Sandy Hook Elementary school to Perform "Call Me Maybe" on Grammy Award preshow broadcast.
American Idol host Ryan Seacrest will be flying a crew to Connecticut and plans to interview the children via satellite during the E!’s “Live From the Red Carpet” preshow, said Tim Hayes, who co-produced a recording by the children of “Over the Rainbow.”
The children also will be singing Carly Rae Jepson’s hit song, “Call Me Maybe,” he said.
“This opportunity to do something positive lets the kids know that although a lot of things happen in our world that are not pleasant, like this that happened with us in Newtown, there are many giving people and wonderful things that can come out of life, so don’t get discouraged,”
“It teaches them to use their gifts to work through things.”
- At the Oscars, they will be singing a tribute to songs of yesteryear like, "It's Hard Out There for a Pimp."

But what he really said was "let's cash in on this tragedy right quick."

- I'm glad these children will show how they have moved beyond this tragedy by singing about the joys of hooking up.
- This is bad as that Precious Moments girl. Nobody piped-up about how tacky and inappropriate this is, really?
- What's next....a National Tour?
- It is like the aftermath of 9/11
To show the American people that we can survive this tragedy and even thrive.
What's wrong with that?
- Gee, I just hope they'll be able to squeeze in on an episode of "Dance Moms".
- I'm getting sick and tired of these Sandy Hook brats.
- As a CT resident who lives near Newtown and knows a couple of first responders, I hate to say it, but we are very close to having jumped the shark on this. These kids are being exploited.
- R9 you object to the Sandy Hooks kids performing on the Grammy Awards?
- I object to the kids being used as props. Locally we're being subjected to endless grief porn. Every local newscast seems to have a different handle on the tragedy, followed by a cheesy graphic and ominous music. There are fund raisers, road races, and concerts, while the elephants in the room - gun control and mental illness are being ignored.

- Plus the song, Call Me Maybe. They're gradeschool kids, they should've at least found a song without any sexual overtones.

- F&F for not posting a link.
- It won't be as good as the year Elizabeth Smart performed "I Touch Myself."
- Mediaite's Matt Wilstein has just written
"Will the performance be another sweet, touching musical moment for America to embrace? Or will it cross the line into an exploitative ratings ploy that takes advantage of the Newtown tragedy?"
- For Pete's sake here is your link

- R15 the song Liz Smart sang was "He Touched Me'
- You're right, r18. I got it mixed up with the year the McMartin Preschool Glee Klub dazzled America with "Don't Tell Mama" from CABARET.
r15
- They're the new Brady Bunch Kids!
- anyone else?
- Please, PLEASE tell me this isn't true.
PLEASE.
- ...but I suppose it's better than seeing those tiresome kids from the New York public school. The ones who sway back and forth and emote to songs with clinched hands to their hears while their white, dreadlocked male teacher "directs" them.
Sorry, but I'm sick of those kids.
- What about us?????
When do WE get to sing?

- This is really tacky. How is this supposed to help them get over the event? Anyone with half a brain can see EXPLOITATION written all over this shit. Will Kim Kardashian be interviewing them and guiding them to become better human beings?
- [quote] Will Kim Kardashian be interviewing them and guiding them to become better human beings?
No that is Ryan Seacrest job. He is the one who came up with the idea.
- R26 Yes love and he is also so far up KK's asshole he can't see the light of day.
R25
- I'm with R22.
- I find all their appearances creepy and exploitative.
- We don't recall approving this.

- I'm mortified for those kids. I used to HATE it when I was in elementary school and they'd make us learn these little songs and dances to perform in front of our parents. Now they're making the kids do it on national television? Fuck off
- The only thing worse than a tragedy is those who milk it for all its worth.
- So anyone see them perform?
- This is getting a bit strange. Are they going to cart these children out for every big event? Will they be on the Oscars next?
Anonymous
- ah, the inevitable grief porn. this country eats this up.
- Shoot Me Maybe?
- The Sandy Hook kids (special guest of Anne Hathaway) will escort her to the podium when her name is called at the Oscars.
- Oh, since there was no link on the OP, I assumed it was a satirical piece. Dear god. Everything must be spectacle for the media?
- At least it's not "Die Young."

- BREAKING NEWS
Because of the snowstorm, the Sandy Hook Elementary school performance has been cancelled.
The performance would have seen an independent choir of Newtown children perform "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" and "Call Me Maybe," but network officials say winter weather interfered, according to the Hartford Courant.

- Yes, R41. I was in utter disbelief until I got to R17. It scares me when life begins to imitate the folks who trash or satirize it. The fricking Super Bowl. Unreal.
- I would also like to announce that I will be opening up a "Let's Roll" Cinnamon Rolls Bakery and Cafe in Sandy Hook next week. Those dear children will sing Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" as the ribbon is cut!

- So tasteless.
- Which idiot OK'd a hookup song for elementary school students?
- Please let this link to The Onion...
- Booked to sing "No One is Alone" (INTO THE WOODS) during the memorial segment on the Tony Awards.
- SO sorry this didn't happen
- This.Did.Not.Happen.
- Because of the snow storm R52
If not for an act of god it would have.
- That is so sickeningly American - cloying, trite, inane, inappropriate. Like Bette Midler singing Wind Beneath My Wings are 9/11. You can never just let a tragedy occur without forcing people to romanticize their anguish can you? America has the most tasteless and primitive entertainment industry on earth.
- apologies - *are meaning after
- r38, it would more appropriate if those kids sang "I Dreamed A Dream".
- Did you ever know that you're my hero, r54?
- What about when they sang "America the Beautiful" at the Super Bowl? Because yeah, it IS beautiful how easy it is to get ahold of assault rifles in America. *eagle cry*
