So was I right to cut him off or not

My boyfriend and I gave a dinner party recently where the talk turned to Newtown. One of the guests, who's a moron in most things, made some stupid generalization about a specific ethnic group that I thought bordered on racist. So I called him on it and we went back and forth and it got heated. Finally I just stopped arguing and said: If you generalize like that you can't complain when people talk about us as one big evil slutty threat to humanity. I now take the position this loudmouth idiot is not welcome in our house. We've been invited to dinner at his house in a couple of weeks. I don't want to go. My boyfriend says I'm not wrong in my reasoning but I should have just let it go and not engaged the loudmouth. We both really like the boyfriend, who is one of my boyfriend's oldest friends, but I've had it with this ignorant lout to the point I really don't want to waste an evening listening to him go on about anything. He is genuinely stupid and provocative for provocative's sake... but stupidly. Now my boyfriend is playing the 'do it for me card'. I've been putting up with this jerk for three years. Nobody likes him. I think it's time to pull the plug. Advice?
