The film that defines this era

It has to be the Dark Knight. For those who disagree, name one film that beats this one. Bet you couldn't. It's defines this era, the mood, the atmosphere. The concept that all not bad guys are hideous beasts are also introduced. I watch, rewatch parts of this film. It is truly astounding. Especially the performance by Heath Ledger. He was legendary.

• r17, I'm not a Fincher fan, but I think Fight Club was his best work as far as capturing the zeitgeist. I was disappointed in Zodiac, but I am also a true crime buff. I could see how someone not aware of the case would appreciate it more than me. (I did think the casting/acting sucked regardless, though.)

• None. None this past decade. There has never been a film that encapsulates the era of the Bush Presidency. It was a dark decade and I can't think of one film that captures all the hell this country went through. In the '70s, at least the people got MASH and Network to define an era wrought by war, corruption, and financial meltdown.

• I don't see why anyone is demonizing the Heath Ledger troll. He's no worse than the people who keep bumping the same Matt Bomer, Harry Styles, and Keanu Reeves threads. As for The Dark Knight, that's a pretty good answer. And even though Sex and the City 2 was suggested as a joke, it's actually not that bad a choice. It's all about obnoxious Americans, refusal to age gracefully, and obsessive materialism.

• I think "The Help" was spot on in how it portrayed America in 2012, even though it was set in the 1960s. It perfectly represented the entire 2012 election cycle of White Republican America vs. everyone else. Ann Romney reminded me of all the entitled white women in the movie.
