FaNNtine- Have we seen any advance shots of Nicole Kidman as Grace Kelly? I don't see it looking at her now.
- and the boogie woogie flu
- In a perfect world, the cast of Modern Family will not win anything tonight.
Those two women are insufferable.
- I eat shit.

- Marion for the win!
The%20Marion%20Cotillard%20troll%20%28tm%29
- Oh dear, The Steep Troll ruined my tea.
- Anyone care how I voted?
- Well I can't watch since I don't have cable tv. Wonder why NBC or CBS isn't airing this.
- Marion Cotillard is also sick, but she still looked good. Marion didn't want to shake hands with Guiliana DePandi on the red carpet interview for E!
- Nice to see Goop, er, Claire Danes show up.
- R8 just watch it online.
http://www.ilive.to/view/44225/
- Let the liquor flow! This is the last awards show pre Oscars where there is booze in the mix.
Do the BAFTAS provide adult beverages?
- CNN is doing Red Carpet.
- Guilana, please ask Hugh about his flop Movie 43
- Thanks R11.
R8
- Is Sigourney fat or is it the dress? I thought she was pregnant at first.
- Is this woman's voiceover for REAL? WHAT THE FUCK? Argo find your seat?
- Did they really just say, "Hey Ben Affleck, Argofind your seat?"
- Neil Patrick Harris is all alone.
- Did Helen Hunt have lots of work?
- Sophia Vergara has HUGE tits.
- R18 It's a joke from the movie.
- How many Botox injections has Nicole Kidman had in her forehead?
- And just like that I don't hate Sophia Vergara anymore. That was funny and she seemed really sweet. I don't ever need to see her on another commercial though.
- Definitely R20 her forehead is fucked up solid, since the GG's.
Does no-one eat the food?
- Liev Schreiber looks so hot.
- I laughed because everyone looked as confused as I felt when Timberfake walked out.
- And the actor goes to Melissa Leo...I mean Anne

- R24, I thought Sophia was genuinely funny during her red carpet interview on E! Julie Bowen, on the other hand, always seems like she's trying too hard.
- where is the show?! argh it's not on my tv
- A little long but a much better speech that at the golden globes. She sounded more sincere.
- Ok I actually liked AnnE's acceptance speech accept for the "my cast".
Still feel Sally was robbed
Thanks r11 for the link

Why are their 2 threads?
- wow.. less than enthusiastic response from the audience for Anne's win.
Julianne Moore..... seriously
- Jennifer Lawrence has moon face. And sloppy posture.
Anne was great. She's clearly reigned it in, and she looked smashing as usual. She's destined to be one of the future greats, and clear off the mantle, because she's winning the oscar.
- Russell Crowe's presence in the film makes that impossible R40
- I just realized no more suffering through any 30 Rock wins after tonight.
- I always wonder if movie actors HATE having to be bothered sitting through the presentation of the TV categories.
- Pancake boobs.
- R43 - She does not have moon face
- I just love Sophia.
- Fucking Fey. I hope she falls on her ass.
- I sort of love Tina for still harping on the Lena stuff.
- John Goodman looks awful.
- In real life, Sophia Vergara does not have an accent.
- Helen Lawson is getting the Lifetime Sticking Around Award.
- [quote]I just realized no more suffering through any 30 Rock wins after tonight.
Won't they still be eligible next year for this season?
- R46, movie actors watch television and are fans of tv people like the rest of us.
- thanks r41
- They're all getting sloshed in the audience.
- Noah Wyle looked cute again.
- Modern Family wins again!
These jokes are bombing. Big Bang Ratings? wah-wah
- Oh no the annoying cast. Of course job has to get right in camers frame.
Bbt got robbed. All the other shows dislike them.
- Who watches Modern Family anymore?
- Lena wasn't even nominated
- I love Tina Fey, but how the hell did she beat Amy Poehler? Fey isn't a good actress. Poehler has become a great actress. What gives? Were they just honoring 30 Rock?
- Oh, fuck! Here they go!!
- What's with some of the Tina hate on here? She's HILARIOUS on 30 Rock; even when show veers a little off course she nails it.
Amy will win next year.
- Honoring 30 Rock since they voted for Modern Family in ensemble, r64.
Tina is great but it is a damn shame that Amy hasn't won a single thing for Parks & Rec, not even a golden globe. She is amazing and the fourth season was her best season yet.
- [quote]I love Tina Fey, but how the hell did she beat Amy Poehler?
I'd be willing to bet once Fey is completely out of the way (because her show's going off the air), the voters will start to make it up to Poehler by giving her the award every year till her show goes off, too.
- Julianne Moore, seriously.
- Julianne Moore seriously won!!
- Julianne looks so beautiful.
-
Julianne needs to be shot for picking that dress.
The bodice is a nightmare and needs to be altered asap
- Hideous dress on Julianne
- This was the first time I've ever seen Julianne Moore win anything. She just always seems to be one of those actors who's eternally nominated but never wins. Good for her.
- R72 pancakes
- Thank God Kevin Costner didn't show up.
- What the hell is Rose Byne wearing? A shower curtain?
- Why are there TWO "official" threads??
- James Marsden looks stunning.
- Caster again
- Justin Timberlake looks different.
- Why do they keep showing Busy Phillips' tweets?
- R81 Looks like he dyed his hair.
- Wonder if MTM will be there.
- Let's stay. At this thread
- It's the best Timberlake has looked.
- Speaking of MTM, what is the status of her eyesight? I read that she was going blind.
- Geez, Dick Van Dyke looks amazing. How old is he? 75? 80?
- He looks good for a 90 year old man
- Are Dick Van Dyke's teeth fake?
- I wonder if Dick watches 30 Rock, or if it is one of the current comedies that he "doesn't get"?
- Dear Oscar producers: please, for the love of God, choose a different fucking song for the Les Miserables clip reel.
Thank you.

- [quote]accept for the "my cast".
Oh, DEAR!!!
- The Modern Family haters have really become the most annoying trolls on DL...perhaps ever.
- So 2 threads??
Love Dick Van Dyke!!!!
- For fuck sake, he's spry and energetic for 87! He looks a good 20 years younger and better than Robert De Niro.
- Julianne Moore needs to put a bra on it.
- I am so offended. Shouldn't his name be read politically correct as "Penis Van Lesbian"?
- Damn, Dick looks good!
- His son Barry was sex on a stick.
- Alec Baldwins' young wife needs to get him to a professional colorist stat!
Dick Van Dyke looks good and energetic. His wife looks like Julia Sweeney.
- Modern family sucks, deal with it.
Crap.
- Loved his joke about the cockney accent!
- Sadly I don't the reason Mary stayed away was because of the flu
- R74 What the fuck are you talking about? She's won every single award she's been nominated for (for her Sarah Palin role.) Emmy, Golden Globe, SAG. What more can she win?
- I wanna know Dick Van Dyke's secret. In his 80's and could easily pass for 20 years younger.
- God. Not Bryan Cranston. Again.
- [quote]What the fuck are you talking about? She's won every single award she's been nominated for (for her Sarah Palin role.) Emmy, Golden Globe, SAG. What more can she win?
Bullshit. Julianne was once nominated for TWO Oscars in one year and lost both. It's SERIOUSLY time that she won one.
- I guess alcohol preserves well, R106.
- BRYAN CRANSTON!!!!!!!!
- Just put on a happy face, R106!
D.V.D
- Cranston's wife looks exactly lie Barbara Hershey!
- D.VD stopped drinking in his 40s. I'd say that's the secret of looking so youthful.
- R108, I think they're saying she has won multiple awards for Game Change this year, pretty much everything she's been up for.
- DVK relentless cheerfulness wears me the fuck out.
- Goop won. God.
- John Goodman didn't seem to impressed with Claire just now.
- OMG! Is THAT Julianna's husband??
Holy hell!!
Wow!
- Uh oh. Goop used "my cast". AnnE is seEthinG.
- Oh dear where is Hugh Dancy? I miss his boredom.
My cast. Bleh.
Julianne Margueleisesese and her cute hubby..shout out.
- "My cast, my brilliant cast." Gag. Just. Stop. Saying. That.
- Claire Danes, her shrill voice and manic mannerism, makes me cringe. I'd rather watch a Gieco commercial.
- I have never watched an episode of 30 Rock. I don't even know what station its on. Same with Breaking Bad. Steve Buscemi should have won.
- Chastain looks amazing. Truly stunning in that dress.
- Dick Van Dyke is 87?? Wow, he is amazing. Always loved him - a good performer with a great sense of humor.
Anonymous
- The SAG voters seem to be voting on sentiment rather than talen. Cranston, last season of his show, Baldwin, last season of his show. Yet Jon Hamm is nominated year after year and nothing. His characterization of Don Draper is unique.
We've seen the same stuff from Cranston & Baldwin for years now.
- Whoever's doing the voiceover keeps fucking up. First, the bad Argo joke, then mispronouncing names, and now "Jessica Chast...ain"
- Amy Poehler and Neil Patrick Harris have had the only decent intro so far. So fab.
- Why does Juliana keep getting nominated for the Good Wife. She is nothing special on that.
Anonymous
- "Claire Danes, her shrill voice and manic mannerism, makes me cringe."
Though her voice is deeply unpleasant, you couldn't qualify it as "shrill".
- I guess Jon Hamm will win when Mad Men is in its last season.
Anonymous
- Who is Jessica Chastain? Why is she suddenly popular? Never heard of her before The Help and now she's everywhere.
- R129 - Agreed - I don't see why she's so praised in that role.
- R105, I guess the fact I don't watch award shows very much informed my previous post. Maybe she has won a lot more than I realized and I just missed it. But as I said, good for her. She's no doubt one of the best actresses we have right now.
R74
- Love Anne Hathaway's dress, OMG!
- I heart that first day of school Subaru commercial
Did Dancy have babysitting duty tonight?
Claire Daines was teleporting Jodie Foster's speech
- Crap!! Jessica Lange should have won!
- Me either R123
kcguy
- The SAG in memorium segment was more beautiful than TCM's.
- Juliana already has her award... that beautiful husband!
- I've never seen a single, one of those shows.
Damn, I'm lame.
Or maybe the shows are.....
- Downton Abbey Best Cast. What's the chaffeur doing there?
- This is rather slow going. Everyone seemed unhappy that Dowton Abby won, but that scottish lady was funny.
- I really think it's tacky that they always do a close-up of someone just after they've lost.
- wait and watch the rest of the season r142. then you'll know what he's doing there.
- Sally is radiant this evening.
- The former chauffeur, now Sybil's husband, is being groomed to take over as the male lead.
Actor's name is Allen Leech, he's super-cute, and it's rumored that he's gay.
- Deniro is kind of a prat these days.
- Strange, but I'm happy to see Chris Tucker again. He disappeared for the last 10 years or more.
I wonder why? And how did he get cast in Silver Linings after all these years?
- He is gay.
- God Armageddon must be upon us because I actually liked AnnE tonight. Like someone else said she has definitely reined it in. So much better than her speech at the Globes, and I like what she's wearing tonight too (Valli). She didn't out-Goop the Goopster - Gwynnie still holds the most insufferable award.
Sue me bu I'm back (temporarily) on the AnnE train.
- In the category of Best Actress, they allowed the word Asshole to be aired.
- Famewhore Jennifer Westveldt has an uncanny ability to sneak her way into every shot her boyfriend is featured in.
- They said that Julianne Moore has been nominated 10 times for a SAG Award and this is the first time she's won. And of course she's never won an Oscar in 4 tries and is 0 for 3 at the BAFTAs. She does seem to go home empty-handed a lot.
- JENNIFER LAWRENCE!!!!!!!
- I didn't catch it. How did Jess Chastain react?
Ben and Jen are so cute. I hope he wins tonight.
- Any chance Jennifer Lawrence might win? Please?
Why wasn't Amy Adams nominated? I guess my hopes of her winning the Oscar aren't very rational.
- Go J-Law!
- He is, r147? Best news I've heard all night!
- Both Jennifer Lawrence and Anne Hathaway gave much better speeches than at the Golden Globes, where they were both insufferable.
- I just read that Allen Leech played Marcus Agrippa in the show Rome. I now remember him being on there. He was quite hot and still is.
- R153 She is the compost heap upon which Hamm's career survives and she is not going to let anyone forget it.
- Sally Field looks amazing. Good genes or good docs?
- "Famewhore Jennifer Westveldt has an uncanny ability to sneak her way into every shot her boyfriend is featured in."
Probably because she sits right next to him, Einstein?!
- Did Lawrence fall down or just trip on the way to the stage? MC got wide-eyed when she saw it.
- anneE and JenLaw both reined it in. Oscar is theirs to lose.
- JL so does not deseve it. Chastain was robbed.
- I'm not crazy about Chasteen, actually that film bothers me.
- TVLIne's Michael Ausiello is saying something similar, R167, except he believes Naomi Watts should be winning all the awards.
- R164 and yet no other actor's spouse/partner has done that all evening. Mmmm...
- She is so gracious. AnnE could take a few lessons.
- [quote]JL so does not deseve it. Chastain was robbed.
No way! Honestly, why is Chastain even nominated? I don't get it. I actually LOVE her, and was even rooting for her to win The Oscar for The Help, but her role in ZDT is underwhelming. She's perfectly good in it, but the role only requires good. There's nothing about it that really showcases the actor.
- I guess Hollywood got to Jennifer L after all, she looks impossibly thin and has lost all her boobage.
- God. DDL must be auditioning to be Bono 2.0.
Shut the fuck up already.
- Who was DDL referring to "Joaquin"? Is it Joaquin Phoenix? Was he even nominated for a SAG?
- And Ben wins again!!
- [quote]I guess Hollywood got to Jennifer L after all, she looks impossibly thin and has lost all her boobage.
She has pneumonia!
- I've noticed it about Hamm's gf too, she does seem to hang on him a lot at these events. Makes you wonder about all those rumors about him cheating on her. Insecurity can be a real bitch.
- Argo? Seriously??
- Another "fuck you" to the Academy???
- Tate Donovan!
- I gasped for a moment because I actually thought JL was losing half her dress as she ascended the stairs.
- Finally!
- Shout out to Jen.
I heart them.
- Claire Danes' acceptance speech was beyond awkward and self-absorbed.
- God that was boring.
- It looked like J. Law pulled her dress too high while trying to walk, accidentally showing her thighs. She looked in shock.
- The nominating committee of the Academy awards should all be fired.
- Omg, where's Tate Donovan??
- Ben is the new Taylor Swift
- The notion that "Argo" has the best cast despite not winning any acting awards is ridiculous.
- Argo is nominated for BP at the Oscars, so how would this be a FUCK YOU to the Academy? How is Best Ensemble even anywhere near the same as the Best Director category?
- How on earth did ARGO win? It wasn't that great.
- Argo has the biggest cast and they usually always win. Ben is not funny.
- Glad Chastain didn't win, her performance wasn't that strong in ZDT.
- I've heard about those rumors firsthand, R178. But I think it's more than that. This is a woman with some serious brass balls. She made a movie with the entire cast of Bridesmaids and cast HERSELF in the lead role.
- Can someone please explain the "Argo" win? I'm actually in shock.
- Argo will win best picture because it is the safe choice.
- R191 It's an ensemble award. It's based on how all of the cast worked together. All of the other acting awards are for individuals.
- I think it's going to be Lincoln vs SLP for the Oscar. For some reason, the cast for Silver Linings nominated for the SAG was only 5. No Julia Stiles?
Argo had the biggest cast, and this was SAGs way of honoring it.
- Wtf is going on? Ben gets standing ovations like he's cured cancer. Being "snubbed" is the best thing that ever happened to him. I hope the actors/famewhores are doing it for PC show and something else wins best picture at oscars.
- I wonder if Spielberg is pissed at this turn of events and wishes Affleck HAD gotten that BD nod. Maybe now he wouldn't be benefiting from the collective wave of sympathy all the voters appear to feel after he was snubbed by those evil bitches in the Academy.
Kidding%20but%20only%20by%20half
- R196 And that movie was dreadful and served only to showcase her new facial surgery to the detriment of the picture and all of those other actors. She is beyond vile.
- Did Hal Holbrook remarry? He was wearing a wedding band. If so, how can a man of his age remarry?
Was that Eric Roberts sitting near Alfie Woodward? I couldnt' tell he wasn't trying to move in on her moment like his sister would have.
Women need to realize that stick thin does not age well. Put on a few pounds as you get older, it will keep you looking younger. Helen Hunt I'm talking to you.
I'm tired of the pin straight, scissor haircut.
Yeah, I know I'm behind
- The directors branch of the academy actually showed some taste choosing Zeitlin and Haneke over Affleck. Inspired noms and much more deserving than the solid but nothing special work in Argo.
Of course Clooney and Affleck are acting like cry-babies and the rest of the industry is voting because poor oscar winner Ben Affleck was snubbed by those mean, old directors.
Affleck will win the DGA and then Argo will become the first BP to win out of pity. A shame since this was the most exciting oscar race in ages.
- Does anyone else think that Affleck has been on coke through most of these award shoes lately? He definitely has the manic, twitchy, bug-eyed energy going, and he's never really acted like that before.
- Daniel Day-Lewis has tinymeat.
- R201 Ben's directing was really good and he got snubbed for it. The academy was/is nominating/handing out hack awards. So obvious even the actors noticed it.
- R203 196 - why does Hamm stay with her you think? Out of loyalty? she definitely won't be the one to walk away it will have to be him, if it ever happens
- Well....Argo has won the Golden Globe, the Producers Guild Award, and now the SAG award. There is obviously a huge moevement now in the guilds in Argo's favor. If Ben wins the Director's Guild award, I think Lincoln is set to be overthrown as the favorite. There really does seem to be a backlash against the Academy for overlooking Ben with a nomination for Best Director
- ARGO for Best Picture over SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK and LINCOLN? C'mon now!
- Ben: God bless you? Are you sure you're not running for office?
- I'm a big fan of Argo, but I've got a serious case of backlash going against the backlash. Enough is enough, people. He wasn't nominated for Best Director. Big fucking deal. Stop giving him every other award to soothe his ego.
- [quote] why does Hamm stay with her you think
Because he doesn't care about looks.
- Silver Linings has NO chance for the Oscar as Best Pic. It's only possible award is Lawrence, and that's far from being a done deal.
It's between ARGO and LINCOLN now.
- R201 Lincoln was the most turgid, tedious overlong piece of crap I have seen in a long time.
- [quote]Does anyone else think that Affleck has been on coke through most of these award shoes lately? He definitely has the manic, twitchy, bug-eyed energy going, and he's never really acted like that before.
Yes, I noticed that, I found that very disturbing.
- [quote]I hope the actors/famewhores are doing it for PC show and something else wins best picture at oscars.
[quote]Affleck will win the DGA and then Argo will become the first BP to win out of pity.
Though I've nothing against Affleck personally, I really hope "Argo" does not prevail at the Oscars. To think it would win only because people feel "sorry" for him because he wasn't nominated for director is just insane to me. Is he really that well-liked in the industry? As someone else noted (in another thread), it's also an insult to the other directors who were nominated as if to suggest they were not as worthy as Affleck.
- Fucking stupid as far as I'm concerned. And I've always liked him but after filming this piece of propaganda...him and Bigalow, no thanks.
- After Lincoln, Argo is the safest choice out of the nominees. It is so obvious that these people are voting for Affleck out of sympathy. Ridiculous!
And in what world is Michael Haneke a hack?
- [quote]Wtf is going on? Ben gets standing ovations like he's cured cancer.
It's like high school, isn't it?
- Helen Hunt wasn't robbed by Anne Hathaway, she was robbed by the studio that put her in the supporting category. "The Sessions" is a two person piece.
Julianne Moore's dress was atrocious.
Claire Danes over Jessica Lange is just indefensible.
- The voting for the Critics Choice and Golden Globes was over BEFORE the Academy snub to Affleck.
The SAGs are the first award that might have been influenced by that.
- Argo = Apollo 13 (won pretty much every award, including the SAG Award for Best Ensemble Cast)
Les Miserables = Braveheart (won the Best Picture Oscar)
I'd bet money on it.
Lynn%20Stairmaster
- [quote]Stop giving him every other award to soothe his ego.
Which is really all these wins boil down to.
- Hamm most likely will disappear after Mad Men ends.
- [quote]Daniel Day-Lewis has tinymeat.
Who knew Harvey Weinstein posts on DL?
- Les Miserables is NOT winning the Oscar. It is TERRIBLE. It was nominated out of hype, and now that people have seen it, they'd just rather act like it's not there.
Anne Hathaway benefits in that her role is over just before people turn the movie off.
- [quote]It looked like J. Law pulled her dress too high while trying to walk, accidentally showing
Really, I thought Jude Law looked fine as he walked on. And referring to Brit men as "she" is just not right. They're Brits, they can't help being a trifle fey.
- Wake up people, Lincoln is no longer the frontrunner. The industry is obviously not behind the movie. They are happy with just DDL winning. Spielberg and the movie (BP awards) have won nothing so far this awards season, not a thing.
It seemed the actors at least were behind SLP with the nominations in the 4 acting categories, and surprise noms like editing and director, but now with this Argo pity-sweep I now believe that it'll become the first pic since Driving Miss Daisy to win without a director nom.
Affleck and Clooney will become two-time oscar winners on the 24th.
- "Mad Men" fell out of fashion, which has nothing to do with whether or not it has quality.
The last season was difficult and also light years ahead of a lot of dreck on TV, including "Homeland." (And I enjoy "Homeland.")
- Hugh, Damian, Dick Van Dyke--too much pancake too dark.
- Clooney carries a lot of influence with Oscar voters. He is a producer for ARGO.
I thought DDL speech was rather sweet and rather odd. Why in the world did he mention Leo De Caprio? I know they worked together in Gangs of NY, but WTF kind of advice could Leo give him about making Lincoln.
- [quote][R201] Lincoln was the most turgid, tedious overlong piece of crap I have seen in a long time.
I was not, give me a break.
- Ben has only directed a couple of movies, how can he be better than Spieberg?
- [quote]Silver Linings has NO chance for the Oscar as Best Pic.
Yes it does, don't be ridiculous!
- R233 Weinstein was priming the pumps for Leo to get some nomms for for Django. Too bad Leo couldn't decide on a through line for his character.
- [quote]Les Miserables is NOT winning the Oscar. It is TERRIBLE. It was nominated out of hype, and now that people have seen it, they'd just rather act like it's not there.
It is winning, STOP saying that!
- r233 Leo somehow was involved in DDL getting cast in the movie. There was a story about how he called DDL personally after he's met with Spielberg, who was having a hard time getting DDL to commit. Not sure of the details its probably easy to google.
- R224, give it up, Lynn Stairmaster. LES MIZ is only going home with one Oscar -- Supporting Actress. BRAVEHEART also got Director, Screenplay, and Editing nods, LES MIZ didn't. And if there were only 5 slots open for Best Picture, LES MIZ wouldn't have made the cut.
- Why does Hollywood constantly kiss up to Ben Afflecks and George Clooney? Clooney is just an average actor who gets nominated every year, because of his looks!
HONESTLY!
- R102 proves my point.
- Les Miserables got a huge round of applause tonight, R228/R240. You're obviously not a part of the Holywood community. They love it.
Apollo 13 won the Golden Globe, the PGA, the DGA and the SAG Award for Best Ensemble. It still lost to Braveheart as Best Picture at the Oscars.
Same thing could happen to Argo vs Les Miserables.
Lynn%20Stairmaster
- [quote]R105, I guess the fact I don't watch award shows very much informed my previous post.
And the fact that you didn't bother reading R105's post where Moore's Sarah Palin role was clearly referenced.
- What an ego to think he "deserved" to be nominated for director when you could say the same about Tom Hooper, Bigelow, etc. Beasts of the S... whatever I'm not crazy about, but Amour was a masterpiece and with 10 nominated movies who is to say Argo would have made the cut if it was 5.
- LES MISERABLES IS GOING TO WIN!
- "Though I've nothing against Affleck personally, I really hope "Argo" does not prevail at the Oscars. To think it would win only because people feel "sorry" for him because he wasn't nominated for director is just insane to me."
What if they are voting for Argo because they think its a good movie?
- [quote]Did Hal Holbrook remarry? He was wearing a wedding band. If so, how can a man of his age remarry?
There's no upper age limit. And he doesn't need parental consent.
- I think someone is posting as Lynn Stairmaster as a parody. No one could be so obtuse about Les Miserables this late in the game.
- R241 - Clooney gets quality films made, and has a rep for being one of the nicest people in Hollywood.
- My god, the guilds are sabotaging the Academy.
Damn! Damn! Damn! For once I thought the Academy got it right by going against the tide. But now the Academy might be bully into voting for Argo as best picture.
Don't bend over AMPAS!!!! Give BP to something worthy like Amour or BOTSW.
Give the guilds the middle finger!
- Argo is NOT winning the Oscar, so get over it.
- [quote]Claire Danes over Jessica Lange is just indefensible.
I agree. Lange this year acted circles around her competitors, but she did win last year and she stars in a genre (horror/sci-fi) that doesn't win a lot of accolades among the acting community. Plus, AHS: Asylum has been polarizing. The writing was on the wall when nobody else but Lange received a nomination.
- Now I'm glad Affleck wasn't nominated. He won't be in the record books as a nominee. No one remembers guild awards.
- [quote]And the fact that you didn't bother reading R105's post where Moore's Sarah Palin role was clearly referenced.
And this invalidates what I said how, R244? I don't watch a lot of award shows, so no matter what role JM has been nominated for, I most likely wasn't watching the ceremony to see her win (or lose, whichever the case may be).
If you're trying to pick a fight, please pick one that makes sense.
- That might be true r247, but some of us have been noticing the ridiculous standing Os he's benn getting from many people who happen to be Ampas members. I really thought SLP could be the Oscar frontrunner on account of all its noms in the major categories.
- I'm not being obtuse. This is a wacko awards season, obviously. The Hollywood community LOVES Les Miserables. It's not outside the realm of possibility that it could end up snatching the Best Picture statuette on Oscar night.
Lynn%20Stairmaster
- Ben is now unstoppable. Suck it up haters!
- [quote]Apollo 13 won the Golden Globe, the PGA, the DGA and the SAG Award for Best Ensemble. It still lost to Braveheart as Best Picture at the Oscars.
[quote]Same thing could happen to Argo vs Les Miserables.
Did you not read my post? Yes, BRAVEHEART lost SAG, but it was also nominated for Director, Screenplay, and Film Editing, good indicators that a movie has a chance at Best Picture. LES MIZ missed out on those three awards. Its chances are zilch. It only got a Best Picture nomination because there are now 5-10 slots.
- How can Argo win Best Picture without Best Director or any lead actor nominations? Preposterous!
- Yeah, r251. They are trying to make it seem like the directors got it wrong. Poor Zeitlin and Haneke now are hacks (WTF?) because for once some members of the academy tried to think outside the box and reward what they thought were the best directors of the year.
But Argo still has an uphill battle. What more can it win on oscar night? Screenplay should go to Kushner. Editing? Zero Dark Thirthy should win hands down, though the same guy was the editor for Argo. I can't see it winning BP with just two wins, that doesn't happen anymore. Crash had three but Haggis was nominated for director.
- Hollywood didn't want a beautiful gay movie to win, that's why Crash won.
- Wow, Claire Dane's bugs the shit out of me.
- What point is that, R242?
- Did Justin Timberlake shave down his nose? He does look different.
- Timberlake's hair looked awesome, the best it ever has.
But it didn't seem his.
Hairpiece?
- Justin must use some very strong straightening treatments on his hair to get rid of the curl.
- Who dressed Rose Byrne? Holy Jesus, that was horrible. Somebody should be fired.
- Justine Timberflake is an actor?
Who knew?
- The worst I saw was Sigourney Weaver. Black lace pillow case.
- I've yet to comment on Bradley Cooper in the numerous threads on him, but I've noticed he doesn't seem to have a sense of humor, or he's just not gracious. I can't put my finger on it.
- I wonder if Bradley Cooper is uncomfortable with fame because everyone thinks he is gay? I get a sleazy vibe from him. He is always sweaty and with his mom.
- Timberlake should thank his hair stylist for making him look really good.
- You know, R206, I hadn't been thinking coke exactly, but that would explain his appearance tonight. Dilated pupils, sallow-looking skin and kind of puffy eyes--something was really weird. I noticed on E! during some of the red carpet stuff, he kept whispering to Jennifer Garner things that she seemed to process and then sort of move on from. Contrast that to the GGs a couple weeks ago where I thought he had never looked hotter and fresh-faced.
- Wow Justin finally looks like a grown up. Good for him. I like his acting.
- Ben definitely has the coke buzz. And you can tell he has a hair piece from the hairs going in odd directions at the forehead line.
- Agree R231. I think it was the long hiatus between Seasons 4 & 5. AMC shot themselves in the foot haggling with Matthew Weiner. The quality is still there, of course.
Whenever I see clips from Homeland, I think, "That looks like some jacked up shit." Emphasis on shit.
- I'm with R222... in fact, turned off the feed and quit watching after that. In any universe where that obnoxious starlet Claire fuckin' Danes can beat Jessica Lange for anything... done.
(I'd give it to Lange for her Name Game number alone).
- Justin got himself a relaxer
- "They are trying to make it seem like the directors got it wrong. Poor Zeitlin and Haneke now are hacks (WTF?)"
Exactly. Why is this a snub? Argo is my favorite American movie of the year, but I can't fault the Academy for preferring the five directors they nominated, all of whom are respectable choices, above all Zeitlin and Haneke, who deserve the recognition even more than Spielberg and Russell in my opinion. And in the case of Haneke, deserves it more than anyone this year.
It's not as if they nominated Hooper instead of Affleck. Now that would have been revolting!
- P.S. Leave it to SAG to give an award to a British show with no SAG jurisdiction (even if Elizabeth McGovern has her card, maybe the only one).
This is why my union -- WGA -- can stop Hollywood in its tracks tonight if we want to, ha. Solidarity. No WGA Award for non-WGA members (sorry, Almodovar). :)
- Jesus Christ! Enough with Claire Danes!
Jessica Lange should have won and particularly for singing "The Name Game" in "American Horror Story." The asylum never looked like so much fun.
- Rose Byrne looked like the Little Rascals teacher in that getup. And is she dating Bobby Cannavale. I saw them sitting together all hugged up.

- "The Hollywood community LOVES Les Miserables. It's not outside the realm of possibility that it could end up snatching the Best Picture statuette on Oscar night. by: Lynn Stairmaster"
You also told us not so long ago it was going to be nominated for fifteen Oscars, Lynn, and that the little boy who played Gavroche was going to be nominated for Best Supporting Actor. You've pretty much lost all credibility here regarding Les Miserables. You clearly have no objectivity regarding that movie whatsoever.
- I don't know R206. I seem to remember him doing that weird manic hand thing when he and Matty won their Oscar. I was actually thinking about that when he won.
- Agreed R282, for "The Name Game" sequence alone. You have to imagine that Lange really leads the company of actors on that show and probably the writers too - there isn't anything she can't play.
And I loved all the callbacks to Frances this season. She's incredible.
- Yeah, how was Downton eligible but not Beasts of The Southern Wild.
People getting up their and saying their SAG card makes them a "professional" actor is so lame. Lindsay Lohan has a SAG card, people.
- Les Miserables is this year's best film. I hope it comes through and wins. Les Miz deserves Best Picture even if Anne Hathaway is the weak link in my opinion. The rest of the cast, the production, direction, music, story and cinematography are all outstanding.
- Wasn't Affleck's rehab stint several years ago rumored to be because of coke? I doubt he's back on the stuff, but who knows.
- R287, Downton is an all-union production - that's why it's nominate-able. It doesn't matter tat it's British Equity.
BOTSW, which is an amateurish piece of shit, was non-union..
- Clair Danes over Jessica Lange? Is this some ulternate Universe, or the SAG voters smoking funny cigarettes?
- Oh, thanks R290. I haven't seen BOTSW but I know it is much loved in the States.
- [quote]Les Miserables is this year's best film. I hope it comes through and wins. Les Miz deserves Best Picture even if Anne Hathaway is the weak link in my opinion. The rest of the cast, the production, direction, music, story and cinematography are all outstanding.
I'd rather see "Les Miserables" win BP, then the overrated (and overrated director) "Argo".
- When Jessica Lange is nominated for anything, it should be no contest. She wins hands down. Jessica is brilliant in everything she does especiallly "American Horror Story: Asylum."
Judy! Judy, Judy bo boody, Bonana fanna fo foody, Fee fy mo Moody, Judy!

- Who's the young hunk dancing with Jessica Lange?
- R295, all I see is a horrible bug walking on the screen...my GAWD.
- Evan Peters and he's hot hot hot. And back next season in another role. (He was in Season One too as Tate... blonde then).
- Where do they find all of those geeks who played the extras in AHS?
- Pepper is a young actress done with makeup, can see on behind the scenes footage.
P.S,. Evan Peters also shows his bare ass in this season when he first arrives at the asylum and gets a shower against his will. And it's quite an ass.
- Evan Peters was on the cover of Bello Magazine.
http://cdn04.cdn.justjared.com/wp-content/uploads/headlines/2012/08/evan-peters-covers-bello-magazine-fall-fashion-issue.jpg
- Thanks, 301, adorable. He could be the real thing, future movie star -- so malleable, hot hunk sometimes, nerdy chic others. (Like a lot of people, I only just now discovered him via that "Name Game" clip. Love him there).
Ryan Murphy found a good one here and keeps showing him off for us. Great tighty whitey action in season finale too).i
- R302 = Evan Peter's agent, manager, or publicist
- If you're going to nominate 7 or more pictures for Best Picture, you should be able to do that for the other categories to include other people. What if you had more than 5 Best Actors or in this case directors?
- R304 that would be horrible! It's already cheapened the Picture category as it is. Expanding the other categories would cheapen the prestige even further. I hope they go back to just 5 Picture nominees.
- Funny how you see them with their salad course and it just sits there... do these people even eat?? Those salad plates sat there the length of the two hour broadcast. Hello, food poisoning.
- Did anyone see Ross Matthews interviewing Glee's Mark Salling? Can't believe it was brought up on the red carpet. Awkward.

- You forget that in LA it's only tea time. They can all go out for a proper dinner at The Brown Derby after the ceremony.
- R306, I remember when SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE was sweeping everything 4 years ago, the cast at the SAGs was actually eating the food at the table. I found it strange (since no one usually does) and endearing.
- I eat shit.
The Streep troll (tm)
- Do the wig trolls, see, e.g., the John Kerry thread, wish to weigh in on Dick Van Dyke's full head of hair, too?
- [quote]Did anyone see Ross Matthews interviewing Glee's Mark Salling? Can't believe it was brought up on the red carpet. Awkward.
AWKWARD.
- Why was it so awkward?
- Argo is undoubtedly the worse film to win Best Picture at the SAG awards.
Nuff said!
- [quote][R306], I remember when SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE was sweeping everything 4 years ago, the cast at the SAGs was actually eating the food at the table. I found it strange (since no one usually does) and endearing.
The actors usually eat during commercial break. It's common courtesy not to eat during the awards ceremony. Otherwise, you're caught with your mouth full when being on camera or photographed.
- Ross asked Mark about the battery charges against him, r313.
- [quote]The actors usually eat during commercial break. It's common courtesy not to eat during the awards ceremony. Otherwise, you're caught with your mouth full when being on camera or photographed.
I think that poster was referring to the shots of plates full of untouched food throughout the telecast. You could tell most of the guests never had their meal. It has nothing to do with being on camera.
- R262 To be honest they wanted a film that concentrated on race relations instead! That was ridiculous. Talk about a snub.
Marion was beautiful and sick she didn't look sick. Jenn Lawrence claimed she was sick and then she wasn't...she looked good anyway.
As for January Jones, God what a fashion disaster she is! She looked like a lesbian dominatrix from a bad Marvel comic from the 70s. How unfabulous she is. I hate Joan rivers BUT I hope she rips this vapid and vain freak to shreds. If she doesn't then you know Joanie is seline,if we didn't already.
- I dismiss any pronouncement preceded by the non-word "nuff."
Not even a grammar troll
- [quote]I hate Joan rivers BUT I hope she rips this vapid and vain freak to shreds. If she doesn't then you know Joanie is seline,if we didn't already
Haha. Well Kelly said she loved it (of course!)
- Kelly needs a makeover herself. That purple hair is absolutely ghastly. She has lost weight but her chubby arms look like ham hocks. I mean Len Dunham's ham hocks look better. Adding insult to injury her tattoos are terrible. Kelly's fat arms become even more obnoxious with those hideous tatoos. I like tatoos BUT Kelly's tatoos are positively artless.
I meant to say about Joan:If she doesn't then you know Joanie is senile,if we didn't already. I wanted to correct that because Joanie, Giuliana,Kelly or the cute gay Greek guy might be reading.....

January Jones' hair was AWFUL.
- R321
I head Kelly O. say she was getting some of her tats lasered off.
- "I think that poster was referring to the shots of plates full of untouched food throughout the telecast. You could tell most of the guests never had their meal."
It's a rare actress that would eat food at a formal televised event. It'd ruin her makeup, she might be photographed looking awkward, she's wearing a borrowed $20,000 gown, and she if eats more than a tablespoon it'll ruin the skin-tight fit of her dress. Plus, most of them don't eat food anyway.
- They should just give them iPads with pictures of food on them.
- R281, Leslie Nicol (Mrs. Patmore) probably has her SAG-AFTRA card-she just did an episode of Once Upon A Time. And both Michelle Dockery (Mary) and Jessica Brown-Findley (Sybil) shot movies in NYC so they've no doubt got their union cards now, too.
But point taken. Downton Abbey is under British Equity, not SAG-AFTRA jurisdiction.
- There is no point to be taken, r326. Foreign actors unions count. Marion Cotillard was not on a SAG contract for Rust and Bone. Best Exotic Marigold Hotel was on British Equity.
- Evan Peters?
You guys and your obsession with these bland, pasty, 100lb twinks. I don't comprehend.
- Marion Cotillard had a SAG-AFTRA card BEFORE Rust And Bone, you dolt.
- The question is SHOULD the union give out awards to those not working for those hard-fought SAG rates, etc. WGA won't send that message. DGA neither (or so I thought, though Tarantino always muddies those waters somehow. Is he in or out?)
It's the SAG Awards so they have the right to promote their own agenda. God knows if they can ever figure it out (and, yeah, I'm a part of it so know of what I speak... they talked of merging with AFTRA since 1983 and just now got to it, even though its power move should be obvious).
- [quote]People getting up their and saying their SAG card makes them a "professional" actor is so lame. Lindsay Lohan has a SAG card, people.
True, R287, but at least when Lohan got hers she was a cute and talented kiddie actress.
Paris Hilton has one, so does Donald Trump. That's why one of the masks in the SAG award is crying.
- It's now official.Joan Rivers is the supreme cunt of the universe! She actually liked that vacuous vixen's B Science Fiction movie haircut.....it's definitely is a sig of early dementia or all those facial fillers went to her brain!
Joan did at least rip the dress.I'll give that old bee stung ninny one. BUT THAT HAIR WAS HIDEOUS. January Jones can't dress, can't act and can't even dress up or play a lesbian superhero from a failed X-Men movie. Oh the pain, oh the horror.....
- Jones must have slept her way, the woman cannot act.
- JJ supposedly goes both ways. I wouldn't be surprised if she used the lesbian catching coach as well as the straight one.OH and the director of that X-Men film is her baby daddy. No not the Empress of All Twinks, Brian Singer, but that fug Brit married to Claudia Schiffer.
- SAG members who work under British Equity contracts are in violation of the union's Rule One. However, the union has been turning a blind eye to these violations for years, and, practically speaking, it's an unenforceable rule. The voters -- SAG rank and file -- simply don't care, thus you have Downton Abbey's win.
Text of SAG's Global Rule One:
Global Rule One
Rule One for all SAG members states that "No member shall work as a performer or make an agreement to work as a performer for any producer who has not executed a basic minimum agreement with the guild which is in full force and effect."
Originally, this rule was enforced only within the U.S. and its territories. However, since May 1, 2002, due to a rapidly changing global entertainment industry, Screen Actors Guild has expanded Rule One to ensure that the protections of the Guild contracts follow its members wherever they work. As such, Global Rule One now extends Rule One of the union's membership rules beyond the U.S. borders to all shooting locations around the world.
Specifically, Global Rule One applies to all members who are engaged by a producer that is a foreign entity to work outside of the United States on a theatrical motion picture, TV production, or commercial/industrial film that is shot entirely in a foreign country. It states that in order for a member to be in compliance with Global Rule One, and thereby cleared by the Guild to perform services, such producer must become signatory to a Screen Actors Guild Global Rule One agreement, providing for minimum wages, working conditions and protections for each such member.
If you are such a producer, and desire to engage SAG members to perform outside the United States, please contact the appropriate contracts department below at least 3 weeks prior to commencement of principal photography to initiate and complete the signatory process, in order for the Guild to clear its members to travel and work aboard for your company.
