I did a search and didn't find another one opened today (I know one of the posters requested that OP maintain the 'quacking' comment when naming a new thread) and of the half dozen that are a few weeks older, this one seems like it has the broadest title.

That medical examiner dude is handsome. I wasn't following the trial the first time he testified (the first week in January?!?!?!?) so this is the first time I've seen him. He gets my vote for hottest dude associated with the trial - but to be fair, there are slim pickings with this one.
Jodi did a pretty good job with the fake tears while they were showing autopsy photos. She wasn't at all over-the-top. But I do feel bad for the wheelchair grandma (the owner of the gun Jodi stole and used to murder Travis) as her presence seems to be a desperation tool for the defense.
Wheel an elderly & handicapped family member into the courtroom so Jodi can be seen frequently looking back to the gallery for some sympathetic familial supportive glances. This seems especially useful when hard scientific evidence is being presented that would disprove much of what the defendant has said on the stand. - That move must come straight out of some defense attorney handbook of tricks and stunts.

Trial done until next Wednesday because the last witness isn't available until then. Hopefully they are right about closing arguments on Thurs and Fri and then the jury finally gets to begin their discussions.

And the guy wouldn't answer a reporter's questions as he was leaving the courthouse. Too bad since he's so close to the end.
- While I've been an active poster in the other two threads on this trial, I'm glad it's winding down. I can only imagine how the jurors and anyone actually involved in the trial must feel.
My prediction is she will be found guilty and will get life w/out parole. While I think she should get the death penalty, she probably won't.
I'm also predicting jury deliberation will not be a long process. Whether it's the verdict I predicted above or maybe even a hung jury, it will probably come relatively quick.
- As things stand right now, I would agree with you R9. I'm feeling a very short deliberation with a guilty verdict, but the point that will take the time is disagreement between jurors about giving not the death penalty and they will ultimately settle on life in prison.
But my feeling might change next week based on whatever the final defense witness has to say, and how strong or convincing each of the sides does in closing.

Travis wasn't a virgin prior to his relationship with Jodi. As was testified to just last week he had pre-marital sex with at least one of his previous girlfriends, and had dealt with the ramifications of his church through the bishop.
I don't believe there has been anything either in court testimony or info from outside the courtroom that indicates he dealt with any depression.

Why do you presume they are stupid time wasting questions? Just because you may not understand their relevance doesn't make them irrelevant.
It is often the case that questions are asked so that testimony and evidence solicited can be argued in closings.
When you close your mind to one side or the other then you miss out on things.

Of course the defense wanted to use them in trial, but in the pre-trial litigation it was determined that Jodi had FORGED the letters while she was in jail.
The court decided that neither side could have anything about those letters or Jodi creating them presented to this jury.
There is so much information that the jury isn't privy to in this case, and some of it is with good reason. But I'd say that if it can be verified that she manufactured evidence to support her own case, it should be allowed.

Of course that could be the problem. In any event it seems to be a collateral issue and though it could be argued it goes to her credibility which would make it non-collateral, there may have been some question about proving up the state's argument.
Trial viewers start to believe they have all the facts and details of a case and the various issues that arise during the case when they often don't. Collateral matters that don't go to the elements of the offense are thought to be too time consuming and distracting to the jury. To prove it you'd have to have a mini-trial on the issue. This is not a judge that is very defense oriented so if she could have let it in she would have.
Why do some posters jump on anyone who offers an opposing view accusing them of being Team Jodi? This isn't about "Teams". For some, it is possible to have a discussion about the trial and the conduct of the trial in an objective manner without being team anyone.

- I'm predicting the verdict will be reached and announced by Tuesday afternoon.
The jury has had four months of trial to have some sort of idea on level of guilt. And unlike some trials, Jodi Arias took the stand and testified. It seems like theres much less guess work for a jury if the defendent testifies. Juan Martinez did a good job reminding the jury of the numerous lies she told to their face. The Walmart thing was a prime example of getting caught in a lie. Nurmi got that dead wrong in his closing argument.
I always wondered we didn't hear more from the car rental place. In my experience, you never drive off a rental car lot without a walk around inspection with the rental agent. And an upside down license plate would be impossible to overlook. For whatever the reason, neither side ever brought that up.
Just wait and see how she will turn on her lawyers. If she gets a lesser charge or acquitted, she'll credit herself. If it ends with first degree murder, she'll turn on Jennifer W. and K. Nurmi in a flash. Jennifer W.'s buddy-like behavior will all the sudden be used against her when Jodi starts her appeals.

- With three (or is it four) jurors dismissed, the current jury has many more men than women on it. (One source online says 10 men - could this be true?) Studies show that men can go easy on female defendants, especially when the women are trim. - They haven't even been deliberating that long. Nancy, Jane, Vinnie would have you think they've been in there for 10 days.
On Friday, they probably had time to pee, elect a jury foreman, and vent a little. I doubt much deliberating, if any, was done Friday. Their one hour together was more about logistics and starting fresh on Monday.
I think we'll hear the verdict by Tuesday afternoon.
- The Scott Peterson Jury deliberated for 7 full days, and he got Murder 1 + the DP. Granted, he didn't testify or admit he was guilty, but some would argue that the evidence in that case was even more overwhelming. I everyone needs to let the Jury do its job.
- Although the jury has been instructed not to watch the media or read anything about this case throughout the trial, do they have a clue of some sort how people are gathering to hear the verdict? Have they seen the circus JVM is hosting in some plaza area that is adjacent(?) to the courthouse? Do they walk past all the signs and posters people bring?
They keep showing the exterior of the building and if the deliberation room has windows, they would have to have some idea of the frenzy awaiting their verdict.

Is it possible that the jurors are not struggling with M1 but with what is premeditated vs. Felony M1? That is a major part of the instructions.
Each one of them has to weigh in on if M1 is premeditated, felony or both. And, they may be having trouble with the Felony murder 1 aspect (I know I would).

You don't have to like the woman or even think she should have been acquitted to see that there is a cult like support for Travis who seemed to me like a egotistical douche. These Travis "supporters" have put on a show for the media and the public trying to depict him as perfect and her as the devil. I doubt that is an accurate depiction of either of them.
The Travis fans and friends have been ruthless and predatory in their efforts to try to shut down and even destroy anyone [see what they did to defense witnesses] who tries to offer a differing viewpoint or a more balanced reading of these events.

I have questions about his trying to label her a stalker when he was willingly continuing their relationship until his death. That was a deliberate lie he put out there about her. I also think it was possible that he was abusive toward her. Just reading his writings, listening to him and about him makes me think he could have been abusive to her. He was controlling. It doesn't matter that all his fans and friends say he was wonderful and would never hurt anyone - it's clear he lied to them about this other aspect of his life with her so they didn't really know him.
In any event, the appeal should be a field day for a good attorney. There are serious issues with the decisions and conduct of the judge, the prosecutor and the defense attorneys. Though this is Arizona where I never hold much hope for a fair trial or fair appeal for anyone.
This should never have even been a death penalty case. No death is pretty nor is it without some element of cruelty - it is killing someone after all - but the DP is supposed to be reserved for murders with special circumstances and aggravating factors. I don't see that here. Of course, again, it's Arizona.

But having said that, there were prosecution inferences I couldn't buy from the evidence offered so he didn't destroy her testimony as much as Travis fans thought he did.
But if you start from the proposition that everything she says is a lie (even before she took the stand) and that everything the prosecutor (who developed his own cult like following LOL!) proffered was the absolute truth including that all his inferences were accurate, then naturally you can't continence any debate in your mind.
I think the existence of the number of wounds and even the different weapons was a strong indication here was a battle going on between these two. It tells me whoever started it- that Travis wasn't going down and was still active. It doesn't show cruelty. Or maybe I should say it shouldn't be grounds for the death penalty. All killing is cruel unless you surreptitiously put someone to sleep.
During a physical fight bodies are usually in constant movement - there was a plausible explanation offered as to why there were so many back wounds that could have been consistent with self-defense with her under him. Her earlier denials and the crazy stories offered are irrelevant to an analysis of the scene. It isn't unusual for there to be denials before an admission.
So for me there were factors that gave me a reasonable doubt about the degree of guilt. Tehre was lots of superfluous and for me irrelevant factors discussed. All it takes is one reasonable doubt to reduce the verdict to a lesser degree. One reasonable doubt about any of the elements of the offenses charged.
I wasn't that impressed with the defense but then I was also not impressed with the prosecutor or the judge.
Again no one has said Travis deserved to die unless he instilled in her a reasonable fear for her life or safety at that time. Just like people have used everything on Arias' background to judge her and the case, I have also used Travis' background to judge whether it was possible that he placed her in fear for her life or safety that night.

The other thing though is about the death penalty, it has been puzzling me and I have been uneasy about the fact it is on the table and I didn't know why until reading some of the comments on the last page. I followed this case primarily because of the first thread which had 'quacking' in the title. The quacking between NG and JVM was not unusual, it was just a humorous description. Then I watched the live feed of the trial and saw how bat shit crazy JA is. It was the perfect storm: NG, JVM, and ballsy female defendent.
It spun out of control with constant coverage by every other talking head. Then they developed a nightly show called After Hours with mock juries, crime scene rebuilding and re-enactments, etc. Just when you thought it couldn't get worse, JVM hosts a festival type setting in a plaza next to the courtroom. She gave some man a chance to sing a song he wrote about JA. It might have all been in the spirit of "Justice for Travis" but it was not appropriate and I hope his family never grants an interview to HLN or CNN (or Fox for that matter).

- Death is worse than life in prison, period. Living on death row while going through the appeal process until she's put to death (approx 12 yrs) is the next best thing. And being on death row would be worse as far as isolation, activity, etc. In addition to a dismal, confined existence, you would be dealing with a tedious, red-taped process of trying to appeal your sentence (for those who decide to appeal).
When they get to resume the penalty phase, I do think she will end up with death penalty. Not because of her Fox interview following the guilty verdict, but because his murder seems to fit the 'heinous' criteria that's needed.
FWIW, I do think she bit off more than could chew with that Fox interview. She knew it would be attention grabbing but probably didn't realize the fullest repercussions. I bet she finally did have genuine meltdown once in the psych ward and wearing paper clothes. Her world has literally ended.

- My input here is not to argue about the moral implications of the death penalty. Jodi seems to create problems and drama to FEEL SOMETHING because she feels so dead inside. So if Jodi is not capable of feeling contrition or remorse (and she has shown NONE since her conviction), imposing the death penalty may not have an effect on her...especially as the state's anesthesia and needle is more humane than an electric chair, a noose or slow, painful death through cyanide poisoning, for example. Since Jodi is an attention hound and would likely flourish in a group environment in prison, perhaps living on death row where she is in solitary would be a way for her to experience a sort of punishment that would resonate.

I got the impression that the defense just decided to give up on presenting witnesses for this phase when the judge once again refused another request for mistrial and also didn't allow Nurmi and Wilmot to remove themselves from the case.
It almost had the feeling of them throwing up their hands to say they give up, but it had to be more strategic than that. Later whoever files the appeal can argue that the attorneys didn't provide a substantial enough case for the penalty phase.
Why were none of Jodi's family members going to testify in an effort to spare her life? That seems so unusual.

- If they can't come back in agreement then they bring a new jury but just for the penalty phase. They would basically pick up where this jury left off. The conviction stands and they decide life or death.
The tricky part would be finding potential jurors who haven't seen or know anything about this case. It's a small win for the defense and ultimately a bigger win for the prosecution. It's the taxpayers that will continue to lose.
The original jurors are again deliberating so it's not over yet.
- Arizona's system is almost unworkable. Most state's go straight to life without parole is a jury is hung on the death penalty. To retry that only that phase is a very burdensome process. Much of the evidence presented in the guilt phase must be presented again so that the jury is familiar with the underlying facts of the case.
- I did not really follow this as I was following the case about the athlete in South Africa who murdered his beautiful girlfriend claiming that someone had broken into their home when they live in a gated community with security, and it was the middle of the day.

- I think the judge did as well as she could. It was likely difficult because she wanted to be sure to leave no room for a mistrial, so she probably was over-accomodating of the defense, but I don't know what she could have done differently.
I'm against the death penalty even for nutjobs like Jodi. Life without parole. I think it's so strange that we put someone on trial for murder and then think that twelve ordinary citizens will have no problem determining that another human being should die.

- That's hopeful, R199. So I suppose that during jury selection, the candidates may claim impartiality when in fact, they have molded opinions, since so many people have been following this trial?

- R201, yes. That was my thought. Not that I think it's right, it's just a reality. All the manipulation and craftiness Jodi thought would save her could ultimately come back and do the exact opposite.

"Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said in a statement Thursday evening that Arias will no longer be permitted to do media interviews and will remain as a closed custody inmate in a county jail near Phoenix, Ariz."

- That's good, R203. At this time, does the sheriff make this call and not the judge because it's no longer her jurisdiction, and how did he arrive at that decision? As for Jodi's prior media interviews, my guess is that the judge allowed it because she was being lenient to avoid reasons for mistrial or even vindictive actions by Jodi.

- This entire circus has totally been Arias' own doing. She could've copped a plea for a life sentence from the beginning and instead she put the victim on trial and tried to paint herself as the victim instead. Now she deserves anything she gets, not only for what she did to Travis Alexander, but also for what she did to his family and friends with this travesty of a trial.
- Evidently the split was 8 to 4 in favor of death. There is video of the jurors walking out to a bus and its mostly a bunch of old white dudes.
