How hard will New York be hit by the storm?

It seems like some people are freaking out- stocking up on bread, milk, water, batteries; others are brushing it off as all hype. After Sandy we should take things seriously, but bad will things be in the city? Even if we get a foot of snow don't you think it will be cleaned up fairly quickly? Am I just being a nervous nellie?

• 10 to 14 inches by Saturday, according to the City. It's being downplayed due to the continuing issues with Sandy cleanup.

• I feel really bad for all those people who still haven't had their houses reconstructed after Sandy. Some people still have gaping holes in their roofs. It's not a joke. How we can claim to be "first world" at this point is beyond me.
