Do SAG members (actors) have good health insurance?
Do they pay a monthly premium like normal employees?
We have pretty good insurance, OP. We have to pay quarterly premiums of $273, assuming you're single. Slightly more -- $315 -- if you want your partner covered too. And then if you go to the MPTF clinic, you only have to pay a $15 copay per visit.
It used to be that we paid no premiums. That was great.
You can only grt it if you make 35k+ a year just from union acting jobs so most of the members are uninsured and their dues go to pretty much nothing but 3 free dvd screeners a year.
It's a LOT better than Equity health insurance. I tend to go back and forth year to year as to which is my primary, and I'm always happy when it's SAG.
BTW, SAG and AFTRA merged, but their health care and pension have not merged as of yet. It will be interesting to see what happens if and when they do.
It depends. They have a casting couch for that, too.
You're sure the health care hasn't merged or isn't imminently merging?
SAG/AFTRA Pension and welfare(Health Care) plans operate separately and were not allowed to predict benefits until the merger which will soon be a year ago. They're still figuring it out.
