Upstairs, Downstairs

I was only four years old when it first appeared on American TV, but my mother tells me she watched it religiously. I'm half-way through the series, which streams on Netflix. For those of you who have watched it, who were your favorite characters and storylines? My favorite characters are definitely Rose (Jean Marsh), Sarah (Pauline Collins), and Mrs Bridges (Angela Baddeley). Actually, all of the servants seem so well-cast.I read that Collins' character and the chauffeur, Thomas, had their own spin-off in the late 70s ("Thomas and Sarah"). I feel like the end of Alfred's storyline was pretty homophobic. The writers should have never brought back his character, in my opinion.
