Dl Fav Ashley Judd splits from hubby
Ashley Judd and Dario Franchitti are splitting after more than a decade of marriage.
"We have mutually decided to end our marriage. We'll always be family and continue to cherish our relationship based on the special love, integrity, and respect we have always enjoyed," Judd, 44, and Franchitti, 39, tell PEOPLE exclusively in a statement on Tuesday.

After being engaged for about two years, the Missing star and the racecar driver tied the knot in a highly private ceremony in Scotland in 2001.

- This makes me happy only because she always acts like she's so perfect.
- Wow!

- So I guess she's not running for the Senate against Mitch McConnell.
- Taking care of business now in preparation for her run for Senate in KY. When they dig for dirt on her she won't have to worry about "cheating husband" stories.
- I'm shocked they lasted 10 years. She's a little batshit, but I'll give her credit for holding it together that long. Her family is crazy.
- He looks greasy.
- Ashley Judd is a piece of work and I can't believe they survived that long. Probably long absences.
- Dario is UGLY. Dog face.
- How long before she balloons up to Wynona size?
- This won't benefit her Senate Run

- Will be interesting to see how she handles this. Divorce, show canceled, being an over 40 actress ... she'll either have a major fucking meltdown and will get her shit together.
- she had a show?
- [r13], see link.

- He'll be remarried and the new wife knocked up within six months.
- She's pretentious, but at least she's a bonafide progressive and supporter of equality. If she can beat McConnell I'll gladly vote for her.
- I'm a Kentuckian and I can tell you that Ashley Judd is NOT popular with many constituents because of her negative comments towards the coal industry. She doesn't have a snow ball's chance of beating McConnell. I've met and spoken with him, and hate the bastard, but I think I hate her more. She's a shitty actress and if I have to hear that false quote of hers about Kentucky girls and sweet tea and guns and UK basketball again I think I'll puke. I'm a proud democrat and even I don't want her to represent my state. I don't recall us having a democratic senator in my lifetime, anyway (though it's possible... I'm too lazy to google). We do have a democratic governor though.
- Of course you hate Ashley r17. You're not really progressive in the sense of blue state progressives. Red State Democrats are just basically DINOs. Here and there they may show their enlightened side, but on many issues, they're quiet conservative.
Coal is dying industry. It's killing out earth. People who have no other job skills cling to an industry that is obsolete.
Anyone who says they like McConnell more than someone who is trying to bring progressive ideas to a backward state like Kentucky should not be taken seriously.
- Ashley Judd should not be taken seriously.
U.S. senator?
Are you out of your fucking mind? A brainless twit like Ashley Judd making foreign and domestic policy decisions for this country.
I don't fucking think so!

- You're putting words in my mouth. I don't LIKE Ashley because I can't stand the bitch; it has nothing to do with politics. I'm loyal to my party and will vote for her even though I don't like her at all. I'd like to increase the democratic majority. And I'll tell you another thing; I'm one of the most progressive democrats I know and I'm also a Kentuckian, an Appalachian, and a coal miner's daughter, granddaughter, sister in law, niece, friend, and girlfriend, and I surely don't take kindly to outsiders speaking ill of my family and entire region's life source. I'll vote for Ashley Judd, but that doesn't mean I have to like her... And she won't win anyway.
- This is a huge error in judgement in the year prior to an election.

- She probably won't win. I seriously doubt that conservative Kentuckians will take her seriously. She is, afterall, a "Hollywood elite" in their eyes.
I happen to like Ashley. She comes from a dysfunctional family and tries to better herself by opening her mind. She's been dedicated to humanitarian causes for a very long time. She works with AIDS organizations, for women abroad, starving children. She even enrolled at Harvard University to broaden her knowledge.
I seriously do not get the Ashley Judd hate. I know know her and neither do any of you. These insults are juvenile.
- Would her mother vote for her? Her mother is a far right R as far as I know.
- She's actually doing fairly well in the polls against McConnell right now.
- [quote]I'm also a Kentuckian, an Appalachian, and a coal miner's daughter, granddaughter, sister in law, niece, friend, and girlfriend, and I surely don't take kindly to outsiders speaking ill of my family and entire region's life source.
My father owned an oil drilling company. Instead of getting all defensive about anyone "speaking ill of my family," I recognize the environmental damage caused by the petroleum industry and support better forms of energy. I'm sure if my politically progressive father were alive he would feel the same way.
Times change, and some of us change along with them.
- She would be as lost as Jean Carnahan.
Privately, Carnahan's own people said she didn't seem to have any clue about how a bill became law.
Remember her? She got elected simply because her husband died.
- So what, R26? You think those people don't exist in the Republican caucus?
- So What?
OMG!
No wonder this country is in such decline.
Hell, why not Lady Gaga or Chris Brown?
- r28 there have been many actors who have gone on to achieve political success, most notably Reagan. There have been former professional football players. Various people from various backgrounds.
What do you think about the current state of our gov't that is run by lobbyists, lawyers and businessmen? How well have they done?
Comparing Ashley to Gaga and Chris Brown? Have either of them shown an interest in the public good? Any of them enrolling at Harvard to get a better understand of public policies?
- I'm honestly more concerned about the children of Appalachia and the ridiculously high level of poverty that many of them face each and every day than I am in listening you preach to me about how I'm a bad democrat because I support the only industry that my region has in which to sustain itself. Before my daddy retired, he earned a good living in the mines, and we certainly didn't, ya know, have the money that an oil digging family would, but we never wanted for anything either. My sister and I are both college educated, but not everybody here gets that option. In fact, unless you've been to Appalachia and seen the squalor and poverty that many people still live in 50 years after LBJ declared the war on poverty here. I don't think you have any business condemning an industry (or its supporters) that keeps much of a region afloat.
- Yeah, yeah, we get that you just love that coal that has polluted the holy shit out of your state, R30.
You're a nasty piece of work.
- Your argument is illogical r30. You still support the coal industry and yet complain about the "ridiculous level of poverty." Basically you're saying the boat has sunk, but at least we still have a lifeboat. That way of thinking is myopic.
What part of obsolete do you not understand? Change is hard but it is necessary. Kentucky and other states that rely on coal need to transition to better energy producer. Retrain the people for jobs of the future. You're stuck in the past and you will be left behind. You are not doing your statesmen any favors when you continue to send backward thinking politicians to Congress.
- Ashley is right about the coal industry. It has raped and pillaged my area and ruined people's health and lives. Many of my family members have worked in the mines, and their bodies were sacrificed at the altar of the coal industry. Sure some dislike what she has said about coal, but many of us agree with her. More than you think.
As far as her personality goes: I don't care what she's like as a person. Politicians are fake, fake, fake. If a (fake) actress wants to be a (fake) politician I don't see what the big deal is. Professions aren't that dissimilar. I will support any Democrat who runs against him. (Maybe not Daniel Mongiardo. If he runs I may have to sit this one out.) If she gets the nomination she'll get my vote.
R18, I'm a socialist. A card carrying member of Democratic Socialists of America. Progressives do live in red states. I know your comments weren't directed at me, but I wanted to address what you wrote. It ain't easy being blue in a red state. I'm as blue as progressives who live in blue states. Ask me what I believe in, and you'll see.
R16
- Actually, I'd compare my state environmentally with any other. We certainly don't have the smog of California. Most of Kentucky's mines are deep mines and the least environmentally intrusive. There is some mountain top removal (aka strip mining... which I do NOT approve of), but for the most part, the mines we have here are NOT the environmentally destructive monsters that you're trying to paint them as. Besides, coal keeps the lights on... and I'd venture to guess that your electricity comes from coal (though I could be wrong and you could have wind or hydro powered electricity but I'm betting you don't). So, since you hate coal and it's SO horrible for the environment, why don't you go turn all the breakers off in your house and see how you like it without your computer to hide behind?
- R34, I live in a solar powered home. Thanks for playing.
- Coal isn't any part of anything on the west coast where I live except for those nasty charcoal briquets for bbq's but even those are being phased out for much better, nicer gas bbqs.
- If it means I'm not progressive because I support the coal industry, so be it. I was raised not to bite the hand that feeds me. I'm a democrat that supports education, equality, and yes, the environment, though I guess not to the extent that I'm supposed to, and I intend on voting for a woman that I thoroughly dislike with the knowledge that she will flounder if elected and do nothing for my state, and it's all out of loyalty to my party and because she is the lesser of two evils. Do I want Ashley Judd to be Kentucky's junior senator? Absolutely not, but I'd like McConnell to be re-elected even less.
- Bitch be crazy.
Dario
- No kids?
- You and Ashley Judd have a lot in common. Both forward thinking people from a state that is so rigidly conservative. Both share a deep love for their home state. The difference is that Ashley has been exposed to life outside of Kentucky.
Ashley, if she really wanted to, could have run for office in Los Angeles. Instead, she chose Kentucky. She sticks out like a sore thumb, but her heart is always close to it. Johnny Depp and George Clooney are both from Kentucky but you never hear them talk about the Blue Grass State. As if they sprung from nowhere. They are now Hollywood royalty and that elite class of actors could never admit to being from Indiana or Kentucky.
She's trying to better Kentucky. You may disagree with her views on coal, but there's no doubt her heart is in the right place. Her views are, too.
- To be entirely fair to Clooney I have seen him mention Kentucky a couple times in some interviews.
One example, which might be an insult depending on how you look at it, happened during one of those actor round table things they do for some award shows.
Christopher Plummer was there and he asked Charlize Theron why she didn't speak with an Afrikkans accent. She told him that the community that she lived in was very rural and there was barely any English spoken. So she learned English when she came to America at around 19 and there was no accent to break.
Clooney jumps in to say that he was from Kentucky and they also learned English at around 19. So maybe a little shame there but he seemed good-natured about it.
He actually mentioned being from Kentuvky a few times in the full interview.
- Well, he had to because his father was running for office. Even with George campaigning with his father, Senior still lost. I guess Kentucky does care much for Hollywood.
- George and Johnny haven't distanced themselves from Kentucky at all. I know people who know both. They still have family who live in their respective hometowns and still visit. When they do they manage to keep it as low key as possible. It is possible to fly under the radar if you want.
R16
- Hey R36, I live on the West Coast too and coal is about to become a large environmental controversy here. While we're burning less coal today, there are currently about five proposals for trains that will transport coal westward from where it is mined to the coast so it can be shipped to China for fuel.

- I'm from a small town in western Kentucky and coal is everything! There are huge blackened and dead areas where the coal industry has killed everything and at the edge of town there's a huge lake of still black water with nothing but the stumps of long dead trees breaking it's surface. It's both sad and creepy!
- [quote]Actually, I'd compare my state environmentally with any other. We certainly don't have the smog of California. R34, Kentucky is ranked 18th in pollution (California is 24th). If you really live in Kentucky (particularly eastern KY), you should already know about the water pollution brought on by MTR and other mining practices. It's a fucking mess. The water is becoming increasingly polluted and undrinkable.
A couple of months ago, our idiot Senator Rand Paul got called out on his bullshit for criticizing Judd's position on coal. He claimed coal was the state's top industry - it isn't. It's actually 13th.
Coal has provided jobs for years, and continues to do so, but there are other alternatives that would provide safer and cleaner energy. They would also provide jobs. Time to pull your head out of the coal and realize the coal industry isn't on your side.
And btw, you must be really young if you can't remember KY's last Democratic senator. Wendell Ford is a legendary politician from this state who served for 25 years and retired in 1999.
- Dario has a warm, moist inviting 5 speed turbocharged anus
- While I am surprised ashley and dario remained together so long, I am also very surprised about their split. Ashley really seem to have enjoyed being the leading indy race car driver's wife. I have a feeling he got kidded a lot about being her husband.
- Why are people bitching? Surely Ashley Judd can't be worse than Rand Paul and Mitch McConnell?!
- OP, she's hardly a DL fave, most people on here hate her, justifiably.
- Is it true that when on movie sets Ashley has this odd ritual of handing out stones to people she wants to talk to? If you don't have a stone from her, you can't talk to her??
- Look I hate coal too but think how you would feel if your job was threatened. These people are not skilled they are just willing. I feel for them cuz they bet the house on the loser. Now what do we do for them? Training programs, relo packages, hell these people are too ignorant or brainwashed to vote for supporting these programs. Too much gubment and all. It's a dilemma for sure.
- Would your coal-mining relatives rather work underground, waiting for the walls or their lungs to collapse or would they want to be out in the sunshine, retrofitting windows or installing solar panels? Your economy sucks b/c the coal industry sucks.
Paraphrased from a Bill Maher guest, who I am now googling.
- His movie is Carbon Nation

- This doesn't surprise me.
When Franchitti wins a race, during the post race hoopla, when they know the cameras are on them, they seemed to be going through the motions with no chemistry between them.
After a race he won (iirc, it may have been the first time he won the Indianapolis 500) Judd threw her arms around him and he barely acknowledged her.

- Industrial hemp would boost the economy so much. I wish we could get that going here. And if this state legalized medical marijuana it would really get things on track. Throw in some other options folks suggestions and people could get out under the thumb of coal.

This. I've seen this phenomenon a lot.
I wonder if the split partially had to do with him wanting children. In addition to her pretentiousness, she strikes me as being remarkably self-absorbed. Remember those stories from the people who were with her on an Africa aid trip? Someone linked the article here on a Judd thread a year or two ago. She requested an acupuncturist for some issues she was having. As though one would be available out in the bush. They reported that the trip became more about Judd either whining about something or talking incessantly about herself. This is hard on any relationship and could have been enough for a split, but it doesn't bode well for having a family.
I am and I'm not surprised by her interest in politics. Not surprised because she has seemed politically aware and because, as a narcissist, it's probably an outlet she craves where she can demonstrate her intelligence and powers in another arena. She can put her $20 vocabulary to better use there. And I am surprised because she possesses so many qualities that could really turn off a constituency, like the tendency to use $20 words when simpler ones will do. She's not down to earth enough. Female politicians have a hard enough time as it is, but if they present themselves as being above it all, they are in for harder time. the self-awareness is lacking. Acupuncture on an African aid trip?
- She had a fling with Bono's wife a few years ago.
- Story I read about here on DL worth repeating. Apparently, it made the NY Post but had to be cleaned up for publication. I can't remember the film, but for some reason Ashley grew to hate the screen writer, a 50 something woman. During downtime, she typed something like "Linda has a dry vagina and spends her evenings rearranging her spice rack." on a computer on set. Apparently, she didn't know that it was on a network that displayed entries on all of the other screens on set. So everyone read it and talked about it. Ironic now that Ashley's heading toward the menopausal cliff herself.
