Is synthetic fabric ever acceptable?

I've been seeing blends in some otherwise nicely designed clothes.

• I know. I get annoyed too when I see this. Brands and designers that were perfectly good-quality have been using synthetics for things like business apparel for several years now. Why? Are cotton and wool really that expensive now? I mean, they're saving a bundle on the slave labor in China and Bangladesh, so why do they have to go with polyester too? I've bought a couple of items that are synthetic-fiber anyway, just because I liked the way they were designed, but when I wear them I always have the feeling that they're screaming "I'm cheap and synthetic!" (and they weren't even all that cheap).

• I bought (online) some fairly expensive throw pillows without noticing that the fabric on the back was polyester. I can't stand touching them.

• Acrylic sweaters always look nice and feel soft - until you've worn them once or twice. They pill up and look like crap after one washing.

• I've never seen synthetics that held up after being worn a few times. Even worse after they've been dry-cleaned or laundered.

• Columbia sportswear has little silver dots to keep you warm.

• I'm not talking about sportwear like Under Armor and Columbia. I mean shirts, sweaters, etc.

• They push for it in upholstery fabric and it sucks. Search for 'suede' and you have to dig through 40 pages of shit until you locate real skins. Search for a decent velvet and nearly everything is poly. It's just as bad when you look for cashmere sweaters. They always sneak in some synthetic even if you offer to pay top price.

• When I travel, as i do not like denim, I take washable wools which always are a natural/synthetic blend. And unlike Naugas, there is no such thing as natural lycra!

• The best fabric for outdoor garments intended to keep you warm while camping, hiking and doing winter sports are synthetic.

• I used to be really picky about only all-cotton shirts, but now have a few 60/40 ones, that pack well without wrinkling.

• I'm with R15. Name a synthetic fabric that you'd wear skiing.
