- Oh
My
God
- Our prayers have been answered. Will Helen Lawson be performing? I thought she sang the theme for the original Casino Royale with David Niven.
- My life is now complete.
Eldergay
- AND Streisand is also performing??? This will be pretty.
- I heard she's going to sing "Get this Potty Stotted. "
http://www.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DvqNcyFNMfLM
yay
- I'm not an elder, and not only am I aware if her, I'm excited to see this. Never saw this coming.
- Lady Gaga and Cher are presenting Best Costume together.
- This looks to be an VERY entertaining Oscar's--I think the past five years or so have been pandering to a younger audience and it hasn't worked out. The Franco/Hathaway debacle has forced the Academy to go back and appeal to an older audience.
- She'll plant her own tree and watch it grow!!!
- Celebrate!
- Here they are all together.

- Reggie Dwight really is an ugly guy! Good thing he's rich.
- Now, I love Adele....but I would LOVE to see Miss Bassey perform "Skyfall"...you just know that would be Amazing !
- Agree r13
- Hell, Dame Shirley should just sing ALL the nominated songs!
- What about me? Why don't you gays love me?
Melissa%20Manchester
- We sure heard how you talked about us
We sure heard what you said!
The%20Gays
- Hot damn!!
I may actually watch this year, well for the time she is on
- Is she going to be part of the tribute to 50 years of James Bond films?
- Gold...FING-AH!!!
- Cher should sing "Nobody Does It Better".
- A lot of the younger so-called-stars should tune in and watch the supreme and unique superstar that is Dame Shirley. The rest of us will simply enjoy.
- I wish Shirley Bassey had been a bigger star in the US. She's pretty much unknown to the general public here. She should've been HUGE here in the 60s and 70s.
- Good point R23, but surely between the gays and "Goldfinger" she'll be reasonably well known ?
- I wish she'd do a tribute to Donna Summer singing her Oscar-winning Last Dance. Donna and Shirley are two of my favorite divas.
- It would be great if they got Shirley, Carly and Tina to all do their songs in the Bond tribute.
And throw in Rita Coolidge too. They could even get Connie Stevens to reprise her peformance of the McCartney tune that she did at the 73 oscars, in full amazon uniform.
- [quote]Now, I love Adele....but I would LOVE to see Miss Bassey perform "Skyfall"...you just know that would be Amazing !
Totally agree. I'd love to hear Bassey sing the guts out of that song!
- I can hear Shirley singing Skyfall in my head and it would be amazing to actually see her do it. She has such a unique and powerful voice.
- R26 How about me?
Nancy Sinatra, "You Only Live Twice," bitch
- [quote]It would be great if they got Shirley, Carly and Tina to all do their songs in the Bond tribute.
Hey!

- Fuck you all very much.
Especially Shirl.
Laterz.
Madonna
- Didn't Madonna sing a Bond song?
- I sang TWO, you fucking twat!
GAWD!
Madonna
- Shirl must have been about 11 or 12 when she sang Goldfinger! She looks hot!
- AHEM!!!!!
Lulu, ready to warble Man With The Golden Gun
- Nobody "AHEM's" quite like our wee Scots lass!
- Funny how a lonely day
Can make a person say what good is
MYYYYYEEEE LIIIIIFFEE!
- Gladys Knight and Alicia Keys also sang Bone songs.
- Generally I hate Shirley Bassey, but her Bond songs are the BEST. She still has a voice (if not a face and a body), jealous, Barbra?
- Shirley's Goldfinger and Diamonds Are Forever are the definition of camp. And that's a great thing.
- I only heard of Shirley Bassey a few years ago and always imagined her as a chunky white woman. Sorta like Ethel Merman. Go figure.
- For the gaylings.
Miss Shirley Bassey 101.

- R42, Thanks for the link.
- [quote]Shirley's Goldfinger and Diamonds Are Forever are the definition of camp.
Nothing camp about either of those songs.
- Another fantastic video for the gaylings: Dame Shirley singing "This Is My Life."

- I lost my boyfriend so unexpectedly a few years ago; it was the darkest period of my life. The vid at R42 was a perfect tribute to him. I wish I had heard of that song before he died so I could've played it for to help me convey how very much I loved him. Thank you, R42, for introducing me to this amazing lady.
- Are you kidding r44. Any more camp and they would be pitching tents.
- * so I could've played it for him
R46
- I only knew Dame Shirley from her Bond songs until I visited NYC the first time and saw a drag queen perform "Gone" and I had to know more. Got one of her greatest hits CDs and loved it. One of my best friends is obsessed with her and I gave him her biography for his birthday. My favorite chapter was called "Shirley Meets Balls", but sadly it was just about some boyfriend of hers who had "Balls" for a nickname.
Gone...is%20my%20lovah
- I can't seem to post you tube vids on my iPad (probably too stupid) but search Shirley Bassey Glastonbury and see how awesome this woman is. She is such a legend in the UK a massive crowd of drunk youngsters at a rock festival are gagging for her. Bitch flies in a helicopter wearing a ball gown and mud boots and puts on a show that would put performers half her age to shame. She rules. I can't imagine any pop diva in her age range being asked to perform at a US rock festival, let alone get this kind of reaction. To me this would be like Liza or Babs showing up at Lallapalooza.
Again, sorry for not sharing a link, but it's worth it!
- All these gals are pushing 80. How can they hold up?
- Here you go, R50.

- Diamonds are forever
Hold one up and then caress it
Touch it, stroke it and undress it
- [quote]My favorite chapter was called "Shirley Meets Balls", but sadly it was just about some boyfriend of hers who had "Balls" for a nickname.
This quote is useless without pictures.
- I'd rather Sheena Easton perform her Bond theme.
- ..........."rather....."????????????!!!!!!!!!
- No clue what you old queens are so excited about.
im%20not%20old
- But you will be, all being well, and I hope the ext younger generation aren't so cuntish to you.
- Oops...." next "
- FUCK OFF, R51!

Like this one!

- Eldergay thread alert.
- Nancy Sinatra sang a Bond song too, but I pray that she never does it again, or never sings anything again.
Shirley's Bond songs are not all that camp, but the way she performs them most definitely ARE!
- Now here, Goldfinger is done camp (Connie Francis)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-EtTg4za1g
- My fave:
http://www.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DQ4RQJSLMe-g
- Wow, thanks r52 (and 50). That was really amazing.
I agree, I can't think of that happening at a US rock festival. I was especially impressed that she closed with a medley that finished with "I Am What I Am" and had the rock-n-roll crowd roaring.
- Amazing to me (an American) that a "diva" performed at a rock concert and the audience, consisting of many (if not mostly) young straight guys went nuts. Never, never, never would this happen in the US. Like the poster said that would be like Cher at Lolapalooza. Blows my mind.
- "Generally I hate Shirley Bassey, but her Bond songs are the BEST. She still has a voice..."
So you hate her but acknowledge that she still has a voice and her Bond songs are the best.
Whatever, queen.
- Around the Hamptons, my nickname is "Surely Gassy."
I. Garten
- I love the Superfunk remix of Shirley's "Moonraker":

Dr. Holly Goodhead
- LOVE HER. Here she does "Were Am I Going?" from SWEET CHARITY.
With a kick!

- 71 - THAT is a singer. Wow. Can't wait for the Oscars. Diva Central.

- R68, you ignorant asshole. Shirley Bassey can apply her voice to Bond songs very well. But she knows nothing about subtly or singing a lyric without screaming. Of course, you wouldn't know this because you only think of "voice."
Did you know, little ignorant one, that having a good voice does not mean one is a good singer?
Go back to the cheetos, queeney.
- R73, understand to certain degree what you say - but have you ever heard her sing non - belting ballads, like "thankyou for the years" ?
- Shirley Bassey and the Propellerheads, History Repeating.
http://youtu.be/rpqYPBi6iHI
- In all my years here, I have never read such a truly nasty post as R73.
I pitty you, bro.
- You must be new here.
- Shirl's first hit, banned by the BBC as obscene:
http://www.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DNAsImh5gYwc
- That's all right, R76.
R73 knows nothing about subtly.
She knows how to hate though.
R68
- My favorite Shirley remix:
http://www.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3Dx0lg30VcKQI
- Shirley the tragic mulatto. She married an Italian because no Jamaican or Welshman wanted this lass from their gene pool. She gets bad tatse points on not liking the Italian language very much because of her ex. To be honest she sounded terrible singing in it anyway....
Shirley is the British Liza without the charm. She has the camp BUT her personality is so-so. A friend of mine met her and Sassy Miss Bassey was anything but.
- Bahbra will be singing also? I love Bahbra, dahling, but she doesn't have the range!
