- West Side Story, if I had to choose one. A perfect musical, almost perfectly transferred to film
Soulman
- Noises Off
- With me it's a tie Now Voyager w/ Bette Davis and Guess Who's Coming To Dinner. The scene that gets me every time is Spencer Tracy's monologue right before he gives his permission for them to marry.
- Cabaret, Chinatown, Auntie Mame (Roz), Scarlet Empress, Some Like It Hot,...hard to choose!
- Amelie, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Singin' in the Rain, Caberet
- Chinatown and The Butcher Boy. I could watch those two on an eternal loop and be perfectly satisfied.

- It's a Wonderful Life - a movie beloved for the wrong reasons. (I don't see it as a heartwarming sentimental holiday movie as much as a moving left-wing tract that condemns unbridled capitalism as represented by the spidery Mr. Potter)

- R52, I hate the "Women in Peril" channel, too. I call it the "Men Are Bad" channel. However, I find it so addictive sometimes, I have to keep both Lifetime channels off the remote. If Dylan Neal or Andrew Walker is the Bad Man of the Hour, I can't not watch. It just takes over my brain.
- Point Blank (1967). Lee Marvin at the top of his game. Angie Dickinson, smoldering. John Vernon and Carroll O'Connor, perfection.
The Getaway (1972). Steve McQueen just killed (literally and figuratively) in this classic.
Ali McGraw was at her best too.
The Maltese Falcon (1941). Movies don't get any better. Bogie was the man.
Goodfellas (1990). The most enjoyable movie of the last 25 years.

- Rick: I'm saying it because it's true. Inside of us, we both know you belong with Victor. You're part of his work, the thing that keeps him going. If that plane leaves the ground and you're not with him, you'll regret it. Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of your life.
Ilsa: But what about us?
Rick: We'll always have Paris. We didn't have, we, we lost it until you came to Casablanca. We got it back last night.
Ilsa: When I said I would never leave you.
Rick: And you never will.

- Star Trek-The Motion Picture. People always flame on me because of this. Most find the film to be slow and boring. I have always found it to be very intelligent and very rewarding. Beautiful effects (especially for 1979), stunning cinematography, wonderful music and a powerful ending. My favorite Star Trek movie and my all-time favorite movie.
V'ger
- I like ST:TMP a lot too. It's too cerebral and talky for most of the fan boys who prefer the space battles and scenery chewing of some of the later movies, but I love the bigger themes that play out in the movie.
- Heat with DeNiro and Pacino
Thief with James Caan and Tuesday Weld
An American Werewolf in London
Superman: The Movie
Jaws
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Alien / Aliens
- It's a toss up...I couldn't live without Sunset Blvd. and La Dolce Vita.
- R132, I like Star Trek: The Motion Picture, as well. I have both the Director's Cut on DVD and the original theatrical version on BlueRay (after wearing out more than a couple of VHS tapes back in the day). It is a visually stunning movie. I remember being blown away by it back in '79. Robert Wise was a phenomenal director and I think he accomplished greatness with ST:TMP. Very cerebral. I think it went over a lot of people's heads (and it still does). Sad that most people prefer Star Trek 2009.

Rob
- "The African Queen" - Bogie and Kate Hepburn... you can't go wrong with this one.
- PAPILLON (1973). I love Steve McQueen, and he is at the top of his game in this one. Dustin Hoffman rocks, as well. McQueen's last absolute, balls to the wall classic movie. My second favorite film of all-time.

I've never cared for musicals or rom-coms. That's just me. Most of my buddies like the same type of movies that I do. Not one John Waters flick....Not one "Maurice"....
Gaylings are a shit generation.

- R197, Uh, no. LOL.
- Wonderful list, R195, but 'Lilya 4-Ever' a favorite? Really? That movie is so fucking brutal. Although, I can't really talk--one of my all time favorite films is 'The Deer Hunter'. Probably seen it 20 times, at least.
The same goes for 'Amelie'. I've worn out my dvd.
It's hard to say what my absolute favorite is these days. My top five rotates upon rewatches, so the top spot has changed over the years.

The best movie ever filmed. Based on the best novel ever written. A masterpiece.

Silver Screen Queen
- One that nobody remembers... "Roadie". It was released in 1980 and was a huge hit and the funniest comedy ever. Great soundtrack too - Blondie, Cheep Trick, Pat Benathar, Joe Ely Band, Alex Cooper (remember, the acid rocker with the boa constricter, whose also in the movie), Emmie Lou Harrus, Hank Williams, Styx, Teddy Pentergrast, Jerry Lewis, Ron Orbison. Best comedy of all time. I finally found the DVD and will never part with it.

- You all suck. The best movie EVER, hands down, is The Joy Luck Club.

- R230, Wow! Just wow! First off, are you for real? Roadie is one of two movies I have walked out in my life. Pure garbage. As for your soundtrack listing, I think you meant ALICE Cooper (not Alex). Also, the correct spellings are Pat Benatar, Cheap Trick, Emmylou Harris, Roy Orbison, Teddy Pendergrass. You said Jerry Lewis, but I think it was actually Jerry Lee Lewis. I have a headache from reading your post, I must lie down now.

Hey, asshole! The title of the thread is "Your favourite movie" not "What's the best movie ever? or even "most cliche-ridden movie about Asians since Charlie Chan" Go shove a mahjong tile up your cunt.
