I think every man looks best if he buttons the bottom button of his jacket. Buttoning the top button makes a man look weak, unless you're an actual bodybuilder.
Who else agrees that buttoning the top button of a jacket makes a man look terrible?
Meh, guys look better in a hoodie that a jacket anyway.
Check out this photo. The guy looks horrible with the top button buttoned. It makes his shoulders look narrow and it makes his waist & hips look wide. Who wants that??
Its a matter of your personal style and the occasion.
So why put the top button there in the first place if it is so offensive to folks?
Yikes, the things people worry about.
Those photos are a joke. The "suit" jacket he's. wearing is a cheap ,ill-fitting rag that no one wth sense or taste would ever wear. Or brains
The rules in that linked article were too absolute for me. And I agree with R5 re those jackets in those photos being poor examples to illustrate the rules.
as long as brown shoes are only worn with earth tones, who cares.
Back when "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" was on, Carson Kressley called the top, middle, and bottom jacket buttons "always, sometimes, and never."
On a related note ... if you're not wearing a tie, DO NOT button the top shirt button!
All over the internet & fashion world people INSIST that you never button the bottom button. They are insistent on it. They constantly call it a fashion faux pas.
But they are full of shit. Every man looks more manly with the bottom button buttoned.
It's time to revolt against the fascist fashionistas.
The sartorial rule I've always heard for using buttons when you want to button a three button jacket, from top to bottom, is:

MARY, NOT THAT!!!
R11, you will look better if you free yourself of that sartorial rule and quit buttoning the top button. Doing that makes you look pear-shaped.
If there are only 2 buttons, the only button you use is the top button. Three buttons have faded out of fashion again. They'll be back, but you wont find them in fashionable stores now.

And posting like that makes you sound like a nelly hysteric.
I just hope I live long enough for this current abomination of a suit cut goes out of style.
Nothing looks worst than the center button closed with tie sticking out below.
When Ryan Gosling is in a suit, he always has the top button buttoned.
It's for slim guys.
