I love it. It skims 5 years off her age and, as usual, her skin is gorgeous. I'd love to know what brand of foundation she wears.
It looks good in r6's link, but terrible in OP's link.
OP's link looks too much bangs-ish
What does "nobody understands black hair" mean, R1? Is there some mystery that we're all missing?
R1 means that if you're not black, then you likely don't understand black hair. It is much more temperamental and high-maintenance than many people of other races may think.
She looks like she's channeling Kerry Washington. Is it true Michelle Obama doesn't like her?
They have to sleep with silk stockings on their head, and once they get their hair done it can't be washed until their next visit to the hairdresser. That could be a week, or two weeks. In between? Flakes, dents in the sides, and new growth on the neck.
If I were a black women, I'd wear a very short natural cut, this way I could wash it more often.

They? Is this some newly-discovered subspecies you're referring to?
I'm sure R14 means blacks when he uses the word "they" but he really should mean women with curly hair. My sister has curly hair and used to sleep in a silk stocking and keep her hair short to keep it more orderly. And she's white.
I'm a white male, and my hair was very stiff and straight. I had to sleep with one of my mother's nylons on my head at night to train it to grow "normally."
now if she would stand up straight and stop slouching
Her style always looks 10 years ahead of everyone else. Is she the only non-frau first lady besides Jackie Kennedy?
Betty Ford was pretty cool.
The chemicals used to straighten black women's hair can do horrible damage and cause breakage, preventing it from getting longer than just a few inches, hence why some have to resort to weaves. I'm with R14. I think the short and natural look is very attractive.
Yes and imagine wearing a weave stitched into your cornrows for over a month. You get that wet in the shower it will be like wearing a wet hat for 2 days because you'll never get the area under the weave dry.
Bangs on a 49-year-old woman? Never!
She actually looks pretty slim in the photo @ R6.
Bangs are too long, looks like a shaggy dog.
I'm betting on a wig.
It's possible that her hair was damaged by her latest treatment and that she needs to wear a wig until it grows back in.
I know a (white) guy who only does black hair, and he makes a shitload of money because of all the chemical treatments many black women have done to their hair to make it straight.
WIG! If anyone thinks that is her real hair, GURL... you got no i-dee-yah!
Up for original thread.
That ain't a wig. It may not be all her hair (extenstions may have been added for thickness), but that's no wig. That part running down the top of her head the top is a dead giveaway.
Michael Jackson would be jealous.
It would be so nice if she went natural and gave her hair a vacation from the chemicals. But they'd never allow the First Lady to have an Afro.
Yeah, a mod squad 'fro would rock!
It does look wig-like in some photos, but I gotta say, I like it. She looks beautiful and sassy. So-oooo tired of the bouff-ed up look. Go Michelle!!!!
R39, in the 1996 photo you present, Michelle was 32 - not of high school age or university undergrad age which I spoke of.
I wasn't replying to your post, R38. Just wanted to show an earlier pic of her with a different lifestyle.
It's not a wig, it's a weave...duh. I think she looks beautiful, but some friends and I concluded that it makes her look a little too youthful. It's laughable to think that the First Lady should have to stick to one hairstyle for 8 years, so the bangs are at least a nice way to shake things up.
How is a weave different from a wig with Michelle's new hairstyle?
R45, a wig would be just that-- a full wig. A weave means that hair has been sewn or glued into her own to make it look fuller. I don't think it's a full weave (the hair is cornrowed and hair is sewn into the cornrows), but a partial weave.
That is one ugly hairdo. It makes her look 60. She cannot pull off that Janet Jackson "Diff'rent Strokes" look. Little black girls get that hairstyle. It's the black equivalent of the bowl cut.
That is one of the worst photos I've ever seen of her, btw. Good god. The Right is now going to put that on t-shirts.
[quote]Betty Ford was pretty cool.
Once she had a few drinks in her.
I think the hair we've seen has been both wigs and weaves--meaning she has a weave and alternates wearing a wig when she wants a shaggier look.
She looks a million times better with the new hairstyle.
Yes, R50, her hair was much shaggier at the Usher concert for military kids last night.
I couldn't figure out why it was not shaggy on the sides today.
So, I think you are correct - with the new bangs, she is sometimes wearing a wig and sometimes wearing a weave.
(I don't think you are talking about her previous hair without bangs, are you? She got a couple of bad haircuts in the past 6 months or year (before the bangs) - bad cuts that did not flow well at all and looked unfortunate)
In the Yahoo photo which the OP posted, you can see that the hair on the sides is fake hair because of its texture and color.
That Yahoo photo was just taken last night.
Today, she is not wearing the shaggy on the sides wig/weave shown in the Yahoo photo, but is probably wearing a different wig/weave today.
I see lots of celebrities (of all shades) with weaves and extensions. It's becoming more commonplace.
Funny how there aren't any derogatory comments on Queen Hillary's extensions.
If black ladies already have weak hair from processing, why would Michelle get a weave instead of just wearing a wig? Weaves put further stress on the hair, but if she just threw on a wig, she could give her natural hair time to grow and repair itself.
Not all black women have negative effects from relaxing their hair for a long period of time. Oprah has gotten relaxers for years, and her hair is thick, full and luxurious.
Another example is Janet Jackson. She has worn weaves and extensions and had her hair dyed for years. The other day, this pic of her at LAX came out, and as you can see, her hair is thick and full. She'd been recently seen wearing braids, and you can tell she had them taken out and decided to let her hair flow freely.
Hilary Clinton does not have extensions.
You are quite stupid, R56.
You also completely lack perception - only one or two posters said anything derogatory. You lack understanding and brain power.
Michelle and her daughters are using the same calcium-based, no-lye relaxer that Oprah swears by. Not a weave, wig or lacefront.
R58 = janbot
And your point is, R61?
R60, you need to look at the yahoo photo which the OP posted in starting this thread.
Michelle is definitely wearing a wig or weave in that Yahoo photo.
It looks synthetic even if it isn't synthetic.
And it's a darker color and her own hair wouldn't be as thick as the photo shows nor would it take to the shaggy cut at the bottom if it were her own hair.
I take it that her hair is naturally nappy? Does she have to spend hours having it pressed with hot irons?
She kinda looks like Ms. J. Alexander of ANTM.
The bangs are hers -- the rest is a fall.
Black people's hair does not act like michelle's wig!
You notice really black people with hair that looks like white people have? Because it isn't their hair.......
You girls are unbeweaveable.
Did Michelle steal one of Diana Ross's wigs? That looks like the wig Diana used to wear for a while in the 80s.
Why is everyone afraid to say that it is a wig.
She's hiding her face behind those bangs. She has a rather uneven hairline and those devilish eyebrows that make her look angry all the time. This do' gives her face a softer countenance. She looks younger, too. Her hair has probably been over processed and burned with all that straightener. She also seems to be channeling her least favorite actress, Kerri Washington. Jealous? Oh, I think so.
