Tasteful friends (celebrity edition)... Ethan Hawke's digs in Chelsea for $6.25M
Lots of primary colors, white walls, books very tidily on shelves, not offensive, but is it too much to ask that a furnished property listed for sale at $6.25M have even one good piece of furniture?
The NYC aesthetic of charity shop and curb finds gets a bit old, at least for adults.

- Companion article which IDs Ethan Hawke as owner.

- It all kind of looks like a 1950s teen rec room -- BRIGHT! primary colors, Coke machine, movie posters, etc.
As usual, I like the outdoor area best -- but even that has some stupid signs on the fence, like frat boys used to steal & hang on their walls.
- Furnishings are ugly and not loving the clawfoot tub.
But the space and the bones of it are gorgeous. That could be quite a showplace in the right hands.
6.25 mil for almost 3000 SQF in NYC doesn't sound too batshit crazy. Real estate in Manhattan/NYC and in SF is a whole different reality than most of us will ever experience.
- mama like! Except what's with the kid's bedroom? He has a child?
- Is he moving to Brooklyn like all the poseurs?
- I like the green bookcase, but I prefer a calmer color palette.
- Uh, R4, Hawke has 4 children. 2 from his first marriage and 2 from his seocnd.
- [quote] Hawke has 4 children
That we know of. Apparently he drops his seed everywhere!
- Bones are wonderful, art pieces are horrific, love the red SMEG fridge, and I love red but not loving the awful green, and how cold it looks.
- Like the structure, but the decorating...hurl...and that kitchen, barf. I can't stand that kitschy crap.
- I like the kitchen! I don't like the cutesy kid's room, the tacky carpet in the living room, the green lacquer and the Coke machine is too rec room! The movie posters aren't good, they're too mainstream, wouldn't expect it from Hawke.
- Yeah, why would a hipster like Hawke display a Clint Eastwood (hurl) poster?
- I like. I live relatively close (3 blocks away) in a virtually identical layout. Although I rent, I know my place has a similar valuation of 6.75mil. His is nicer tho, in my opinion.
- Looks like a male frat house and w/Ethan I would have expected more "hip" art or movie posters. Hate the coke machine. hate the patchwork rug.

- Why do are you all expecting high art from try hard aging hipster fugface Ethan Hawke?
- That is one big-ass fridge. And you'd have to be some kind of exhibitionist to use that bath. Personally, I'd gut the space.
- The art and decor are made up of modest-budget catalogue items.
Uma's probably keeping him poor because he's a slut.
- I love the color scheme. The white walls, good wood floorboards, and bright colors are very SF Victorian, or would be if the celings were higher.
Why does the living room seem cramped, while the other rooms look spacious?
- R13, what is the rent there? Don't have to be exact
- It's HIDEOUS. Why haven't you queens torn it apart? I expected a little more taste from this thread.
- I like it a lot. It looks like a real home for real people not overly concerned that House Beautiful will be stopping by looking for a glass backsplash, and rainfall shower heads.
- I agree with R20. It is very tacky. The color palette, for that residence, is childish.
- R19 just a little over 8k/month. We only rent the main house (not including the ground floor). Be worth more than we could afford if it was fully renovated. It's kind of raw, but I like that.
- Yeah, I'd love to spend that much on the place and keep pricking myself on hidden, discarded syringes.
- I would never feel comfortable in the back yard being overlooked be soo many windows from next door
aussie%20dingo
- That exposed back yard requires a border of trees with nice, thick, foliage. The back yard looks totally unused, really, but it could be made into something quite shady and nice.
- "and this is where Mr. Hawke would smoke meth."
- Is HAwke really a druggie?
