Anderson Cooper To Be Axed On CNN At 10:00PM
Will be replaced by newcomer.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2273356/EXCLUSIVE-Anderson-Coopers-10pm-axed--make-way-big-new-hire-primetime-CNN.html#axzz2K21HqETM
- I'll wait for a more legitimate source like TVNewser, New York Times, Hollywood Reporter, etc. But even if it's true, what difference does it make if that hour's not repeated?
- Didn't we already know that he's losing this slot?
- I wonder who CNN is going to put up against Rachel Maddow? Someone said that Zucker wanted to knock off MSNBC first and then become a formidable challenge to FoxNews.
- That info was posted here last summer on an old Cooper thread.
- AC ratings are actually better at 10PM
At 8PM he is in a tenuous third place, with Nancy Grace nipping at his heels. Right now O'Reilly is 1st, followed by the Ed Show.
At 10PM AC has higher 18-49 demos, though he is still second to FOX
Maybe Zucker wants to build on those higher demos with a fresh face.
But at 8PM AC is in serious danger of slipping to fourth.
- I don't think Ann Curry would be much of a challenge to Rachel Maddow.
- Piers Morgan and Jeff Zucker are old friends, so Piers is not going anywhere and he is staying at 9PM opposite Rachel Maddow.
- What I want to know is if CNN's planning on moving further to the right to compete with Fox, because they've gone too far already for me.
- They've fired there conservative contributors already (see the thread about Carville and Matalin). There was an article (from the HW Reporter, I believe) linked in that thread that suggested Zucker was trying to increase the likability factor among hosts and contributors. Matalin was just rancorous.
- Well, since Anderson's 10pm slot is a repeat of his 8pm show (which will still be on), the Daily Mail's overly sensationalistic headline is a bit misleading, but then again it's coming from a bottom-of-the-barrel tabloid, so this kind of tactic isn't exactly surprising.
I'm glad Zucker is moving the dreadfully smug Erin Burnett to a morning time slot. Hopefully she'll be replaced by someone who I can actually watch at 8pm.
- Yes, Erin Burnett is disgusting and so obviously biased against liberals. I don't want to see her in the evening either.
Zucker did a good thing getting rid of some of those hateful conservatives like the viscious Mary Matalin, now he needs to get rid of Ari Fleischer's ugly mug.
- Anderson isn't losing his job. and IMO, he should.
Anonymous
- An stop inviting John McCain on. He needs to go away and do a Viagra commercial like Bob Dole.
Anonymous
- Cooper Anderson!
- Bring back Bernard Shaw!
- He lost his daytime show. This is pretty big. It's not sensationalism. It's reality. He's on his way out at this point. No pun intended.
- If he loses CNN, he'll still have 60 Minutes and they want him full-time.
- This is silly, I don't believe it.
- Predictions of Anderson being on his way out are a time-honored DL tradition r16, yet after all these years of posters claiming that his career was about to end, he's still around. His talk show may have been cancelled, but he's still on CNN every night of the week, and on 60 Minutes. I'm sure no matter how much house cleaning Zucker will be doing at CNN in the coming days (and deservedly so), he won't get rid of Anderson.
- I bet he leaves CNN and heads over to 60 minutes. CBS has already expressed interest in him. Given that he is pulling in $7-$8MM for his CNN duties alone in addition to his salary for his failed talkshow I am sure that Zucker would be happy to release him from his contract.
http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/cbs-execs-high-on-anderson-cooper_b126787
- True R19, I'll believe it when I see it. Even if it does happen, he'll be fine with 60 Minutes. CNN is rock bottom now and Zucker may not be able to fix it, Anderson might be better off gone from that place.
- [quote]He lost his daytime show. This is pretty big. It's not sensationalism. It's reality.
He brought it on himself. In his night time show, when he was pushing a segment called "Keeping Them Honest" while sitting in a well-known glass closet, he didn't project a lot of honesty. Add in the constant whine and he didn't project the image of a highly qualified journalist.
A talk show host needs to inject something personal into interactions with the audience, but for the entire first year of his talk show, he was in his glass closet, while there was a big rainbow striped elephant in the room. There were always thoughts of "Will he come out today?" or "Will somebody out him today?" After a whole year of that, it was clear that he doesn't have what it takes to carry a talk show.
- I watch Anderson every chance I get. You should watch him, too.
PLRGGV
- r8 really wants know if CNN will moving FARTHER to the right.
- If AC makes it to September, AC360 will have been airing for 10 years.
- Chill out R22, I think he's over the talk show by now anyway. What he did or didn't do doesn't matter and he's out, but I'm not getting into the same old boring argument with the same person with the same agenda on this every week.
- [quote]What he did or didn't do doesn't matter and he's out, but I'm not getting into the same old boring argument with the same person with the same agenda on this every week.
Amen to that, r26!
- Chill out? That sounds like it's coming from an angry person who doesn't want to deal with the truth, r26. When he's gone from 360, no doubt you'll jump on the boring "He's got 60 Minutes" meme. Your "If AC makes it to September" clearly shows your doubt about him lasting on 360. That's a significant "If" you posted.
- Ben reacts:
http://www.runninginto2000.com/images/rrcartoon.gif
- Yeah I said "if" because we ALL know Zucker's making changes and yes, he WILL have 60 Minutes and I'm glad about it. I like him, YOU don't. I know who you are and what your deal is R28 and if anyone is angry it's YOU. You're always angry about Anderson and are reveling in the thought of him failing so you can come here and gloat about it with the other haters of him here. The only reason you're "bored" by the 60 Minutes thing is because you know it's true, he's got it, they want to keep him and you can't change that.
- R27, the anti-AC troll @ R22 is starting her usual and BORING shit again.
- Speaking of truth, my poor r28, what would you do if Anderson's career really came to an end, as you so gleefully (yet inaccurately) predict time and again on DL? Consider yourself lucky that he still has both 360 and 60 Minutes, so that you can keep yourself busy by posting tiresome rants about him. Otherwise, your life would be even emptier than it is now.

- Bravo R32! You read her exactly right.
- I wish AC would be named anchor of the CBS Evening News. He's better than that sevenheaded potato faced Scott Pelley, who always sounds to me as if he's about to try to sell me a used car.
CNN may want to break away from AC, but I don't think it's because of his "complete collapse." The new boss wants to put his stamp on things and AC, along with Wolf Blitzer and a few others, is one of CNN's most identifiable faces. Zucker might want some new faces for his new CNN.
- [quote]I know who you are and what your deal is
OMG, I can't believe you caught on to the fact that I'm 88angel. I thought I was being too clever for you to figure it out. You're brilliant.
- [quote]You're brilliant.
And you're not. You are however, transparent and pathetic as usual.
- I'd rather Anderson Cooper broke into Y&R to inform us we were in a nuclear war with North Korea than that lightweight Scott Pelley.
- R29: yeah, and it is written into Ben's settlement that he gets the firehouse, unlimited travel, and lifetime alimony.

- [quote][R8] really wants know if CNN will moving FARTHER to the right.
Further, farther...let's call the whole thing off. Well, they are moving right. Piers Morgan is going to have Dick Morris on his show after Morris made a fool of himself during the election. Fox doesn't even want him back on air. And this:
[quote]CNN Hosts Richard Land, Who Says Being Gay Is A "Sin," To Discuss Boy Scouts Ban @CNN Are you racing to beat FOX?
- Actually R34 CBS is just waiting for AC CNN contract to expire, so they can place him in the anchor chair.
Scott Pelley is just filling in until AC is free from CNN.
- I have no idea who you actually are R35 (nor do I give a shit), but I do know that you have no life other than bitching about Anderson Cooper and that you sound like a broken record. That's all there is to know about you, really.
r32
- Another bravo for R32/R41!
- Zucker will be out in two years.
- I told that grey haired bitch not to cross me!
Don%20Lemon
- John King is staying with CNN, but surprisingly, Candy Crowley may leave. Another right winger down perhaps?
http://www.mediabistro.com/fishbowldc/john-king-safe-cnn-jeff-zucker_b95572
- I'm pretty sure if Candy Crawley leaves it's because she's bought a Denny's franchise.
That will end in tears, no question.
- [quote]I'm pretty sure if Candy Crawley leaves it's because she's bought a Denny's franchise.
lmao, you guys are so brutal to that poor woman.
- [quote] I'm pretty sure if Candy Crawley leaves it's because she's eaten an entire Denny's franchise.
There, I fixed that for you.
- Now that AC has a direct connection to the "person of interest" in the Los Angeles cop shooting, this could get him some of the highest ratings since he started going down the tubes a year ago.
- He needs to head out to L.A. to cover the search for the cop killer.
- Well now he got that package, so I guess this chase is working out well for him.
- Who the fuck are they hiring?
Sarah Palin?
Dick Morris?
More%20Tea%20%28Party%29%20please%21
- Ac at 8 p.m. isn't working seriously. I think it won't be long before he either does something else for CNN or leaves period to CBS or something. I think he likes CNN because of the gay content they allow him to cover and other out journalist but let's face it AC is not a ratings machine and CNN needs to do something they should have done a LONG time ago.
- He would probably do well as a host of a quiz show. It doesn't require much of a personality.
- Law enforcement officials are inspecting a package CNN's Anderson Cooper received from a former Los Angeles police officer who allegedly killed three in a shooting spree.
CNN spokeswoman Shimrit Sheetrit said Thursday that a parcel containing a note, a DVD and a bullet hole-riddled memento were sent by Christopher Dorner and addressed to Cooper's office.
LAPD Cmdr. Andrew Smith says LAPD robbery-homicide detectives will inspect the package for clues.
The package arrived Feb. 1, days before the first two killings Dorner is accused of.
- Anderson is far from perfect and he is many things, but he is not stupid. Since he willingly left his talk show knowing full well the CNN ratings were diminished, I am sure he will turn up someplace better.
That being said, Candy Crowley leaving CNN would be a real bummer, she is very intelligent and I enjoy her program.
I also challenge the assertion she is a "right winger" r45, and I think Mitt Romney's team would agree.
- I'm glad Candy Crowley may leave since she's a right wing shill, she belongs on Fox. She may have half-heartedly corrected Romney (she made sure to say his overall point was correct in the debate) but she spends most of her show on Sunday bashing Obama.
I sort of hope Anderson leaves CNN so I would never have to watch it again.
- I know he's such a huge fave here, and I'm really happy to have a visible gay man very prominent in network news, but I can see why they want to get rid of him.
He has a pronounced stammer which is not his fault but which makes him very frustrating to listen to as an interviewer and as an anchorman. And he is kind of the gay Star Jones in that he has become such a famewhore to such an annoying degree. When he was in his 20s and 30s a lot of his famewhore antics (being best friends highly publicly with cheesy media faghags Kelly Ripa and Kathy Griffin, and making sex jokes with them on the air; being constantly in the head) was adorable. Now that he's well into his 40s it seems childish and undignified.
- r57 perhaps you're just sensitive whenever anyone has anything negative to say about Obama. Candy Crowley is fair. She has always been. You need to stop being so defensive about Obama. He's a politician, not your uncle or your father. We can and should criticize about political leaders.
- R59, Candy Crowley is NOT fair. I guess you don't watch her show. It has nothing to do with someone being overly sensitive about the President - I don't expect him to not be criticized or examined, but I do know when reporters have agendas and tend to slant their reporting in a certain direction when they're supposed to be fair and impartial. Crowley is NOT impartial.
- That is your opinion and your perception, but it doesn't make it true. There is something about Obama that causes his supporters to not want anyone saying anything negative about him.
On the issue of drones, it seems like the majority of those on the left, particularly those who are ardent supporters of the President, either don't want to discuss it at all or are all of the sudden in favor of drones. Rachel Maddow is being savaged for her continuous coverage of drones. These are same people have watched her and agreed with her (so long as it's not critical of Obama) on everything else.
Perhaps you ought to take a look at yourself r60. It's not Crowley. It's you.
- If any reporter has been hard on the President it's AC... especially doing the election year and before Obama announced he was for gay marriage and before AC announced the obvious thing he didn't have to announce.
- Cue the gay-haters saying it's because he came out....
- I'm surprised John King is still around.
- R61, you are of the perception that Crowley is non-biased and fair. That doesn't make it true. I am not the first person to point out her biases and right wing slant. I've already stated that I don't think the president is above criticism, but I also believe that people like Crowley, Tapper, Todd and Gregory are no fans of the President and tend to slant their reporting in favor of the conservative view. Once again, you must not watch her show. I think it's fine for Rachel Maddow to cover/criticize the president on drones because I know Rachel is inherently FAIR. Crowley is NOT.
- Yes r65 they're all conspiring against Obama.
- R66, we disagree. Enough said.
- His ratings failure and cancellation had nothing to do with him coming out and had everything to do with his dishonesty.
He pushed "Keeping Them Honest" when he was unable to be honest. Everyone knew about his glass closet. Even his coming out was a media disaster. He waited until he was out of the country and away from the U.S. media. He wasn't man enough to deal with it and had to go into hiding on a private yacht half a world away.
How much of his coming out e-mail, if any, did he write? Was it Andrew Sullivan who told him to man up and face the truth for a change? Did Andrew Sullivan actually write it for him. also?
It would be interesting to know if Sullivan knew Cooper would go into hiding when the coming-out e-mail was pubished.
- R68, you need to give your anti-AC crusade a rest. He's out now, that's all that matters, so stop living in the past and move on.
- The one thing that really bothered me was that Cooper would leave after the 8pm show, and if something big happened news wise, a random HLN anchor would have to report it.
- Thank you R69, R68 is absolutely ridiculous. No one cares about any of what she's saying, none of it matters, what matters is that Anderson is OUT, the questions R68 is posing about the how and why are utterly pointless, he is OUT. He'll be fine in his career, whatever happens.
- Yes, r69, we know he's out and we know how his glass closet damaged his reputation. It's an actual part of his history and an important lesson to others in the closet. We move on by learning from history, not erasing history as you wish would happen. Your denial of history is typical of the Rethug mindset that wants to whitewash 8 years of Bush, too.
- Something is damaged alright but it's not Anderson's reputation. R68/R72 needs to get help and FAST.
- When you can't refute the facts, you attack the poster; is that the way it works R73?
Do you think that standing up for AC will make him notice you? Sorry, you can't compete with Ben.
- R74, what you're saying has nothing to do with facts to begin with but you're the only one who can't recognize it. And the second part of your question is idiotic and doesn't deserve a response at all.
- The headline of this thread sounds like he's being executed on live television.
Howard Beale
- [quote]what you're saying has nothing to do with facts to begin with but you're the only one who can't recognize it.
Interesting that you think I'm not dealing in facts, r75. Now we find out, according to your fairytale world, R75, AC didn't come out of the closet. He didn't come out in an email. He didn't come out to Andrew Sullivan. He didn't leave the country when he came out. He didn't push "Keeping Them Honest" while hiding in a glass closet.
Please tell us what other history you plan to rewrite. Was Obama born in a foreign land according your views? Did Bush honestly win the Oval Office? You really know how to emulate the Rethuglicans.
- Sorry R77, you're nuts and there's only so much one can say to a nut, so bye.
- Once again, R78 is cReEPy.
- AC moving to ABC to be with Gio. You heard it here first.
- Gurl, how much you want to bet that package Anderson received has extended his career at CNN for another couple of years?
- I'd rather have that "package" that Anderson receives from Ben on a regular basis.
- R82 Wonder how many others Ben shares his "package" with on a regular basis. Apparently they aren't exclusive.

- Not only does R68/R72/R74/RR77 sound like a broken record when she keeps harping about the past, but some of her comments are downright nutty, such as this one:
[quote]How much of his coming out e-mail, if any, did he write? Was it Andrew Sullivan who told him to man up and face the truth for a change? Did Andrew Sullivan actually write it for him. also?
Yeah, I'm sure Sullivan wrote Anderson's coming out statement. That's the most plausible, logical, rational, and intelligent explanation. Thank you R68 for getting to the bottom of the story with your incredibly astute powers of deduction!
[quote]Your denial of history is typical of the Rethug mindset that wants to whitewash 8 years of Bush, too.
So if anyone disagrees with you, they're automatically Republicans? Do you know how crazy that sounds, r72? Probably not.

- Thank you R84 for injecting some well-needed intelligence into this thread.
[quote]Even his coming out was a media disaster.
Yes, Anderson's coming out was such a "media disaster" that he has been voted LGBT person of the year by the readers of Out Magazine, R68. Indeed, a true disaster. You really need to take your meds before you start typing, hon. The cray-cray is literally oozing out of your feverish fingers.
- [quote]Yes, Anderson's coming out was such a "media disaster" that he has been voted LGBT person of the year by the readers of Out Magazine
Not exactly a huge pool from which to choose, though, is it?
- [quote]he has been voted LGBT person of the year by the readers of Out Magazine
That was amazing. The competition was stiff. I cried when he gave his acceptance speech and saluted the runner ups, Floyd Brewbarf, a barber from Paducah, KY and 98-year-old Nellie Brewbarf, owner of a U-Haul dealership in Hicktown, GA.
- You can spare us your tedious sarcasm, r87. The point is that his coming out wasn't the "media disaster" that R68 claims. But of course you know that quite well, don't you dear?
- R88...OUT magazine????! Mary!!! LOL!!!
- I missed it. What did they axe him?
- Is everyone completely retarded on this thread? The point I was making by mentioning that Anderson has been voted LGBT person of the year by the readers of Out was that R68's assertion that his coming out was a "media disaster" was patently false and idiotic.
r85/r88
- Thank you R88.
- [quote]Is everyone completely retarded on this thread?
Only the crazy anti-AC troll.
- That seems to be the case, R93. I think she has finally found a way to fool trolldar by cleaning up her cookies.
- And she's started ANOTHER AC thread R94!
- Of course she did, R95. She seems to be spending all her time on DL creating multiple AC threads where she can indulge her obsessive urge to write post after post bashing him. Bitch needs a hobby.
- Oh, he was voted most impressive gay of the year by the readers!
Well, nothing like the people's choice... How'd he do in the Readers Digest Sweepstakes?
- Since R97 sounds a bit slow, I'll repeat my previous response for her benefit:
[quote]Is everyone completely retarded on this thread? The point I was making by mentioning that Anderson has been voted LGBT person of the year by the readers of Out was that [R68]'s assertion that his coming out was a "media disaster" was patently false and idiotic.
Did you get it this time, sweetie? Or do you need me to break it down into more basic terms for you to understand what I was really talking about here?
r91
- With a monthly circulation of 231,000 it wasn't a media anything, 91. I get your point. You don't understand the weakness of your citation.
- Doesn't matter what it was, he came OUT, that's what's important. He's an OUT GAY MAN. Someone needs to get over it.
- The point I was making wasn't about Out as a major media company, silly R99. R68 posted a bunch of insane comments, such as the following:
[quote]Even his coming out was a media disaster. He waited until he was out of the country and away from the U.S. media. He wasn't man enough to deal with it and had to go into hiding on a private yacht half a world away. How much of his coming out e-mail, if any, did he write? Was it Andrew Sullivan who told him to man up and face the truth for a change? Did Andrew Sullivan actually write it for him also?
I just picked up on her highly subjective and inaccurate statement that Anderson's coming out was a "media disaster" by mentioning that the readers of Out Magazine had voted him LGBT person of the year. I could have picked up any number of news outlet who praised him for his coming out statement.
But you know that full well. Interesting that you'd rather argue with me about my choice of Out to illustrate a bigger point rather than discuss the much more outrageous things that R68 had to say on the topic. Why is that? Do you mean to say that you agree with her insane theories on this? Do you also believe that Andrew Sullivan actually wrote AC's coming out statement? If you do, please say so, it's always interesting to meet tin hat conspiracy theorists like you and r68.
r91/r98
- Anderson seems to enjoy bragging about the package he received from the ex-cop
Anonymous
- Axed what?
Shiniquoa
- He wasn't bragging at all R102. Facts are facts, the fugitive sent him the package and he's not supposed to talk about it?
- I love R101!
- Thank you R105.
And notice how R99 has suddenly gone silent and won't respond to my fair question about what she thinks of r68's insane assertions. What a surprise!
r101
- She can't respond to actual logic, R106, it's a foreign concept for her.
- R106 is right: the fact that R99 has yet to respond is quite interesting.
And yes, R68 is completely out of her mind.
- I hope Anderson doesn't take his career crumbling too hard. I don't want to see him flying out a window like his brother. And I definitely don't want to see him splattered on the sidewalk. I hope his boyfriend is keeping an eye on him. I'm sure he can spare one eyeball even if the other is busy ogling other men. I hope Anderson considers everything his mother has lost, like her money and original face.
- God, you Andertrolls are the nuttiest people on DL.
- Oh he doesn't need your fake concern or sarcasm R109. He'll do just FINE no matter what comes up and that probably pisses you off huh?
- [quote]You don't understand the weakness of your citation.
And you don't seem to understand the significance of your cowardly silence, r99. How come you're so vocal about criticizing my use of Out Magazine to illustrate a point but won't tell us what you think of r68's insane theories? Inquiring minds want to know.
106
- Give it a rest R112. The important thing is that he finally came out and it doesnt' need a citation about him being man of the year or some other silliness. You're like some mad dog with a death grip on another dog and just won't let go. Isn't his coming out enough without your having to dress it up in glitter and rainbow flags? Do you always dwell on the past? Move on, Missy.
- Well lookee here, our very own Queen of Sarcasm R87/r113 is now accusing me of dwelling too much on the past because I dared make fun of R99's piss-poor argument and of R68's insane theories? Really R113, I'm the one who needs to be reminded that the "important thing is that Anderson finally came out" here? Please, go back and read the posts I was responding to before making a fool of yourself by throwing false charges at me.
- Again R114, you're like some mad dog with a death grip on another dog and just won't let go. You won't let go. You won't let go.
- R112, in a nutshell, I haven't weighed in again because I don't really give a shit. I'd forgotten I'd even posted on a thread about a moderately talented news actor who will likely be more has been than hot property in another couple of years.
For the record, though, I think R68's theory is every bit as ridiculous as the energy you're expounding. I also think OUT magazine doesn't pack the wallop of, say, The Economist and that the motivations of Anderson Cooper aren't significant enough in the scheme of things to bring out cowardice in anybody.
It's one thing to have an opinion, quite another to get riled up like you've been affronted personally.
Like R113 said, move on. You're looking silly.
- You're doing the exact same thing you accuse me of by being on my case, r115. Interesting that you have such a problem with me making fun of r68's insane theories. Why won't you let that go?
r114
- Girls, girls, girls, you're all fugly cunts with no lives.
Mrs. Garrett
- I also heart R118.
- R116 is so disingenuous and full of shit.
- Well, I guess I've been told.
Excuse me, there's a Ted Koppel thread I have to set right and then I'm going to kill myself. I can't go on.
R116
- [quote][R112], in a nutshell, I haven't weighed in again because I don't really give a shit. I'd forgotten I'd even posted on a thread about a moderately talented news actor who will likely be more has been than hot property in another couple of years.
Bitch please, who do you think you're fooling?
- Thank you R113.
- Are they replacing dick muncher with Dick Morris?
- R124 doesn't like dick? Is AC supposed to be ashamed that he likes dick? He's gay ya know.
