing them
Alison Moyet did it better.
LOL! So basically you just like the lyrics to her songs? I think Adele should take a long break after the Oscars. Overexposure is a career killer.
OP I could understand your comments about over exposure if they were directed at someone like Cheryl Cole a woman of absolutely no talent whatsoever, who has only got where she is because of clever marketing. As for Adele I have no problem with some one as talent as her getting lots of exposure.
@ R1 Adele's vocal is the only good thing about Skyfall. The BAFTA'a were embarressing last night - complete British bias towards Bond.
I agree with R 3 and R 5.
I am an Adele fan because of her talent and the fact that she is genuine and down to earth.
R6, I think you mean Amy's identification with music of black origin was sexual and cultural. It wasn't ethnic as she was a Jewish girl. But London and her grandmother's heritage in the jazz scene were big influences.
She subverted the sounds of the '60s girl groups to author her own biography; explicit in her relations with men, her passion, hurt and the sublime pain of being in love.
R14 and can STILL do it better!!
I like that Adele seems down to earth and is not fazed by her success.
Timberlake needs to take a seat. The song isn't even doing that well on the charts.
When Chris Brown refused to stand for Frank Ocean's win last night, Adele went proper Sarf London on his conceited ass:
Better not watch The Oscars OP, your head will explode. On second thought, tune in Dear.
I much prefer Adele's reactions than that retarded Taylor Swifty's O face when she wins.
Loved her until she began opening her mouth to speak and nothing but garbage came out.
Obese women everywhere find her inspiring, which I suppose is good for them. But Adele could have been universally loved had she just attempted to have a little grace and class. She doesn't of course so she's destined for Susan Boyle style fame.
Unfortunately she's about as good as it gets today.
If you really listen to her and compare her with the greats from the past, it's a sloppy thin voice, but she makes it work.
Hear, hear, R22.
You bitter old queens probably think Alicia Keys is better. Adele is one of the best singers to come a long in eons. Yeah, she's not perfect, duh.
Are any of you Rex Reed?
She was born and raised in a summer haze bound the surprise of her glory days
I don't mind Adele, I just think she is overrated. I love Esperanza Spaulding and think she is head and shoulders over other contemporary female singers.
What? No crazed, obsessed Adele troll like the Janbot who I believe is a straight, fat chick very much in the style of the Twitards.
Add me to the list of haters! She needs to lose weight and go away.
The hillbilly girls love her- so she stays. She speaks for them and their tragic romances with mean boys who hump them and dump them.
They're certain he's out there somewhere, looking out a rain-spattered window, regretting that he treated her so bad, and wondering, too 'what could have been?'.
Stop talking about Bots. Seriously, the Britney thread you couldn't help yourself & I'm sick of it.
What Britney thread R33?
Haters will be haters. She wins awards because her singing is spectacular. There's nothing wrong with that.
Are you jealous, OP. Can you stand no-talent people like Kylie Minogue and Nicki Minoji? Every time they open their mouths, there isn't a word, understandably.
I have nothing terribly unpleasant to say about her, or her size. She seems pleasant enough.
But I am underwhelmed by her voice and by Duffy, too. Amy Winehouse, for all of her issues, was the only one of these new soul tinged Dusty Springfield wannabes that had something going on underneath that made it compelling, and a voice to match.
We are in a world of butterscotch mediocrity. Too much of our music and our art is like a piece from Restoration Hardware - it may look classic and soulful, but it's really manufactured and artificial.
[quote]The hillbilly girls love her- so she stays.
What the hell? I'd say Kelly Clarkson has the hillbilly girl demographic all sewn up, so to speak.
I find her okay not special, but I think a lot of her appeal is the same dynamic that worked for Susan Boyle--a nonthreatening woman who "looks like" a lot of her fans, thus her appeal.
Rihanna is so beautiful. What the fuck is she doing back with that tragic person?
[quote] troll like the Janbot who I believe is a straight, fat chick very much in the style of the Twitards.
I agree r30, the Janbot was trolldar'd as a rabid Chick-Fil-A defender. So Janbot is likely straight, or possibly a self-loather.
I liked her when I first heard her. Now they play her so much that I change the station the minute she comes on. She has no range and her voice grates on me. I think she has a powerful voice, but she's very one note.
I can't stand that no-talent fuck Chris Brown, but seriously, why the standing ovation for Frank Ocean?
Rihanna looked like she was balding. I don't like that receding hairline look.
I know Adele recently had a baby but frankly I was shocked at how HUGE she was.
Kelly Clarkson also looked like she packed on the pounds.
Lena Dunham looked trashy.
Despite all that, I find the Grammys more "real" than the movie and TV awards show, where all the women look like they are starving and they are over-botoxed and over injected with fillers.
Some of you have a psychotic deep hatred for fat people. It's disturbing.
I love her and would take her with me for a night out beyond the confines of Vauxhall when I need someone to cut a bitch if I got into trouble.
In the link by [r20] the label the manufacturer attaches to the sleeve on a new suit hasn't been removed. I'm sure he thinks he's stylin' enough to "style" himself,by rock in' his designer on his sleeve.
Having a ton of money can't make someone a class act!
Hire a fucking stylist !
R29, I love Esperanza too. She's extremely talented.
I think she's tremendous.
Bitch just got a lifetime pass for going feral on Chris Brown.
Over exposed? She's hardly ever on TV shows. She hardly ever tweets.
Rolling, Someone Like You, and Set Fire To The Rain are great songs that she wrote. She totally got the Bond vibe with Skyfall. Her voice after her surgery didn't seem as good, but she can hit some really powerful and also nice soft notes.
This interview is funny
"Rihanna looked like she was balding. I don't like that receding hairline look."
Rhianna has a huge forehead, a 'five head' as some people call it. She had recently shaved one side of her head, that 'look' wouldn't have been OK with the dress she wore last night, she needed to wear a wig. She always wears some type of supplemental hair anyway, but, yes, she has a huge forehead, which without bangs or a side-swept style, can make a woman look as if their hair is receding.
As for Adele, she's just another working class Brit in the same mold as Micheal Caine, Vidal Sassoon (yes he was born working class!), Daniel Craig, James McAvoy, Jason Statham, Julie Walters etc.
Adele is certainly not the first working class person from the UK to make it in showbiz, why the rabid hate? I am not even a fan, but it seems she's disliked because she is low class.
Meanwhile, way too many Americans are now overly obsessed with the trashy low rent people on 'reality shows", why because some of these fools are rich? People with not one iota of talent are now becoming amous and wealthy, yet you put down a fat woman with a great voice and pretty face?
Adele has beautiful eyes and she has high cheekbones, even though she's overweight, she has amazing bone structure. She would be stunning if she lost more weight.
Adele is a good looking woman, she's much more attractive than that snaggle-tooth, gross smelly looking Lena Dunham who has been shoved down America's collective throat for the past year! Does Lena Dunham get a pass because she is educated? Lena Dunham has virtually no talent, yet this annoying slob is relentlessly hyped.
Adele may be a lower class brit, but she's miles above Honey Boo Boo, The Kardashians, LiLo, Britney Spears......on and on. British trash is royalty compared to trashy Americans.
If nothing else I think Adele is 100% authentic. I never buy or listen to popular music. There are two exceptions only in the last `15 years or so. The poet and songbird Macy Gray and Adele.
Say one fucking word about Macy and I will rip your heart out.
Is Chris Brown seriously wearing black socks with a white tux? If I didn't hate him before...
Agree R9. Fat ugly cow.
[quote] Bitch just got a lifetime pass for going feral on Chris Brown.
Seriously. I take back everything I ever said. Bitch wins LIFE.
Trashy fatass with her Margaret Thatcher look, a lousy, boring voice with half an octave range. and too lazy to put any emotion but whining into her songs.
Dull and irritating. Definitely the type of shit the frau flies love to hover around.
Piss off, OP.
Yeah, Adele is nothing compared to mega talents like Taylor Swift and Beyonce!!!
Adele is about as down to earth as Anne Hathaway.
But I'll forever love her for giving Chris Brown shit.
Do you know what she was saying to Chris or are you just ASS-uming?
Just watched OMG/Insider and they talked about how Adele was up and about kibbitzing with everyone. She loved meeting all of the other stars.
Maybe she told Chris she wanted a three way with him and Miguel
Can't the fat cow just fucking die already?
Apparently, Adele saw that dress in the window and just had to have it.
There's no proof Adele told off Chris Brown. Especially since the enormous tank smiled and posing for pictures with the abusive shit throughout the course of the show. What a great woman!
And even if the fat cow was telling off Chris Brown for not giving a standing ovation to Frank Ocean, the she is clearly in the wrong. Who the fuck does that obese overrated elephant think she is? She's a fat broad not the morality police. Why does this piggy get to dictate who deserves standing ovations?
I can't believe how fucking ugly she looked at the Grammys in that ridiculous dress. Did she not see her huge reflection in the mirror. Next time she ought to save our eyeballs and stay the hell home until she loses the 300 pounds she gained.
[R65] you sound like an ancient obese queen in her final misery.
I love Adele, love her music and I loved that dress.
That outfit she wore at the Grammys was just awful. She looked like Mary Poppins' carpet bag.
R66 is a McDonalds' franchise owner in Adele's hometown. Glad to hear the obese cow who embraces girlfriend-beating thugs is keeping you in business.
Wow, R65. Get some help, dear.
Did you notice that "Set Fire to the Rain' WON??????
She definitely lays the working-class accent on too thick. She's kind of the West Midlands version of Charo.
Yeah she and Chris Brown were just at each other's throats at the Grammys.
Hell no, Adele can sing. You can hear Bonnie Raitt and Dusty Springfield and Joan Armatrading and her friend Amy Winehouse in her vocal style. A bit of Linda Ronstadt too.
She does not have a huge range, and not a beautiful head voice like the big Diva's, but she has a thoughtful, soulful voice, and a tone that reminds the world of what good singing sounds like. Hers is the best major league voice in a long time but still far from the greats.
It has been a while since a dark contralto has taken the public's imagination. Soprano and Mezzo Soprano voices have been in charge for a while. Adele's tone and smoky interpretations, out of the box at nineteen gave her all she needed to be a sensation. In the cynical world of pop music it is a shock that she became known at all. (think Karen Carpenter-would she be a star today with that gorgeous voice?)
Yeah, she has too many sad songs, and her voice has a catch that inhibits a fluid style.
The bonus is that she doesn't sing endless runs and conveys the words to her songs better than most pop singers. She writes many of those songs too.
Adele is overweight, and has a throwback style of dressing. If you hate her voice, don't listen, but to reduce her to Taylor Swift's status of having a niche fan base, based on simplistic allegiances is to do her a great disservice.
Adele is a long time contender. She knows her voice and interprets within it beautifully. She is great and having fun, disrespecting no one.
Adele will be singing somewhere long after this level of fame is gone. You can hear it in the nuance of her feeling when she sings, and her love of yes, sad smoky dark and bluesy songs. She is not a pop princess, but don't count her out on that either if she wants to do it.
She has a bit of an atonal style, and lots of people don't get that. So did Bartok.
Most everyone is low class in the music business. It is the most instinctive talent there is, and gets packaged in different ways.
I like Esparanza too, and Bruno Mars and Florence Welch and yes, Kelly Clarkson. Award shows are for judging dresses, not talent.
I am posting hometown, from Adele's first album, live. She is never going to sound different than the way you know. Like Bonnie Raitt, it is all in the nuances. Adele is fine.
Get a fucking life, R73. I can smell your rolls of fate from here.
Most people are only aware of the music scene in terms of what comes at them in the mainstream. Adele is an example of that. There are superior talents who people will disregard because they are not prominent in popular entertainment. And believe me, it is just that - entertainment, not culture.
Do the drag queens love her? Or isn't she camp enough?
She's a white girl who can sing, so of course white people are catching the Holy Ghost, but she's not the second coming. She's not even Amy Wino. But she's (apparently) sober and plump and relatable. I guess y'all need her or Taylor Swift so you won't have to deal with Rihanna and Bouncy's scary beigeness.
r1 r65 r68 r74
Your degree of hatred is pathological and illuminating. Get some help.
Interesting, R73, I do hear a bit of Bonnie in Adele, of course Bonnie is better, though. I notice that a lot of people tend to knock Adele for having a limited range, but everyone isn't going to have the vocal acrobatics of Ella Fitzgerald.
Toni Braxton doesn't have a huge range, but she still has one of the most beautiful, sultry voices I've ever heard (and excellent control). What Adele does she does well. And I still find her voice to be more authentic than Amy's. I really love soul music so that's probably why Adele's voice appeals to me. Everybody isn't going to like her or her voice and that's fine. However, Adele is overexposed ( and winning every award imaginable) and that could explain some of the backlash.
Peggy Lee had no range
I love Adele, it is the emotion she conveys. Don't forget she writes those lyrics.
I would rather see a dentist than listen to Aguilera or Mariah. Katy Perry is the worst thing to happen to music in a long time.
How is Adele overexposed? She has made very few appearances. Busy having a baby.
How can you blame her for winning awards. It's not like she cheated. Truth is she set the music industry on it's ear.
"Adele is overexposed"
She's overexposed because she's all we got. We're clinging to her like a lifeboat. Think about it: who can belly up to a microphone and sing live anymore?
Watching the Grammy's (sporadically, not constantly god forbid) was a real downer. I mean really, the Foo Fighters lauded like they were the Beatles? Welcome to 1999! Song of the year that screaming Gotye song he did on a kiddie's synthesizer toy? Flat-voiced Rihanna a torch singer?
The music industry is in deep trouble when the latest rage is vocorded danceclub ditties.
The problem is that people act like she's one of the greats and I don't think she even compares to be honest. She's being pushed on us as a legend and the second-coming while she clearly isn't. And please don't insult Bonnie Raitt by comparing her to Adele, it's disrespectful.
Adele is a frau sensation. She's big, bloated and boring. She looked like a mother of 6 before she even had 1. She's way overrated with no range to speak of yet shes supposed to be so special. She's frumpy, matronly and obese so the fraus can relate.
Everyone hated Chris Brown for not giving a standing ovation to his competitor? So the fuck what?
Since when is it required to give a standing o, ever?
I didn't compare Bonnie to Adele, I compared Adele to Bonnie ( big difference). And I clearly said that I thought Bonnie was the better singer ( and I also said that I hear a BIT of Bonnie in Adele). Stop nitpicking.
[quote]hink about it: who can belly up to a microphone and sing live anymore?
yeah, Kelly Clarkson can.
Sometimes I wonder if anyone on DL has ever been to a concert. Or know any young women...
You don't have to love Adele or Kelly, but both of them can sing.
Kelly doesn't give a fuck bout how glamorous she looks, and regardless if she is thinner or fatter, she is a very good singer.
Adele is glamorous, and a fine singer too.
Some are only thinner.
I remember when Amy Wnehouse was still alive, Adele was always mentioned as an afterthought next to the more popular Winehouse
Maggie Gallagher is a big fan.
She is overrated, singers like Whitney, Natalie Cole, Aretha, Chaka, Diana Ross even Celine Dionne will sweep her off the stage easily.
Adele makes music. People buy her music because they like it. She is in the limelight because of the popularity of people buying her music.
So shouldn't you be mad at the people who buy her music?
My pussy smells like crank.
Adele has a limited 2 octave voice. She is very good in those 2 octaves but struggles when she reaches outside of her range. Her attempts at falsettos or lighter notes are very unpleasant. I find her to be an overrated singer simply because she has no choice but to sound the same in all her songs. The only thing she can change is the instruments.
