Nothing better on a crappy rainy day than chili with cornbread.
Hi OP, I'm a schooled person from Texas. That means I went to school in Texas but wasn't born there. I love the place just the same as you.
Would you post you Rx for Texas Red? I always make chili differently each time I'm inspired. I'm not one for nit picking, so with beans or without, I'd really appreciate your recipe.
I make chili Houston style with beer, beans and hominy.
It's spelled chile where I live.
I love Texas red, but there are many dishes equal on a crappy day.
Do make sure your cornmeal is organic and not GMO frankenfood.
I'm about to dive into a batch of turkey chile with white beans. Yummers.
Have Cook put in lots of red wine, Pickles/OP.

R2 I threw this one together with no real recipe but I kind of followed this one. I didn't have all the peppers either but I used beer, coffee and a lot of chili powder and the other spices. I did have the chipotles in adobo and I will add the chocolate at the end.
Some of those peppers are hard to find even here.
P.S. if you ever go to New Braunfels check out the Phoenix Saloon for their chili.
That's another one of my favorite comfort foods R11. I especially like that she created one without all the cream soups.
Crap, my corn meal has telltale signs of moths being in it. No bugs but that webbing. Is there a way to get rid of these damn things and where do they come from?
Would it be too icky to use the cornmeal?
The contamination might give an off taste to the corn meal, but we all know that many have eaten it bugs and all. I don't think it would make you sick other than thinking about eating those critters. Often the contamination comes from just one teensy-eensy bug having gotten into the meal or having laid an egg.
It's your call, I doubt anyone else eating the outcome would be any the wiser.
Hell, what's our Life Alert tags for?
beef flavored rice a roni with Pace queso sauce will beat you for comfort food OP.
Come to think of it, I thought only spiders made webs, r13
Can I rim you?
R13 I have those pantry moths as well. Just ordered something from Amazon that's supposed to attract and trap them.

We are switching to the new platform for The DataLounge this weekend. All of our mobile users have been using it for over a week and all first time users have been using it for about a month - which adds up to well over one million users. So we're ready to end this phase of the testing and move everybody to the new site. (more)
And yes, we've changed the look and some of how it operates.
Yes, we know you just *hate* it in well in advance.
Yes, we know we suck.
Yes, we are the biggest suckers that ever sucked.
But it was time for a change and with the huge shift to mobile it was long overdue. We've taken this opportunity not only to update the look but also make major changes under the hood (or "bonnet" if you're either British or pretentious or both). And we have to prepare for 2016 - a presidential election year where we can normally expect to see a 60% jump in traffic (yes, we've seen 5 presidential elections so far…Christ we're old).
The site has a bunch - nay, plethora - of new features which will make the site more usable: better search, the ability to ignore posters and threads, see link previews, to pick up a thread where you left off, spam and malware filtering and more.
If you want you can go explore and see for yourself, Click here.
And while running the tests we've noticed two interesting reactions to the new system - people are spending more time on the site and more people that come stay around longer and look at more stuff. Both good things. Yay!
Possibly we've not slain all the dragons and there will be issues that come up during the switchover. There's a help button in the lower right hand corner of the page which you can use to send us bug reports.
Please include as much information about the hardware (PC, Mac, Tablet, Phone etc), operating system (Windows, Mac OS, Android, iOS etc) and browser (Chrome, Safari, Opera, Internet Explorer etc) that you are using as possible to help us replicate and fix the problem.
Please note that complaints about colors, fonts, icons and the like are not "bugs" - they are design choices that we've made and we expect one or two cases of world-class bitching. But they won't actually cause headaches, scurvy, heart attacks, Restless Leg Syndrome, Morgellon's Disease or the vapors (but have your smelling salts at hand just in case).
