Do any of you get sick of the obsession with the Oscars on Datalounge or in gay culture in general?

I wondered if any of you felt it gets overdiscussed here or among gay men generally.

• I get a chuckle when some queen gets his panties in a twist over "Best Supporting Actress" from six decades ago. It's almost as good as the never-ending Judy-worship.

• No, I usually just skip them since I'm not very interested in the Oscars.

• I believe that these people must lead fairly lonely and desolate lives. They've created an imaginary world full of exciting movie stars and somehow have come to the conclusion that part of their OWN lives have somehow become invested with the life of the star in question. They may "love" friend Ben and "hate" AnnE because she represents some sort of threat. And to these people, these relationships with two dimensional images on a screen replace the healthy friendships and loving partnerships that the rest of us have with the real people in our lives.

• I have to agree with R13. There is a lot of latching on to other peoples lives as if it's their own. Think about it, no one latches on the the Paramedics awards, or the Nurses Awards or the Bowling awards. People who obsess over Hollywood are all suckers who don't know they are suckers. The original reason they made awards was to get public attention for people to come to the movies, not some altruistic reason based on talent and merit. 50 years later, they have generations of sheep blindly following. Gay men are the most blind of all.

• Do you get sick of "gay culture" in general? YES!

• I pay no attention to gay culture, unless we count jerking off at the urinals with other dudes. That's part of the "culture", right? The Oscars are for queens, or movie nerds. It's all a meaningless bore, nothing to be taken seriously. I hardly ever see new movies and couldn't care less about any of it.

• I don't get NEARLY as sick of talk of the Oscars as I do the Super Bowl, which is just downright obnoxious.

• Oscar talk is national,since everyone has seen the films; Tony talk is pretty much limited to the overbearing dilettantes of NYC who love dropping names as if they actually know these performers. It's laughable.

• OP, I've lost interest in the Oscars because I don't care much for the films being made. I don't generally like who is being pedaled as film stars. And so I do a good enough job of ignoring what's playing ... at the movies. I don't begrudge those who are still embracing today's films. And for anyone wanting to discuss the Oscars, I have no problem with it. It seems appropriate for this site. (And the timing is right.)
