Handcuffed Catholic Priest Forced to Call 911 for Help

The biggest surprise about the story is that Fr. Tom seems kind of cute. ------- A Catholic church priest in Springfield, Illinois has taken a leave of absence after being forced to call 911 for help getting out of handcuffs. No explanation has been given as to how the priest came to find himself bound with the handcuffs. Father Tom Donovan of St. Aloysius church made a 911 call last November to the Sangamon County Emergency Telephone System Department. In the call, the priest’s muffled voice is hear asking for help. On the call, Father Tom Donovan is heard saying, “I’m going to need help getting out before this becomes a medical emergency.” The slightly stunned and caught off guard 911 dispatcher replies, “You’re stuck in a pair of handcuffs?” Father Donovan goes on to explain the situation to the dispatcher. “I was playing with them and I need help getting out.” When police officers arrived at the church, they found Father Donovan alone in the front room of the rectory. Donovan has some sort of gag covering his mouth. The Diocese of Springfield spokeswoman, Kathie Sass spoke with the Illinois Times and stated that the leave of absence request by Father Donovan was accepted by Bishop Thomas Paprocki. She would not comment on where Donovan was or how he got stuck in handcuffs and a gag.
