As of 50 minutes ago, the NYT was reporting that at least 10 and possibly dozens of hostages were being held.
This has been going on for a few days now, with numerous conflicting reports of hostages held, hostages freed, hostages alive, hostages dead.
The key is that a State Department spokesman said the US would not get involved unless Americans are killed. As of last night, one was reported dead.
The lock is that the Pentagon wants to go into Mali and the White House doesn't (or at least didn't as of last night).
