Was the Jamaican Super Bowl commercial racist?
This was what everyone at work was talking about today. It's the talk of all office water coolers, not who won the game but "What was Volkswagen thinking?!" People were calling it blackface but with voices. Personally I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Everyone in my living room just sat there mouth agaped. What did you think? Did Volkswagen go too far?
- You're a weird one, OP.
- Link?
- How on Earth is it racist? If anything it implies that we should all aspire to be more like Jamaicans. (And hopefully not the ones who sing incessantly about killing shi-shi men.)
- Link? Did you not watch the game?
- OP can post from the future if he wants to.
- Fail
- The ad was discussed on NPR recently. The Jamaican tourism official certainly didn't regard it as racist, although she said that the accent was slightly off in representing Jamaican Creole.
- Op, I am embarrassed for you dude. You realize the game has not been played yet?
- >>Was the Jamaican Super Bowl commercial racist?
No.
- R8, I'm embarrassed for you. The game was played yesterday. Today is Monday. What country are you living in where you're behind?
- What game?
Let's go to IKEA
- More importantly is Jamaica homophobic?
- ha. It is Sunday morning here but even I know the game is tomorrow morning.
- Very racist. Worse than Jar Jar Binks, massa.
- LOL you blacks are so sensitive
