UN Panel: Israeli Settlements Are Illegal
The United Nations' first report on Israel's overall settlement policy describes it as a "creeping annexation" of territory that clearly violates the human rights of Palestinians, and calls for Israel to immediately stop further such construction.
The Palestinians also hinted that they could use the report as a basis for legal action toward a war crimes prosecution.

- Give Palestine their land back.
- The settlements are illegal, and a transparent attempt to create facts on the ground for either 1) future land concessions from the Palestinians; or 2) a huge fat settlement from the US taxpayer.
- "their land" my ass r2.
- We declare WAR on the United Nations.
John McCain and Miss Lindsey Graham
- Actually it is, R4.
- Nope, sorry, but there's no such thing as "Palestine."
- Of course they are illegal.
But we're not allowed to say that in America.
- This is a statement of fact.
Settling on occupied territory has been unlawful since the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949.
Israel is a party to that convention.
- R7 is why Americans are considered idiots. Genuine idiots.
- No, it's not, r6. And it doesn't matter how many times you say it. World history has always been a story of conquest and migration. Picking out an arbitray time and declaring that whoever lived there at that moment should have the land permanently for descendants, is ludicrous.
- "Nope, sorry, but there's no such thing as "Palestine." "
In other words it is a defense to depriving people of their identity on the ground that they have always been deprived of their identity because they have always been governed by imperial powers.
Is that what you are saying?
Because if it is, you are saying something morally abhorrent.

The following maps show just who is wiping who off of the map!

- R11 = Bibi
- R10, not even the right continent, honey, so please keep your prejudices for yourself.
- Why not just round up all the Palestinians, give each of them $100,000 and deport them to one of those backward fundie middle eastern countries that is always bitching about this issue and be rid of this problem once and for all?
- [quote] [R11] = Bibi
You mean r11 is correct.
- Hardly!
- "World history has always been a story of conquest and migration. Picking out an arbitrary time and declaring that whoever lived there at that moment should have the land permanently for descendants, is ludicrous."
It's not an arbitrary timeline. 1967 happened after 1949. In 1949 the nations of the world met in Geneva agreed that it was unlawful for occupying powers to settle on their occupied territories.
That is international law. A pact discussed and codified. There is nothing arbitrary or ludicrous about it.
And, rather than being ludicrous, it is both sensible and right to agree that conquest and genocide are evil.
- What's fascinating is that it is much easier to be critical of Israeli policies in Israel, where one can oppose the settling of occupied territories without being accused of being anti-Semitic, than it is to do so in the U.S..
- [quote]"World history has always been a story of conquest and migration. Picking out an arbitrary time and declaring that whoever lived there at that moment should have the land permanently for descendants, is ludicrous."
Except when they are defending their own land grab, or that of their underpaid Mexicans.
- How do the Palestinians expect to create a free and independent functioning democracy with Hamas in control of Gaza? Israel isn't the Palestinians only problem.
