1000+ cats saved from Chinese restaurants
Volunteers in China have rescued more than 1,000 cats that they found crammed in crates on the side of the road after the truck that was carrying them crashed, The Daily Mail reports. The felines were originally meant to be sold to the restaurants of Guangdong in the Hunan province, China Daily reports.
Photos show the animals being fed while still in the crates, before they were taken to the Changsha Small Animal Protection Association to be treated.
The Daily Mail reports that cats, considered a delicacy, often spend up to two months squeezed into tiny crates before they are sold by the pound or in bulk to restaurant owners. Villagers in the countryside raise the cats to make extra money. The cats are kept alive before they are selected by each diner, much as one would select a lobster in a seafood restaurant, according to the report.
those%20people%20will%20literally%20eat%20anything- Fucking savages
- It isn't what they eat, it's the way they fucking TORTURE animals before they finally kill them. Call me racist all you want but I fucking HATE the Chinese. It's bad enough what they do to their own people, the oceans, the environment. Fuck that country and its people right up the ass. Sickos.
- The Chinese are a very, very sick people.
- Let's not forget they also skin or boil them still alive.
- Between ivory. rhino horn. tiger penises and bear bladders add little Mr. Boots to the list of offenses that make the Chinese so fucking loathsome in the arena of just not giving a fuck about the rest of the planet. What the fuck are these people going to do once they've wiped out every species and extracted every mineral from the earth? Oy...sorry for the rant but there are certain things that make me insane.
- That's what scares me R2. If they are that brutal to animals what would they do to enemy combatants and civilians? Remember that country will be the next likely superpower.
- They raise dogs as food and for fur. They imported St. Bernards to breed for this purpose. Boycott Chinese goods please. Boycott Walmart. If made in China is all that is available, do without.
- Cats are no different than chickens or pigs when it comes to eating, as distasteful as I find it. However, they should be killed in a humane fashion. If it's true about skinning and boiling them alive, that's reprehensible.
- [quote]Cats are no different than chickens or pigs when it comes to eating
no, they are carnivores.
- Totally true R8 and, yes, I agree with you. To some people it's normal to eat dogs and cats but at least humanely kill them and don't just throw them in boiling oil and listen to them scream.
- It IS true r8. They eat live animals like octopus and lobster. They deplete our oceans of fish and pull up tons and tons of animals caught in nets and leave them to die. They boil cats and other animals alive because they adrenaline makes the meat more tender. They're destroying acres and acres of their own forests every minute.
[quote] Boycott Chinese goods please.
HOW? The keyboard you used to type those letters was made in China. The shrimp you had yesterday was caught with no environmental restrictions in China. The American flag you wave on your front porch is made in China. At 11am this morning you've probably already come across thousands of things that were made in China.
We need a tariff on all made in China items. We need manufacturing HERE in America. But greedy fucking CEOs who wave those American flags made in China profess to love our made in China country want to save billions by outsourcing the work to them.
What sucks is that we Americans are the reason that China owns our asses.
r2
- r2 - I'm not disputing your claims. I just didn't know about the live cooking part. As I said, it's reprehensible.
I maintain that eating cats and dogs is a cultural thing but they should be killed humanely.
I love Mr. Boots and Milo as much as anyone, but I was brought up here in the US. When you break it down, there's really no difference between them and goats, chickens, etc.
r8
- Not only their own forests but entire eco-systems in Africa, Australia and South America.
- r12, why are you repeating that when I already said in my first post that it's not what they eat, it's how they eat it?
And you know what, it IS what they eat. When they are driving animals to the brink of extinction for food or medicine, it doesn't matter how they're killed at all. The fact is they are killed. Cats and dogs may be ubiquitous, but eating tiger penis, migratory birds, giant salamanders, rare king cobras, rare owls, rare bears etc. is NOT acceptable under any circumstances.
And don't even get me started on shark fin soup. Millions and millions of sharks massacred every year for a fucking VANITY dish served at weddings or business dinners.
I used to date a guy, a really wealthy guy who was an investment banker and would travel back and forth to China often. He ate many bowls of shark fin soup because it would offend the Chinese not to. I didn't care how rich he was, when he told me that, I ended it right then.

- CHing Chong Ching Chong Ching Chong!
Rosie
- Eating people can be described as a cultural thing.
- Thanks R2/R8. The NYT has articles of late on a weekly basis regarding the extermination of elephants and rhinos in Africa so that some middle class citizen of China can save face and get an erection. Of course this is not just a Chinese issue but it seems that it is just done on an almost industrial level when they do it.
- Years ago there was a documentary on HBO about animal cruelty. It had a segment that showed a Chinese cook skinning a cat alive and then throwing it in water while it cried in distress. I will never forget it.
- The Hindus think we're savages for eating cows and the Jews and Muslims think we're savages for eating pigs. Don't ask the octopuses what they think of us.
- I remember that r18, it really killed me and stayed with me ever since.
- r18 just reading that made me upset. I'm thankful I've never actually seen that, because it would be too much for me to take. That is horrifying. I'm sorry you had to see it.
- A wealthy China will only rape the world of resources.
- Any Chinese doing the unspeakable to a live cat needs to be beheaded on the spot. Just WHACK.
- Not just to cats, r23. Cats will survive. It's the animals with low birth rates, like the Yangtze River Porpoise, or tigers, or elephants, or sun bears, or any other animal that's on a Chinese person's menu, that will be extinct within the next few years.
The only good thing about them depleting all their natural resources is that soon they will start eating each other and they'll all be gone and nature can finally reclaim the land.
- [quote]ike the Yangtze River Porpoise
it already is, I'm sorry to say
- HBO has a good record of documentaries exposing animal abuse. Last year they had one on Americans and their relationship to dogs and how at times there is a schizm between how we cherish dogs but at the same time condone a system where millions of them are euthanized each year. There was an appalling scene in a municipal "shelter" in the South that showed a worker leading dogs to a big dumpster and lifting them up and into it. The top was then closed and a hose was attached and they were gassed. As the camera pulled back you could hear the cries of the dogs inside. The scene ended with a trash truck backing up to the dumpster and the bodies of the dogs being dumped into the back. The Chinese are blatantly vicious in their disregard for other forms of life but in other countries abuse happens as well maybe not as overwhelming systematic.

Examples of war crimes committed by Chinese forces include:
in 1937 near Shanghai, the killing, torture and assault of Japanese POWs and Chinese civilians accused of collaboration, were recorded in photographs taken by Swiss businessman Tom Simmen. (In 1996, Simmen's son released the pictures, showing Nationalist Chinese soldiers committing summary executions by decapitation and shooting, as well as public torture.)
the Tungchow Mutiny of August 1937; Chinese soldiers recruited by Japan mutinied and switched sides in Tōngzhōu, Beijing, before attacking Japanese civilians and killing 280.
Nationalist troops in Hubei Province, during May 1943, ordered whole towns to evacuate and then "plundered" them; any civilians who refused and/or were unable to leave, were killed.

- The Japanese aren't exactly a walk in the park either.
- R28, yes. The Japanese War crimes and dubious "scientific"experiments on POWs were certainly as bad if not worse than those of the Nazis, but somehow we never discuss those.
- Because that was the past, r29. We can't change the past, but we crucially need to concentrate on the future before China completely destroys the environment.
Any animal with a range exclusively in Southeast Asia has virtually no hope of survival at this point.
And that's not even mentioning the poaching trade in Africa that China profits from for folk medicines.

- Eating cats or dogs is no different than eating cows or chickens. Man, the Pollyanna hypocrites in this thread.
So you find them cute and cuddly. Grow up. If you eat meat, I don't want to hear it.

Okay, racist. Troll-dar confirms your assertion.
- Kung Pao Kitty not 18 kuai no more. Now 32 kuai!
- They may have been saved from the restaurants, but they'll all end up dead anyway.
- R34's mother makes stew out of roadkill.
- Meanwhile, the Walmart losers keep buying up their "made in china" trinkets.

I would agree except for the part about the cats being skinned alive.

Way to drop in and post without reading the thread, r32.
That%27s%20not%20what%20this%20is%20about.
- All of you have eaten cat.
If you eat Chinese food, you'll most likely wind up eating cat sooner or later.
Most chinese restaurants buy some frozen and canned goods from manufactures in China.
- Life truly is cheap there.
- My college aged daughter spent last summer in Shanghai as part of a study abroad. Many of the Chinese citizens had dogs (especially Siberian Huskies, Golden Retreivers, and Poodles) trying to emulate Westerners. And perplexingly, many stores had pet rabbits hopping around. Their news stories featured videos of cute kittens.
So not all Chinese are cat torturing scum.
anon
- Real men don't eat pussy.
- Koreans also eat domestic dogs. A Korean BBQ place in my neighborhood was shut down for serving dog (Albany, NY).
- R45 True, how true. The cultural relativism crap is really hilarious. In Western society, cats and dogs are pets. With dogs not only being man's best friend but also aiding blind people as their set of eyes.So those who call the Chinese are on to something. However those cute little bunny rabbits are eaten all over the world oddly enough!Except in the good old USA, though that is changing.......
- "Jews ...think we're savages for eating pigs."
Jews didnt eat pork because it was full of trichinosis, not because it was a sacred animal.
- R48 The rat was another sacred animal to Semites (Jews and Arabs) that was forbidden to be eaten.
- You can bet with any thread about East Asians that our resident bitter pan face will show up with a mock Rosie O'Donnell post.
I would like to know if these cats were saved by Chinese alone or if outsiders (Westerners) helped. Because animal rights throughout East Asia has little support.
- Why in hell could CAT be considered a "delicacy?" That seems pretty far-fetched to me.
- If you're outraged because of the cats, you should be outraged at the killing of any animal for food.
