I wish they had done a Limbaugh character for the Thai Rosetta Stone bit. The gay skit so far is about as unfunny as anything I've seen. Ever. Levine is not very good.
He's got ugly features and tramp stamps. Yuck.
The gay sketch is painful to watch! Do junior high kids write this show now?
Those tats = No
Hader totally ripped of Lemongrab for that character.
Why does this show still exist?
He's so ugly and not funny at all.
Adam needs to get over himself.
Justin biber will host and be the musical guest.
The world is going to hell.
Keenan seems to be in every sketch.
This is torture.
I knew they couldn't do a season without a lame digital short
I have no idea who this rapper is. I guess they need someone to replaceKayne and Lil Wayne.
This is awful
Cameron Diaz is looking middle-aged. She looks like Elizabeth Edwards in the face now.
"He's so ugly and not funny at all."
Who are you referring to?
If you're talking about Adam Levine, he isn't supposed to be funny, he's a rock singer. There lies the problem, people who aren't satisfied with what they're already doing for a living.
Bill Hader always cracks me up, no matter how unfunny a sketch is, I really find him hilarious.
Bill Hader's screaming drama queen character reminds me of this former British X Factor competitor.
The gay sketch was atrocious, but the "Catfish" one was pretty funny.
The gay sketch sounds like 70% of DLers who believe every hot guy is gay.
He was surprisingly awkward.
I'm often surprised by who can and can't pull it off. I thought he could but he couldn't relax into it.
too much ink, otherwise beautiful Ashkenazy boy
Adam kept looking at the TelePrompTer during the last skit, which made the scene look mechanical. He does have a nice bod, but his tats ruin it.
Adam was wooden and stale. Maybe in 10 years when people get nostalgic for this time period in SNL's history they will see the performance more fondly like they do now with performances 10+ years old.
I thought the Circle Work sketch was interesting yet not funny. I felt it was Adam's way of saying how foolish gay people are for thinking "every" guy is gay including him.
[quote]"He's so ugly and not funny at all."
[quote]Who are you referring to?
Leonid Brezhnev, Rose!
I give him credit for having a better body than he used to. I was dreading him taking the shirt off, based on how skinny he used to be, but he's beefier now.
Whoever played Dr. Melfi in "The Sopranos Diaries" was brilliant. She had just one line, but she exactly replicated Lorraine Bracco's voice.
Totally disappointed with Adam. The gay sketch was as unfunny and stereotypical as it gets. I really like Adam Levine and expected much more from him.
The digital short was lame. I'm tired of Andy Samberg faux-rapping and wearing dark sunglasses.
[quote]Adam kept looking at the TelePrompTer during the last skit
What I've always found interesting about SNL over the years is the fact so many of the hosts have to rely on cue cards, but it seems the regular cast members have all memorized their lines and don't need the cards. Do they get more rehearsal time than the hosts?
glad to know Adam keeps his hole good and hairy
I want Adam to fuck me
That is all
I loved the gay sketch. It was the funniest thing I have seen on SNL in years.
I think he is extremely handsome, model handsome. Those stills of him when coming back from commercial were magnificent.
Damn, SNL is truly scraping the bottom of the barrel by having Justin Fuck on there.
Lorne Michaels knows that most SNL hosts are totally incapable of doing comedy which is why he pads his programs with cameo appearances by the likes of Jerry Seinfeld or past SNL regulars like Andy Samberg.
John Mayer is bisexual, everyone knows that.
[quote]I think he is extremely handsome, model handsome. Those stills of him when coming back from commercial were magnificent.
I have to agree on that.
Think I'll skip the Beiber next week.
I liked the battling musicians.
During the catfish skit, you could see the cue cards being changed in the reflection of the glass on the house.
He sucks and he loves himself.
Verificatia of sizemeat?
You're right, R51. He OOZED smugness throughout the whole show. It was such a turn-off.
Adam Levie is Hot as hell. SNL has sucked for 10 years
The Gay Show sketch was hilarious.
The episode had a few funny moments like when Samberg was putting lotion on his hand in anticipation of Levine taking his shirt off. Hader and the freak out skit was fun at first, but like in good ol' SNL tradition they really dragged the joke into an endless loop where you just wanted the skit to end. I liked the digital short at the beginning but at the end it was really a silly freak show act.
Very, very gay-themed show.
But also, for the most part, dull.
Levine is not natural for comedy and he constant searching for cue-cards was amateurish and distracting.
The only thing I liked about him was his smirk when "Justin Timberlake" was mentioned.
The only I thing I laughed out loud at was the Bill Hader/Firefighter-Drama Queen sketch. That man knows how to push my comedy buttons. I wish Stefon were on every week!
[quote]SNL has sucked for 10 years
More like 19, sweetie.
I think the regular cast members probably have fewer lines to memorize because they rotate through the skits whereas the host is in almost all of them. Also, they're probably more practiced at reading off the cue cards and looking natural while the hosts are doing it for the first time.
[quote] I wish Stefon were on every week!
You will be in charge of Programming at all cable access channels in Hell.
The show has some deadwood that definitely needs to retire--Kenan Thompson (who has not been funny since he was under 18) is the first who should get the ax, but goddammit if he's not Lorne Michaels' favorite actor--he gets more screen time than anyone, while the infinitely more talented Taran Killam gets very little to do.
Frankly, I think it's time Lorne Michaels himself went. The show is too formulaic and is never surprising. It needs some shaking up. Maybe Tina Fey can take over as executive producer when she's done with 30 Rock.
[quote]but it seems the regular cast members have all memorized their lines and don't need the cards.
Are you on drugs? The main cast totally relies on the teleprompters - especially the skits in the latter part of the show. It is so shameless and pathetic.
I read an article/interview with Lorne Michaels and he was bragging about how the teleprompters really contribute to the scenes, that their use is pretty much undetectable. WTF???
[quote]Cameron Diaz is looking middle-aged. She looks like Elizabeth Edwards in the face now.
She's 40 and looks 40. If she looked 19 you'd be yelling about all the work she's had done.
Adam looked hot last night. I'm glad he is letting his chest hair grow again. i'm not a fan of excessive tattoos, but I am used to his. Handsome man. Comedy sketches, however, are not his thing right now
"Cameron Diaz is looking middle-aged."
She is middle-aged. Did you somehow think she was going to stay 28 forever?
I began to watch this episode in the network web site and ended up clicking away shortly after Diaz spun around in the chair. I guess no one has successfully convinced her that she isn't funny.
I laughed at some of the skits and I think Adam Levine is cute but I'm not into tattoos.
I'm sometimes surprised at how sour and judgemental some of you are. I wonder if everything in your lives seems awful, everyone is ugly, everyone is talentless. It's kind of depressing to read here.
I thought Adam Levine was cuter before he added all those tattoos.
Oh I do laugh at SNL skits, R72. I had some friends over and at their suggestion, we watched an old compilation of Chris Farley skits. I didn't think I was going to, but I was the only one who truly laughed. I guess they were too cool to find any part of any skit funny, and maybe even thought I was hamming it up for attention (nope) - but whatever. Let it rip.
There were two gay skits. the gaytv one was pretty stereotypical of what straight guys think about gays. Adam has to put on a southern lispy gay accent to appear gay? Uh...k he could have just worn a tank top...oh wait.
Rthen there are self-loatyhing twits like you who laugh at gay-bashing jokes because you 'get' the humor due to your own homophobia.
Sigh. Typing on a phone doesn't work with big fingers. "Then" and "self-loathing". There.
r76 if you are trying to say I am self loathing uhh no. I was pointing out the gay skit was offensive. I am gay, most of the guys I know look exactly like adam, tattoos, wife beater gq looks..
Imagine they did a BET parody and they had on two uncle toms eating watermelon and drinking grape soda just so we could see they were really black.
So even though Sanberg left the show we still have to suffer through his lame-ass digital shorts? Why? Aren't any of the other current cast members talented enough to make a digital short?
And you're just a bundle of sunshine yourself, r72.
[R13] & [R20], his name is Kendrick Lamar. Look him up on Wikipedia. I actually enjoy his debut album, so to each their own...
[quote]What I've always found interesting about SNL over the years is the fact so many of the hosts have to rely on cue cards, but it seems the regular cast members have all memorized their lines and don't need the cards. Do they get more rehearsal time than the hosts?
This has been discussed ad infinitum people. The skits can be changed, re-written at the last minute. It's not like the lines are set on Wednesday and you have the rest of the week to memorize. The actors have to read cue cards to know what the lines are if they have changed. Some of them are just better at it.
It amazes me how some people never learn how to read cue cards properly when their jobs depend on it. I understand the guests host not being good at it, but I never get it when the SNL actors can;t disguise it better.
The worst ever at reading cue cards was Rosie O'Donnell when she had to introduce guests on her talk show. It was like she went into an affectless trance when she read them, and you could see her eyes dart back and forth from line to line.
I read Michaels don't want them to learn their lines too well. Also things have been changed the last second...
I once gave Adam Levine a blow job . . . then the alarm clock went off.
Taran was so damn sexy in this episode! Shaking his chunky ass at Adam's crotch gave me an insta-boner.
You know why this show is so bad since, forever? Because most episodes are just promo events for the guest's latest movie, TV show, or music release. No different than any other Late Show. It's all mediocre promotion for mediocre entertainment.
Mediocre is a compliment based on the episodes I've seen. Martin Short had the only funny show.
"The gay sketch sounds like 70% of DLers who believe every hot guy is gay."
99 percent of straight people mistake gay people for straight on a daily basis. Almost no one guesses any girl/woman is a lesbian unless they come out.
And until Anderson Cooper, Matt Bomer, and Jim Parsons came out, there were morons on here shrieking at us that they were straight. Hell, before that we had people insisting that Clay Aiken and Ricky Martin weren't gay... we were all just saying that because "we want everyone to be gay."
He's sucked cock before. He's never going to be an actor and needs to give up now. No one is going to let their client lose to Adam Levine if they're going for the same role. He's too desperate and Hollywood hates desperate (see Justin T.)
Didn't he and John Mayer fuck?
How can you say he is handsome?
He's what my Grandma Hall would have called a real Jew.
[quote]I'm sometimes surprised at how sour and judgemental some of you are. I wonder if everything in your lives seems awful, everyone is ugly, everyone is talentless. It's kind of depressing to read here.
I agree. I used to wonder what these folks are like in real life. Are they bitter, friendless failures? Do they have jobs that force them to be friendly to the public, then come here to vent? Do they have jobs at all?
Eventually I quit wondering and accepted it as a peculiarity of DL.
I will say this thread is making me curious to see the episode. I can't imagine why Levine would make homophobic jokes, given how sexually ambiguous he seems in real life.
He's money/celebrity handsome. Without it he would just be not unattractive.
He sure did shake his butt very nicely in the skit where he had a showdown with Train. His butt was on the move.............
Is there still a taboo about being tattooed as a practicing Jew?
One of the best host(ess) of all was Susan Lucci and I remembered it had to be because she was so skilled at reading cue cards from those decades of practice on AMC.
I think Bill Hader is one of the more talented members of SNL in a while but that bit where he struggled on the floor with a Dalmation was something you'd see a very drunk, unfunny friend do at a party.
Agreed R98, simply because Susan Lucci is awesome.
R94, he is Red Hot Jewboy handsome. He'd be an amazing looking man no matter how much money or fame he had. Adam Levine is one choice piece of Kosher meat.
I've never really found him attractive - too scrawny and I hate the tattoos - but I confess he looked super sexy writhing around with Bobby Moynihan in drag in that awful final sketch.
I'm supposing Levine's tats are the semi-permanent kind.
Long after he's left the entertainment stage and is in his dotage, I';; doubt you'd find much evidence of them.
'Cause if I'm wrong, then he's a flaming idiot for defacing his skin that way.
The fat black dude, Keenan Thompson, is not funny. That stupid "whats up with That?" sketch is so so not funny. But it is usually the first or second sketch after the monologue, which tells me Loren must think it is the best. Kind of sad. It s a concept that sounds funny on paper but.... drags on way too long.
Fred Armison, Hader and Taran along with Seth Meyers are the only funny ones on the show. And the new fat chick.
I did like the Sopranos thing too.
Levine was horrible. Absolutely fucking horrible.
Taking the thread slightly off topic, which past hosts would you like to see make a return? Brian Williams would be at the top my list. Peyton Manning was good too.
Just watched the episode. He's hot but the cue card reading was awful.
I loved The Sopranos Diaries. .
"Oh my God. I'm back. I'm home. All the time, it was... We finally really did it ... You Maniacs! You blew it up! Ah, damn you! God damn you all to hell!"
We are switching to the new platform for The DataLounge this weekend. All of our mobile users have been using it for over a week and all first time users have been using it for about a month - which adds up to well over one million users. So we're ready to end this phase of the testing and move everybody to the new site. (more)
And yes, we've changed the look and some of how it operates.
Yes, we know you just *hate* it in well in advance.
Yes, we know we suck.
Yes, we are the biggest suckers that ever sucked.
But it was time for a change and with the huge shift to mobile it was long overdue. We've taken this opportunity not only to update the look but also make major changes under the hood (or "bonnet" if you're either British or pretentious or both). And we have to prepare for 2016 - a presidential election year where we can normally expect to see a 60% jump in traffic (yes, we've seen 5 presidential elections so far…Christ we're old).
The site has a bunch - nay, plethora - of new features which will make the site more usable: better search, the ability to ignore posters and threads, see link previews, to pick up a thread where you left off, spam and malware filtering and more.
If you want you can go explore and see for yourself, Click here.
And while running the tests we've noticed two interesting reactions to the new system - people are spending more time on the site and more people that come stay around longer and look at more stuff. Both good things. Yay!
Possibly we've not slain all the dragons and there will be issues that come up during the switchover. There's a help button in the lower right hand corner of the page which you can use to send us bug reports.
Please include as much information about the hardware (PC, Mac, Tablet, Phone etc), operating system (Windows, Mac OS, Android, iOS etc) and browser (Chrome, Safari, Opera, Internet Explorer etc) that you are using as possible to help us replicate and fix the problem.
Please note that complaints about colors, fonts, icons and the like are not "bugs" - they are design choices that we've made and we expect one or two cases of world-class bitching. But they won't actually cause headaches, scurvy, heart attacks, Restless Leg Syndrome, Morgellon's Disease or the vapors (but have your smelling salts at hand just in case).
Talking to DataLounge servers. Please wait a moment...
