There was something on another board about Billy Warlock and Peter Reckell getting it on. Please dish on this.
- [quote]ABC maybe. FV had no beef with RS.
She was showing out near the end of the show and made noise about needing to leave for surgery as a ploy to get more story. He let her go (the surgery never happened) because he couldn't be bothered with her usual drama at that very taxing time - cancellation then PP, etc. OLTL could have put her back onscreen at the end if FV had had time and money. He had none.
RS is a handful but is beloved at OLTL as the crazy aunt or grandma nonetheless. FV has always known how to handle her.
- Soap thread F&F
- I don't care how many beloved names RC and FV are bringing back - bottom line is this - the writing is simply not worthy of their talents. It's fanfiction variety dross.

- [quote]I've had an incredible time with my family, taking my daughter to gymnastics, coaching my son's football team, shopping at Target — stuff I never got to do when I was at GH — but I never intended to retire. I'm a worker and CBS stepped up and made a deal. It all happened so fast, just like the telenovela I'm putting together with [Y&R exec producer] Jill Farren Phelps and James Franco for Sony. We're inches away on that project. It's looking very promising. The truth is, if I'd gotten an offer for a primetime show or a movie, I probably wouldn't be on Y&R right now. I just want to work.
Primetime and film, Steve? No one is making The Last Castle II.

- Peter Reckell really?
- I never understood Peter Reckell's appeal. I think he was, is and will continue to be fug.
Now, when Robert Kelker Kelly played Bo....THAT was a hot fucking man!
- What is the holdup with La Sleestak? Surely they have contacted her, but I suspect she's going to be a bit more shrewd this time and possibly ask for real details and story projections. She does like Horgan though.
- [quote] What is the holdup with La Sleestak?
She wants all three Ford brothers back to take turns at playing "poke the cougar" between her scenes.
- Viki Sleestack is RADA trained. Online internet soaps are akin to doing pornography for somebody of that calibre.
- There are rumors that Disney Media Group (connected to Prospect Park) is railroading the process and forcing GH and ABCD to give up the OLTLers to PP, which still holds all the character rights. FV and RC reportedly not happy about losing control of OLTL, the show they love.
Then there are also rumors that PP and GH are collaborating freely and carefully negotiating crossover visits or shared appearances from the GH-OLTLers onto the new show while they also remain on GH.
The truth could be somewhere in between. The other rumor, that Roger Howarth hates LA, is raring to go back to New York and work with Susie Horgan again, is something a little too convenient for me to believe.
- Peter, woof woof.
http://www.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DkcuoKuLlU30
- RH couldn't hate LA that much. Isn't his side piece (Marie Wilson) living in LA?
- R21 Yeah, Peter looks a little better there.
But he can't compare to RKK at his finest. (And look, Lisa Rinna's original face!)
http://youtu.be/Ry509xL-_tw
- I'm a gay man but I wouldn't mind Lisa Rinna's lips back in the day giving me the business. Wow.
- Please, for the love of the soap gods, let GH keep Kristen Alderson and especially Michael Easton. P-L-E-A-S-E. I can take or leave Roger Howarth, but I don't want the other two anywhere near the new OLTL.
- I'm curious how Susie Horgan and Thom Racina will mesh at NuOLTL. Susie's a traditionalist, while Thom is sci-fi and fantasy.
- r26, they are close friends IRL.

Interesting.

Sam: Who is Caleb Morley?
John (deadpan): The king of the vampires.

- Lucy: So now you've infiltrated the police department too?
John: Well, actually, it was a pretty standard hire.
- Alexis: Lucy?!
Lucy: I am trying to keep our town safe from the forces of darkness! COMBUST! What is the matter, I slayed you, combust!

kcguy
- It depended on who was writing for him.
The Voice of the Night
- R49, he was also not as assured of an actor as he is now.
He had some personal troubles - severe alcoholism - and it got him fired. Then he got on the wagon and was over at the Bell soaps for a while.

Of course, unmentioned was the third awesome member of that family, Rachel's mom and Livvie's grandmother, Estelle Reese, played by the late Beverly Garland.

- Did Jax GIVE Carly the MetroCourt, or did she get it in their divorce?
Maybe what she needed this whole time was her own side-gay.
The Voice of the Night
- I think Carly has owned at least half of the Metro Court for years. I believe they may have bought and built it together.
- When the Port Charles Hotel burned down, Jax bought the site and built The MetroCourt. He named it for Courtney, the insipid mouth-breathing blonde who was Frons' flavor that year. Carly was not in the picture at the time. Jax was later blackmailed into selling half of The MetroCourt to Carly, but it was doing a thriving business at the time.
- R86, Carly owned half and Jax owned half. Jax sold his half to Kate to stick it to Carly after they separated.

- They still need to have hate sex.
- I think they need to have hate sex, but they need to have it at a time and place where Carly can't either turn the responsibility solely onto AJ, or worse, claim that he raped her.
The Voice of the Night
- In the podcast intv with new OLTL writers Susan Horgan and Thom Racina linked earlier, Racina tells an anecdote about Doug Marland's house:
In the very special (ahem) men's bathroom at Marland's palatial estate, on the inside of the toilet lid, a photo of Gloria Monty was carefully taped to aim one's golden stream at.
Marland and Monty did not get on well at GH.
- RH and LW are cute and passable together, but it's a superficial retread of Todd and Blair.
AJ and Carly are the supercouple in waiting. They were smoldering.
- Racina tells another story about Liz Taylor calling Gloria Monty's office on Monty's emergency red Batphone reserved for Jackie Smith in New York, and ordering the writers to marry L&L post-Ice Princess instead of dragging it out another year as planned. "I'll be goddamned if you don't marry Luke and Laura!"

- [quote] In a shocking development no one could have anticipated, both Kale Browne and Mark Pinter were on set at JFP's Y&R today.
I think everyone could smell that Kale would be a recast Tucker from the second it was announced Nichols was leaving.
Having made fun of the FOJ's, I wouldn't mind seeing Tim Gibbs, Kevin McClatchy and Mark Derwin again. Three ridiculously fucking hot men, if you ask me.
- Marland was not willing to get on board Monty's campaign to turn Luke from a rapist into GH's hero. Monty went around claiming it was a seduction, not a rape. She taught Whoopi Goldberg how to split that hair.
- Did Marland suck on Kin's delicious feet?
Brooke Bundy
- Did Marrland and Kevin BAcon or better yet Jon W Shipp and Kevin ever get it on???
- No. Shipp was fucking Chris Bernau and Bacon was doing Millette Alexander who played his mother. Bernau dropped aging pretty boy Shipp the day Grant Aleksander joined the show. Supposedly Bernau's draw dropped to the floor when he saw Grant shirtless for the first time, as recounted by Denise Pence.
- So is it just me or did anyone else have a huge problem with the Felix/Todd scenes yesterday? Seems to me it just reinforced the worst possibly stereotypes that gays aren't suited for certain jobs because they can't control their "urges". Doctors and nurses, gay or straight, DON'T flirt with patients period. It's totally unprofessional behavior and it was very bad judgment on Ron Carlivati's part to allow the scenes even though they were clearly played for laughs. Not laughing, Ron.
- When it comes down to it, Ron's just another straight guy who sees gays as comic relief. I'm sure Frank would've put his foot down if he had read the script. He'd be the last person to want to see gay guys portrayed as stereotypes. Sometimes he puts too much faith in Ron, for good and for bad. This time, for bad.
- Ron is gay, too, R107. Unless you're saying that Ron is self-loathing, or something? Strange comment, either way.
- [quote] Bernau's draw dropped to the floor when he saw Grant shirtless for the first time, as recounted by Denise Pence.
Grant was and is a handsome man.
And he's packing a very, VERY big cock.
- Ron C is definitely gay and the scene with Felix and Todd was funny. Ron loves his campy dialogue, and the scene was a riot. Lighten up.
- Does Frank have a bf? Who was he fucking all that time in NY?
- Has Frank come out? I think he's hotter than hell, but I never heard him confirm he was out, unlike Ron.
- Seriously? Kale Brown is going to be Tucker McCall?
- R113 There has been no confirmation, but Kale looks very much like Tucker #1, and this would fit Jill Phelps' MO, so if Kale's on set taping...NO ONE would be surprised.
- R110 maybe I'm a little over sensitive to this having recently spent a few weeks in hospital. Funny, the docs screwing in the apparently unisex showers didn't bug me a bit because it's only a soap of course. But the relationship between doctors and especially nurses and patients is so intrusive that there's really no room for a swishy stereotype there. Playing it for a cheap laugh just seems all kinds of wrong to me. BTW, I knew that RC is openly out and good for him. But that just makes me all the more disappointed in him. kind of like black people who use the N word among themselves if you catch my drift. If you don't like that stereotype then don't contribute to it.
- GH is a cartoon version of fan fiction come to life under Cartooni. You can't take anything about this stupid show seriously, cuz Ron and Frank don't.
- It's true, r116. It's just a fantasy world of coasting entertaining plotlines which after the initial rush of spontaneous zest unveil themselves to be poorly executed and banal. There's very little substance on the show and you don't necesarily have to be SERIOUS to have substance. Nothing on GH under Frank and Ron is truly up for grabs - there is zero sense of mortality or pathos. If they want to do something truly bold they should have Jason's body wash up and be identified. I wish they'd just let the characters slow down - it's a soap opera. They seem to be charging all over the place from A to Z. Why not give us a few As to Bs to Cs for once.
- Doug Marland was gay and yet he grounded his characters. Ron just seems to write everybody as light footed and without boundaries, without anything at stake, without ugly traits or depressions. The actors look like they are having too easy a time on set because of this sterile writing. And that's what it is, Ron's writing. It's impotent. It's not primal, it's not passionate or lusty. It's too clean, too prim and proper and wink wink, nudge nudge at the audience. It's not strong.
- I went to SCHOOL with Grant Aleksander. Really! CLass of '79 at the McDonogh School, a year behind him. Granted, I was RARELY in class because I was traveling the WORLD chasing tennis balls, and trying to get away from Billie Jean King who was always trying to play GRAB-ASS in the shower. Of course, BJK was nothing next to the stunning piece of man-meat Grant. He put those PUSSIES McEnroe and Connors to shame with his CRANK. I used to tell my gal pals about it, but ol' Martina, Ginny Wade, Rosie Casals, and Wendy Turnbull didn't care. But when I told Evert, she would SALIVATE.

- I need to comment. Monica's face today was hideous. Someone needs to arrest her surgeon or her botoxoligist. There is just no reason for what she's done.
Now let's talk about AJ's shirtless scene. Couldn't they have waited on that until Sean Kanan got a chance to hit the gym.
- LA SLEESTAK IS BACK.

- No matter how a gay man is portrayed, there will be criticism from some factor who will bitch that he isn't gay enough or he's too gay, too campy or too straight.
Anyone who has a problem with Felix are probably the very ones who would act like Felix.
Don't expect Felix to represent every gay man that lives and breathes. He's just one guy who happens to be gay and chooses to flaunt it. I see guys like this every day of my life.
- Felix reminds me of Belize, and even looks like Jeffrey Wright too. I've never heard anyone complain that the way he talks to Roy Cohn is unrealistic. In fact his dialogue his brilliant.
Ron may not be Kushner, but he's doing a good job writing Felix.
- R116 and others who are so upset over Ron's writing, should just not watch. That is what I do when I don't like a show or it's writing. I find it rather strange that people who love to rip on the show keep watching; I think it just gives them something to complain about. The show is not Breaking Bad, but it is still good for a daytime soap, which have been dreadful for the last 20 years.

- Doug Marland relied on large casts to makes his soaps feel like a real community of interconnected people. James E. Reilly relied on gimmicks, but his stories were all rooted in love and romance. The Dobsons relied on eccentric characters and situations to color standard soap opera plots. Ron's writing is the kind of writing that was spoofed on the Carol Burnett show sketch As the Stomach Turns. His default is crazy and camp. He turned a good gay storyline and turned it into a joke. If you added organ music to Ron's writing, it would be every stereotype of a soap.
- True, Ron's GH is a total parody of soaps. GH under Gloria Monty had over-the-top stuff too, but the writing took itself seriously, so it didn't come off as campy. Ron takes nothing seriously.
- I just hope Agnes has some good stories left in her, because overall, she's just about the best HW ever in terms of blending drama, romance, camp and social issues. I want this new AMC to be as good as it was before Frons forced her out.
I never could really get into OLTL but I did like a good Viki/Dorian fight.
- I'm a bigger AMC fan too. I can take or leave OLTL. AMC had it flaws before Frons took over, but it was recognizable and entertaining. When he took over, he ousted Nixon, introduced that abominable Fusion garbage, and made Minshew, Mathison, and Budig the show's stars. With him gone, maybe it can get back a little of its former glory.
- But R123 Angels In America was all about the AIDS crisis and gay issues. In that context Belize was a portrayal of a very caring person who clearly fought on the side of the angels regardless of sexual orientation. I'm not getting that from Felix. He's just a cheap joke who gets to work late because he's busy checking out the goods at the gym, stands around gossiping and hits on hot male patients. Not a nice picture.
- R120, the show might be cancelled by the time they wait for that. I bet he's started to trim down after shooting that scene though.
- Erika, Robin, and Bob are essentials. Not having them on board would have left huge voids. Very glad.
They also supposedly signed someone NOT recent from a while ago, but no names yet.
- Horgan was around in the early/mid 90s, so if she has any true favorites who she wants on the show, I would look into that era.
- [quote] Ron's writing is the kind of writing that was spoofed on the Carol Burnett show sketch As the Stomach Turns. His default is crazy and camp. He turned a good gay storyline and turned it into a joke. If you added organ music to Ron's writing, it would be every stereotype of a soap.
You must be the I Hate Ron Carlivati troll!!! Have seen this sentiment repeated over and over and over here lately....
Yes, Ron goes too far in some of his plots. But I don't think that it's off balance to the degree you're claiming.
Ron also gets a lot of GH history (and OLTL history). And believe me, when you watch your show being torn asunder by writers who either don't get the history, or get it and want to dismantle it - as we fans of Guiding Light and As The World Turns had to watch - then it's a blessing when someone gets it, and that's why Ron and Frank's work is as acclaimed as it is.
Does he reach too often for the crazy-woman shtick? I completely agree with you there.
- "that's why Ron and Frank's work is as acclaimed as it is"
Oh, my sides.
- Was this thread linked at some soap site?
- Acclaimed by who? Some third rate soap journos? Reporters who will say anything to praise Ron and Frank simply because they are gay?
- R133 RC and FV get the GH history angle BUT of the remaining four soaps it's the most campy by far. That is not a compliment. The whole vampire storyline is so incredibly stupid. Now Duke is Caleb's buddy?! How many times has an actor come back to a soap to play a different role? As crazy as it sounds that new character they play are not to be confused with their old character. The writing on the show hasn't been that great either.RC and FV understand history BUT understand little about plot, characterization and good story-lines.
Another%20RC/FV%20hater
- r133 cannot be serious, and this is coming from a former Carlivati defender. But come on. His OLTL was consistently a hot mess after 2008 or so. Nothing original, the same overused plot devices over and over, bad new characters, choppy plots, etc. The only concession I will make is the Frons factor, and no one will ever know the extent of his specific involvement.
- Fuck it all.
Christine%20Jones
- Christine, dear, we don't like you. You'd probably get a lot more appreciation on this board had you killed Rachel in St. Croix. She went on to pollute our screens for another 19 years, and let's not forget about all that horsemeat that could've gone to feed all the starving childen in Sri Lanka. Begone!
Jason Dunlap
- R140
Speaking of the St. Croix storyline- anyone know who wrote that ?
I'd love to see a great storyline like that again. We'd never get the luscious location shoot but the storyline would be fabulous.
- I'm not saying that Ron is good and I'm not saying that he's bad. What I am saying is that he has three defaults. Crazy bitch, camp, and wink and nod at the camera. He has built good will because he brings back fan favorites and because the soap press like Jamey Giddens and Nelson Branco want to fuck him. Nothing wrong with either of those things, but as he ever told a story of substance, ever? Marlena walking around with the devil in her had more substance than anything Ron has ever written.
- Duke will be leaving the show
- R137 - It lasted two days, big whoop. I have noticed a real hatred coming from this anti-RC stuff on here, not just someone who does not like his writing. Hell I can't stand the writing on Bold and The Beautiful, but the writers are nobody to me and I would not get all that bent out of shape about it. It is not as though GH has had a ratings fallout from it. Just don't watch and that will solve your problem!
Anonymous
- R142 - Given the short attention span of today's audience, I think Ron's writing style is a perfect fit. They were already carrying on about the reveal of Sam's baby taking too long when back in the day it would still not be revealed. The art of good storytelling is unfolding it layer by layer and I honestly don't think, with all the complaining that people are doing about Ron, if they did start doing stories like that, it would still not go over that big. When something does not wrap up in a few episodes, the whining goes through the roof. Fortunately, I a fine with both styles of writing; but I don't see the old school writing (Marland, Labine) making a comeback anytime soon.

- R142 at least on DOOL it was camp done right. As crazy as Reilly's story lines were they seemed to have legs. RC and FV really don't. The fact that Faison and Duke were brought back was great BUT Faison hardly appeared.... what a waste.
At this point RC might as well bring back all the Cassadines including Stephen Nichols and Thaao Penghlis! While he's at it they can start a new Ice Princess storyline as well! It's nice that they are bringing back Kevin,Laura and Scotty BUT I'm worried to what they are going to do with them or rather to them!
- According to SOD, the new OLTL is recasting Matthew and Destiny (Eddie Alderson is in LA trying to make it big and Shenell Edmonds can't act). Also casting "Billy," a thirtysomething handsome, charming, naive man who falls in love easily without thinking and puts family first.

- Anonymous rumors from another board.
"Not sure they will make an official announcement since nothing is changing.. ABC doesn't usually do the 'we are proud to announce Todd, Starr and John are not leaving" kinds of things. Within the next ten days , producers are hoping to have OLTL and AMC fully cast and you will notice their names do not show up as contract players. That may be all the announcement we get unless DC or TVG or something just decide to give a heads-up on it.
B&B stories are not limited to three month arcs. In any case, believe what you want. Arc One of OLTL is going to be a Buchanan story. Everyone involved on a contract basis will be involved in the Buchanan story.. Todd and McBain will both make crossovers but they are not a big part of the story and they will not be leaving GH. That's all I'm going to say about it. Its a done deal, worked out, finished and both sides are very happy.
I think others are confirming that Todd is not going back to OLTL for the first arc, the show so you're wrong already. The first arc is going to be Buchanan, not Lord, based and neither Todd, John or Starr will be involved in it other than just as a possible pop-in.
And you are totally uninformed. Hang on, more will be forthcoming in the next few days but the first arc is a Buchanan story. With 30 minutes, 4 days a week, there is not time for more than one story at a time. This arc will be Buchanan based. Clint, Dorian, Bo have already signed on. Tina and Clint have been approached. Matthew Buchanan is being sorased. They aren't going to have the huge cast that the show did BECAUSE they can't afford it and they don't have time to showcase it. Therefore, there will be a smaller cast and they will all be involved in an umbrella story. This umbrella story is Buchanan based. Both Todd and John will make crossover appearances but neither will be involved in the big story.
First of all, there is NO B story. In a 30 minute 4 days a week format there will be A story. The cast will be built around the story rather than vice versa. The first arc features a Buchanan based story. Todd is not going to be part of it. I'm not the only one saying this by the way.
That me be so but according to a 'true' insider that I spoke with last night, all three will remain with gh. There will be extensive crossovers for both Todd and John during the first arc but the characters will remain with GH for the forseeable future.
And by the way, no offense meant to anyone on this board when I say "true' insider........I'm just using the term to indicate that this is not a message board person but someone i know for a fact has a true and legitimate connection to backstage GH. I believe many on this board have true cconnecctions that yield info but to the best of my knowledge no one on this board claims to work for the show and that's all I'm referring to when I say true insider.
I used the term 'fighting for survival' with a TRUE insider yesterday and was quickly informed there is no fight for survival. Gh has survived. They assured me that there is virtually no chance GH will be cancelled this year and , while they are anticipating a continued growth in ratings, if they hold on to their current ratings they'll last into 2015 and beyond. This from someone who knows.
Just thought I would share."

- Harding "Pete" Lemay wrote the Janice/Rachel/Mitch St. Croix storyline for AW. He admits it was an extremely popular storyline (it's where Rachel became impregnated with Matthew by Mitch) but he cites it as the beginning of when P&G forced him to write melodramatic stuff he'd previously eschewed, like murder trials, blindness, stabbings, etc.
- Predictably, Brian Gaskill has taken to FB, overexcited about the PC stuff on GH.
(Don't even think about suggesting he return, VOTN. That guy is on something and was dreadful on GL.)
- Gaskill is a fame whore. He tried to appeal to his fans to write in to AMC around 2006 so that he could get his old job back as Bobby Warner after Christian Campbell left after briefly playing the role.

- The Andrew Trischitta troll is my new favorite.
- Yeah, Brian Gaskill has been a complete bore in every role he played.
He played Dylan on Guiding Light, which had been played by Morgan Englund (Cloris Leachman's son). Morgan was very mellow and boring (pretty, but boring), but Brian made him look like Daniel Day Lewis in comparison.
- R164 You should have been here last year when the Andy T feets troll posted incessantly.

Even Ellen Wheeler got rid of him.

But she is not young leading lady material. And when she tries to sing? Oh, dear.

I don't think so. He started the Mac-Janice-Rachel-Mitch story but I believe he'd left by the time of the St. Croix sequence. Tom King wrote it.

but yeah, i know that all the oltl fans (and especially u gayz!!) really really need me to be back for the show to be able to continue, so im definitely hopin i can make some guest appearances and stuff as long as they have it in the budget to pay me some serious dollaz. and yeah, shirtless is great! when u have a body like mine, u gots ta show it off, right? ;-) ;-) i heard a rumor that now that theyre no longer on tv theres gonna be nudity, which im all for! im totes willin to get naked if its artistic and tastefully done. after all, i gotta give you horny gayz SOMETHIN to reward you for being such loyal fans, right?? ;-) ;-)

- If we must have a vampire story.. can Sabrina, Spinelli and the bitchy doctor (sorry, I don't know her name) be the first victims?
- R181, Tom King may have written that particular script but Harding Lemay was the headwriter during the St. Croix storyline.
- I love you R183 LOL
- You're wrong R185. Lemay brought Janice back in 78, but his story for her didn't not include the St. Croix arc. When Lemay left in May 1979, Tom King took the story in a different direction.
http://www.igs.net/%7Eawhp/credits.html
- I'd love for McBain to reveal he was Caleb all along. The show needs to just go for it since all credibility is out of the window.
- r153, r185
The Rachel-Mac-Janice-Mitch storyline in St. Croix aired on AW in Feb.-March 1980.
Harding Lemay left AW in spring 1979, after eight years as headwriter.
Thus Lemay was not the headwriter when the "Harry Must Die" plot aired.
Tom King and Robert Soderberg were the headwriters at that time. Lemay might have outlined the plot before he left, but he did not oversee it.

- R188 There are no vampires on GH; just the ones Lucy thinks she is seeing. They are obviously going to clear up the whole PC Vampire thing some way; I think it will be that it never actually happened.
Anonymous
- R188, they've gone this far they might as well make Caleb, McBain and vice versa. Given the fact that no one else in PC noticed this fact until Lucy comes back! Oh and Duke is Joshua too, right?
R195 If it never happened why would they bring it up then? I understand that TPTB want to give a nod to history BUT that portion of GH/PC's history doesn't need to be revisited.
- R196, truthfully I think the reason they might be trying to establish it was something Lucy thought she experienced, is because when Sarah Brown came back as Claudia (after being the original Carly) there were major gripes from some of the whackjob fans that everyone would notice that she looked just like Carly. Ergo, they might have thought they would get mega complaints that Lucy should have noticed John and Sam and Duke looked exactly like the vampires she dealt with. This is just a guess on my part but a couple of those soap boards have some intense posters who complain and carry on about everything. I just think it is funny; I have never taken soaps that seriously and if they want to insert humor here and there, it is fine with me.

- Lynn Herring can be very Marilyn at times:
http://www.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3D4-bw3U4t6Ws
- Lucy Coe was so outrageous and Lynn Herring was so good at playing her villainy. I remember an early scene where "mousy" Lucy got into a fight with a female character in a hospital elevator. The real Lucy came out at her sniper-like, bitchy, cruel best. When the elevator doors opened, "mousy" Lucy started sobbing like the other woman had been beating her. The entire hospital staff felt so sorry for Lucy and admonished the other woman. Classic. I think the other woman was Simone.
- Lynn is besties with DL fave and lesbian icon Dee Dee Halls. I wonder if, say, after a dinner party, Lynn and Dee Dee took the opportunity to scissor while Wayne went out to grab some Haagen Dasz?
Laurelton
- It's a good thing Mrs. Patrick Campbell and Miss Helen Bed are not soap fans. They'd have a field day with an actress whose last name is Herring.
- And I think Lynn Herring was sick for a while...rumor had it she had a bout of breast cancer though I am not positive.
I know Lucy was slated to come back much earlier than she did.
- R208. Dee and Wayne,Lynn's husband, are besties more than anything else. Dee spent some of the recent holidays on their farm. Maybe a menage happened....:)
R209 Ms Brenda Dickson IS a Soap diva and she thinks Herring is not all that. Her comic timing is too good to be on soaps. On the hand,Ms Brenda was pure soap camp!
Heather Weber was a complete nut.Heather Mattsson really nailed down the insane witchy character to a tee. Lucy was a bitch but there was something comedic in the way that Lynn portrayed her. She played her with her tongue formly panted in her cheek.
Lynn is still hot. I'm gay with serious bi-curious leanings. I would go straight for her. She ha such a wonderful smile, a kooky sense of humor and her body is gorgeous. She's really a beautiful woman for her age....
- It looks like the vampire story is a way to get Lucy in thenuthouse with Heather. I thinks it's more about the AJ and Quartermaine story.
- [quote]WEBMASTER /Please F&F the soap thread. It's been sitting on the front page for weeks and drawing soap trash from all over the web./ F&F please
Not bad, but back in Cheryl's heyday it would have been more like
"Editor: This soap thread is a clear violation of your firmly stated rules against interlopers. Kindly redtag OP as another soap troll and remove this thread to freaks and flames."
On the other hand, Heather Webber looked surprisingly good today, and Robin's acting was pretty great. Get her out of the asylum and back to mischief-making in town.
- And now Todd will join them! I really think this might be good.
- r22, count me in as another gay boy who would give Lynn one in a heartbeat.
- Interesting that the guys on the thread are hot for Lynn. I'm a lesbian that doesn't find her attractive. Agree that she has a great body, but that doesn't seem to be enough to get me there. Love her as an actress though, and am so glad she's back, even with all the vampire nonsense.
Now, Finola? I would totally do her.
- Lynn's face is a disaster area. She's not one whose face benefits from being underweight.
- R216 LH seems like she would be an animal in bed!She also seems like a ton of fun to boot. I like Finola but not enough to cross over to the dark side,though....
R217 Isn't she something like 55? She looks damn good for a 55 year old.
Can't wait to see what happens when Kevin comes back, should be rich........
- R218, I thought Lynn looked good until I saw a screencap of a close-up.
No, she doesn't look good.
- Good lord, Lynn looks fine. Leslie Charleson and Jackie Zeman have a little issue with the work they've had done, but you know what?
Honestly, I don't give a fuck. I'll take Monica and Bobbie any day of the week over Sonny and fucking Spinelli. For REALZ.
- I love Finola too but she looks like David Bowie so I've never found her desirable. Lynn has an amazing body. Laura Wright has a really nice ass too. Wait, what? I'm gay. I'm gay.
- Sonny's gross. I'm actually coming to the realization that I find none of the men on GH remotely attractive - and yet Lucy Coe is just adorably attractive to me - sexually, emotionally, the works. All the GH guys look like they've binged on steroids. Steve Burtn made me want to hurl chunks. Holden Snyder from ATWT and the two Bos on DAYS - those are what I call men.
- Yeah, I was about to say the same R222. There's few hot men on that show. Jason Thompson (Patrick) is it, really, Genuine hot guy and can act (amazing work this past year).
The charms of Steve Burton, Mo Benard and Scott Reeves were lost on me. Same with the guys who play Johnny, Dante and Spinelli. Bad Sopranos rejects.
Sean Kanan is a handsome, if average, looking guy, but compared to the rest of these fools he's looking like a Greek god.
- I don't find any of the men on GH attractive, but then again, I'm not supposed to.
However, if Sonny had a gun to my head and was forcing me to choose, it'd be between Jason Thompson, Sean Kanan, and Brandon Barash. Jason I think is the most handsome, and Sean I probably like just because I love AJ. Brandon is oddly charming, even though he's a little overweight right now and stuck in a shitty storyline.

- I think I've hit on Lynn/Lucy's appeal for us gays - she's amazonian, a perfect 10 like Bo Derek and yet she's not at all dykey. She's supremely feminine - it would actually be near impossible for any drag queen to do a Lucy Coe impression. So, is she so attractive to us because of genuine androgyny or what?
- When "Tainted Love," Port Charles' first vampire novela was airing, they had RuPaul on for a few episodes as a Miss Cleo-like phone psychic who was supposed to be Lucy's mentor. Ru said he did it because he loved Lynn and thought she was fabulous.

I used to think Dante was hot but not anymore. His terrible tattoos ruined him.
- Hey, how about Ingo Rademacher and Sebastian Roche? I know they are off the canvas currently, but I think the are both hotter than any of the current male cast. Sonny looks like he took a bath in bacon grease. Johnny is pretty cute but that is about it. I find Todd funny looking; his ear lobes are really weird.

- Funny post R182 Seems like everyone at Daytime Confidential and Source Soaps or TV Source, or whatever it's called, thinks they're bigger deals than the stars of the shows they're covering. Very snooty on social media, big blockers on Twitter, if you disagree with them on anything. The only ones who seem nice are Luke, who founded and runs DC and Dan J. Kroll of SoapCentral.com a total class act.
Then there's Nelson Branco, and does anyone know how Branco gets away with spewing the most obscene, disgusting talk about the actors on the soaps and gets away with it? I doubt there's an actor in the business who would sleep with that nellie troll and he still talks about who's hung. Basically gives a full rundown report of the full anatomy of all his favorite soap actors, like he gives them a physical and whips out a measuring tape before they goon the air.
I can't believe any of them are really pals with him, no matter what he claims. He's self-publishing an e-magazine total amateur-hour, poorly written overpriced mini-tabloid. This is because TV Guide Canada finally fired his unprofessional rantings on Twitter.
Can anyone who's posted here with real on-set info explain what the story is with Branco and why the shows and stars suck up to the crude pigs at DC who stab them in the back every week by finding as much fault as they can with everyone.

Your post screams straight frau. You seem to be turned off by a gay man discussing sex . You also seem to be bothered by the fact that some soap stars are friendly with a gay blogger.

- The guys at We Love Soaps are nice. They make a fuss over things but they are also supporting web soaps and trying to get people to take them seriously.
Daytime Confidential gets breaking news right a fair amount of the time, but listening to their podcast is painful. It is very much Not Ready for Prime Time Players. Amazed that Jamey Giddens got on stage here for a nationally televised show.
Nellie Branco is a shitstirrer, but he has some pull because he is blunt and honest about what many soap fans think. But he has his starfucking moments, and he would drop his allegiance to a star quicker than you could say "oral or anal?" He seems to be in constant drama with other bloggers/soap reporters.

- R229 There is something fabulous about Lynn Herring really. She's like an ultra femmey version of a drag queen. She also seems like a gay guy trapped in a straight women's body. For some reason she seems to be the type of woman gay guys would go bi-curious for.
The point about the girls on GH being hotter than the guys no doubt. Being gay I do find it sad that Spinelli is portrayed as some sort of stud muffin!I don't get it....Carly has nice eyes and is aging well , the same can't be said for Sonny. God go get a walker,Sonny!

- I doubt it's as cut and dried as you say R266. Admitttedly I haven't been to a straight soap site in about a year, but back when I did, at one site in particular, Branco received a lot of legit criticism. Only problem was that the straight chicks tainted it with their usual ignorant homophobia
- Branco loves to witch hunt soap actors. He has the intelligence of a gnat.
- Duke is not leaving the show. He is set to get mixed up in the ELQ story, and rumours are he will be getting involved with Anna's rival Tracy.
They are trying to work things out with Denise Alexander. No doubt she will be back for Laura's story.
- Branco once said that he wished he had been born 10 years earlier, so that he could have watched the soaps in the early 80s!!
Last week, he was trying to pick a fight with Michael Logan, for some reason. He wrote that TV Guide should fire Logan as their soap reporter.
- [quote]Branco once said that he wished he had been born 10 years earlier, so that he could have watched the soaps in the early 80s!!
LOL
- Nelson Branco is a very good writer who has excellent connections within the soap. He is an ideal person to be reporting on soaps.
He also has a huge EGO and loves nothing more than picking a fight or stirring up controversy. Clearly is working some demons out.
But the worst thing about it, he always acts surprised when people get upset. Even though its been happening for years, he still acts like he can't understand why people are upset.

I wondered about him because TVG has significantly slashed the number of stories he's doing for them. Didn't know if he'd been fired, or if he's sick.

maybe it has something to do with only 4 soaps on the air and a shrinking audience.
- [quote] maybe it has something to do with only 4 soaps on the air and a shrinking audience.
Even beyond that though - he was doing one every week or so and now they've got other people doing them, mostly.
- Wasn't Logan ill a few years ago? Cancer and chemo maybe? I seem to remember some really nasty women relishing the fact that "all that hair would fall out"
- Is Datalounge completely fucked today or is it just me?
- It's totally fucked, R280.

What connections? You mean that incompetent hairdresser at Y&R?
- A hairdresser at Y&R still knows a lot about what's going on inside the show. A connection is still a connection.
And the everyone knows that the make-up and hair departments are gossip central.

- His sources are other reporters...he likes to steal and call it his own
- So Chad Duel's marriage is being anulled? Don't anullments mean a marriage was not consumated? Is that correct?
- Thanks for the scoop, R271. Tracy getting involved with Duke in any capacity is delicious irony after Luke left her for Anna earlier in the year.
Back in June, Tracy gave an amazing speech to Anna about her dysfunctional relationship with Luke. It starts around 5:30 in this clip. Jane Elliot is just phenomenal.

- Logan still has a column in the print edition of TV Guide, but it's called "Daytime" (instead of "Soaps") and he's covering talk and game shows now. He has some questionable taste (he was a big fan of Passions and Bob Guza), but I always liked reading his column. I remember the time he referred to Megan McTavish as the "Typhoid Mary of Soaps."

- Long night, sorry. Obviously Jerry Ver Dorn has signed, not Clint Ritchie who has not yet been raised from the dead. Bob Woods has also apparently signed, so that is Clint, Dorian and Bo.
There is one other AMCer to sign not mentioned above - Jordi Vilasuso as Griffin. But that's if PP ever finds a HW for AMC. More than one writer walked away from this offer because the online effort is still a train wreck and before they made a deal with the WGA, they were pushing any writer hires to walk away from the Guild.

- Lindsay's hire was not a big surprise. She was very popular with fans during the last year of AMC. People loved her with both Tad and David, whose baby she was carrying at the end. Had the show gone on she would've been a big part of it.

Popular would be stretching it. She was OK, but hardly popular. And she only has about three facial expressions.
Her character got sympathy after Dixie and Tad reunited.

- Robin Strasser is once again a wanted woman! The legendary, Emmy-winning diva recently announced via Twitter that she will come back to One Life to Live as Dorian Lord when the soap finds new life later this year on the Internet. Naturally, TV Guide Magazine wasted no time scoring an exclusive chat!
TV Guide Magazine: This is thrilling news, especially since you weren't in the mix the first time Prospect Park tried to revive OLTL.
Strasser: Not because I didn't want to be in the mix! The people who were mixing it up didn't ask me. I won't lie. It's an entirely different energy now. Any fear I had that I was going back into something uncomfortable, or any fear that I might not live up to expectations felt totally surmountable once I looked at the bigger picture — that there's still life in One Life to Live! The fact that Prospect Park still had the appetite and desire and muscle and vision to make this a reality made me think, "Wow. I want to be involved in this. This is history!"
TV Guide Magazine: Speaking of that bigger picture, do you think this long delay in getting the OLTL and All My Children reboots off the ground was maybe for the best? Things seemed so desperate and crazy and rushed the first time around. Will we see better shows as a result of the postponement?
Strasser: Interesting question, but I think you'd have to talk to the people who were in the trenches at the time the plans collapsed — the ones who thought they had a job [with Prospect Park] and didn't. I was written out of OLTL on June 23, 2011, more than half a year before the show went off the air. As I ranted at the time, the loss of about 800 jobs per show should not be trivialized or dismissed.
TV Guide Magazine: I still can't believe ABC didn't bring you back for the OLTL finale. We so needed a final moment with Dorian and Viki [Erika Slezak]. How did you feel about that?
Strasser: Well, the show went out with enormous ratings and success and heat, and I know that was [exec producer] Frank Valentini's intention. I'm glad it happened that way. I have worked hard in the year and a half since I last played Dorian to try to let go of what didn't happen.
TV Guide Magazine: Did you actually meet with the Prospect Park peeps, or did the offer come by phone?
Strasser: I got a call. On Jan. 2. Happy New Year! It's such a gift. Not only
was I made to feel important but they have let me know in the most wonderful way that they consider Dorian to be key to the show. My God, it's been years since I heard that! [Laughs] Well, I hear it from my fans all the time. Their loyalty and love has been unconditional.
TV Guide Magazine: And they never gave up hope for OLTL!
Strasser: No, they did not! Via their energy and their social networking, they have proven to be tirelessly devoted. And that had an enormous impact. In their minds, it was never over, not even when the network said, "Stop already! Support The Chew! Support The Revolution! Support Katie Couric!" [ABC] tried to tell us to watch all sorts of things and to force us to believe that storytelling has a shelf life — and that is both anthropologically and psychologically incorrect! We need our stories! [Laughs] See, now you've got my blood going!
TV Guide Magazine: Won't it be wild having Agnes Nixon involved in OLTL again? That hasn't been the case in years.
Strasser: Agnes Nixon didn't just create these shows. She created jobs, fostered careers, changed lives — not just our lives but the lives of millions upon millions of viewers. That woman is as high at the top of the mountain as it gets and the more attention Agnes gives OLTL, the more blessed we will be. I can't wait to work with her again and, especially, to make this transition with her to the Internet. At my age, how many firsts are still left? To me, that's jet fuel. Even the part of this that's scary is jet fuel.
http://www.tvguide.com/News/Robin-Strasser-One-Life-to-Live-Return-1059363.aspx
- TV Guide Magazine: You? Scared? Of what?
Strasser: Getting what I asked for, what I prayed for. Mixed up in all the joy and the celebration is the fear of not living up to this. Do I deserve this? Could it be taken away? To love something so much and let it go and then have it suddenly come back is an overwhelming thing. My respect for this business is built on the premise that every episode is opening night, though I may have driven people crazy with that concept. Every episode, every scene matters deeply. At the start of each work day, I always think, "If this is the last performance I ever give, let it be a great one!" What can I say? I'm a drama queen.
TV Guide Magazine: Now there's an exclusive scoop! Has Prospect Park talked plot with you yet? Do we know what Dorian's been up to? Wasn't she sent off into politics at the end there?
Strasser: Who knows?
TV Guide Magazine: Didn't she replace some senator who had to resign after a sex scandal?
Strasser: Who knows?
TV Guide Magazine: Sore subject?
Strasser: I have erased from my memory things that did not ring true. Moving forward! However and wherever we pick her up, it's all doable, because she has always been a glass-is-half-full-of-wacky-juice kinda gal. In that way I'm just like my character, the queen of revisionist history. [Laughs] Just ignore the past and wear a great hat!
TV Guide Magazine: Toward the end of your OLTL run, you were dealing with a bad back. Feeling better?
Strasser: I still have challenges but I am working diligently on my physical, spiritual and mental wellness. When I left OLTL I thought I would be wheeled out on a gurney and straight into back surgery but, for various reasons, I have not gone that route. Right now, for me and my body, that's not the best course of action, and I'm full of happiness and gratitude about that. I am going to show up for work on the new OLTL fully energized, one hundred percent committed and ready for my close-up!

DAMN she isn't even playing. She did not like Cartini's story for her at the end, and she's clear it was Cartini that kept her off the show.
But is it because - as rumor has it - she's a batshit crazy old bird? Or was there something else happening? Hmmm....
- r320, I posted all of it.
That's not rumor. Robin Strasser is a legendary eccentric and difficult. But she is also dedicated to the work and to the show.
The Cartini part is more complicated. They loved her and she loved them, she still praises them to this day, but some of their stories were not the best. And in any event, RS is rarely EVER satisfied with any of her stories. She overreached on her illness claims in the summer of 2011 to try and make a play for more airtime and story, but Frank V, who is used to her showing out, was busy with the end of the show and the planned move to the web, so he called her bluff when she threatened to leave. Robin in her craziness felt she had no choice but to walk out. Frank and Ron thought they could work her back in near the end when the dust had settled from everything else, but they didn't have the time.
OLTL PTB for the last 10 years have viewed Robin S as a crazy but beloved aunt, basically. It's a love/hate push-pull relationship. Both are culpable sometimes.
- R321 sorry. Part 2 took a while to load I guess.
I'd heard those things about La Strasser. People love her work, though, and from what I understand there are some reasons behind her behavior (things that happened to her in her younger years) that justifies some of it. As you said, she's also very dedicated to her work.
The Viki/Dorian relationship is as tricky as Kay/Jill at Y&R. Have them fight too often, it's predictable and comes off as pointless bitchery. Have them make up and be friends, the relationship loses all of its dramatic tension. But perhaps the new PTB will recognize that Viki/Dorian is one of their "money" couples.
I did think the last few rounds with David made Dorian look like a fool. But it may be my own perceptions that Tuc Watkins isn't remotely believable as a straight man that's coloring that. David and Dorian was coming off a little Liza/David Gest to me, if you know what I mean.
R320
- Strasser is right as often as she is wrong, r322. It's just that sometimes she is never satisfied. Even when their taste was in question or her airtime was a little low, she has rarely had such big fans as Cartini at OLTL in a long time. I think in her heart she knows that which is why when she has critiqued story in the last 6 or 7 years she has pointedly not attacked them and has only praised them to the heavens at the same time. She's always been high maintenance, but she really gave it to scum like Paul Rauch in the old days.
There was a great story Kim Zimmer, who is also a handful, told in 2011 about her bonkers scenes with RS that summer, where Echo had kidnapped Dorian at a roach motel and Dorian was saved by little Sam Manning dressed as Spider-Man who webbed her up with silly string. That actually happened. Zimmer was asked why she did not complain about the scene, and Kim said something to the effect of, "god love her, but I had been in that hotel with Robin Strasser complaining for both of us all day long, and we just wanted to be out of there!"
- Kim seldom bitches about things as they happen. She likes to save that shit for the magazines.
No matter what story she was ever given at GL she complained about it. It was too much story, it was too little, she was too serious, Reva wasn't serious enough, she wanted something different than Reva scenes with Josh, why wasn't GL playing Reva and Josh - and on, and on, and ON.
- You're right, r324. But her book was still a great read and very honest about herself. I didn't expect that much class and candor from Zimmer.
- So where does Robin Strasser end and Dorian Lord begin? Seem like they're one in the same: the well-intentioned, batty/eccentric aunt who's endearing despite herself.
Lucy Arnaz
- R325 I like Zimmer. I've met her. Very interesting. Could fill a thread on her (and a lot of the GL stuff).
R324
- I thought it would be a cold day in hell before Zimmer's autobio book was more honest and even handed than Crystal Chappell's but that's what happened. CC is nuts.
- I haven't had the pleasure of reading the CC book. The site to order it looked a little sketchy to me and it's all of 100 pages. No thanks.
Zimmer's book thus far seems to be the best of the recent soap bios (though I haven't read Lucci's). Jeanne Cooper's book was mostly lame as was the book on Bill Bell.
Zimmer told some good stories, though her feuds with Cynthia Watros and Michelle Forbes were left on the floor.
- At least it was easy to figure out that Beth Ehlers was the married woman she was referring to-the one who had affairs with all of Harley's love interests.
- Though no mention was made of Beth and Cynthia Watros lapping at each other's labias...
- It's official: Jack Wagner (Frisco) is back and already shooting.
http://www.tvguide.com/News/Jack-Wagner-Returns-General-Hospital-1059407.aspx
- Is he sober?
NLG
- Robin is usually Robin's own worst enemy. If there was a problem, she would yell and cause a scene and then blab to outsiders. Erika, on the other hand, would finish the scene, calmly walk to either the current show runner or writer's office, close the door and lay a beat down on them. The door would open, suddenly things would change, and you would never hear about it again. The only time Erika almost publicly lost it was when she was working in a scene with a young actress who was just awful. Not only was her acting bad, but she would show up on set horribly unprepared. Not like a recent young actor, who was bad, but always came to the set prepared and ready to go to work, which put him in Frank's good graces. On soaps, your coworkers will excuse bad if you're on time, know your marks, and show a willingness to get better.
Kim was interesting. I got my start on GL when she was off the show. I believe on Santa Barbara. I would hear all of these horror stories about her. She hadn't made many friends, but they respected her talent. On One Life, she was pleasant and always making jokes about her weight. She had issues with Ron's writing, especially his writing for female characters. They had another story in mind for Echo, but the cancellation happened and couldnt follow through.

I WISH they'd invite Carla, Edwina and Jenny back!
- OMG, Edwina Lewis was one of my favorite characters ever! I wish! Although it would be sad without Marco.
- I'd love to hear more from Wardrobe Guy. Especially GL dirt. LOL!
- Wardrobe Guy - what really happened with Grant Aleksander in the last years at GL?
- I know that Wardrobe guy probably had to buy midlength boxer briefs for Grant. So nothing came tumbling out.
Ahem.
- NOT Wardrobe Guy here, but what I heard is that GL figured they could kill Phillip off and bring him back later.
Big mistake. He was the show's most popular male character.
I liked Kreizman's writing when he first came on (Jonathan's reveal, Roger's death), but it all went south pretty fast.
When they bumped off Phillip, I thought, well, that's the end of the show.
Just glad that he and several other favorites returned before the show went off the air.
Most everyone got a nice send-off, especially Ed and Holly, Billy and Vanessa, Josh and Reva, and the four Muskateers.
- [quote] NOT Wardrobe Guy here, but what I heard is that GL figured they could kill Phillip off and bring him back later.
Also not WG, but I know about this. It was more complicated than that.
Part of it was cost - this was when CBS really started cutting the rate they paid PGP for the show. About six months after Grant was fired, everyone had to take that 15% pay cut. (Well, almost everyone - not sure if Zimmer fought her way out of that, I know she protested it.) Ellen Wheeler said at the time Grant's dismissal was about cost. (They also hoped after firing him that he'd come back for less.)
Grant was very protective of the show, and admitted to being a bit of a perfectionist. People either like it or they don't. And while GA liked a complex Phillip, they were taking him down a really ugly path, so there was likely lots of conflict there.
Grant had Paul Rauch's support and respect during that era, but Ellen Wheeler was not a very powerful producer at that time - someone above Ellen wasn't having it with Grant's antics, and she had to carry out his firing.
The juicy gossip out there says that someone backstabbed Grant to producers or to the production company and that their complaints played a role in getting him fired.
When he was fired, Beth Ehlers (Harley), Liz Keifer (Blake) and Beth Chamberlin (Beth) came out in print to support Grant.
There was only one co-star who didn't, and that was Crystal Chappell.
(things that make you go hmmmmm)
- I can't really speak to anything about GL after 1994, it was after my time.
Regarding the two Todds question. I liked them both, but TSJ was my favorite. He could be moody and intense and you had to catch him just right, but most days he was a good guy. There was a lot of miscommunication when Howarth was brought back and some hurt feelngs, that got worked out too late.
Howarth was incredibly relaxed when he returned. Towards the end of his first stint there was some 'tension' among him and a few costars. Apparently, when he made the deal to return, he sat down with her and worked out their past problems.
I really have nothing bad to say about either one or really anyone who worked on that show, except for one person. But he's dead now.
Wardrobe
- [quote] Apparently, when he made the deal to return, he sat down with her and worked out their past problems.
That fits the story that has been on DL for years, which said that RH began negotiations with OLTL as early as 2008 and approached the actors at the Daytime Emmys that year. He patched it up with Kassie DP at that time and then with Florencia Lozano.
Thanks, anything on the Kish storyline and why it disappeared? Or any other stuff you feel like?
- Don't have enough time to go into Kish drama, but the network killed it.
Wardrobe%20Guy
- Some ninnies seem to think AMC/OLTL will be sold to cable. No way. That ship has sailed. And the only way for these shows to survive online is to have the characters finally use swear words like real people do and to have lots of nudity-and I don't just mean Triscuits' feets!
- Well, as long as we're dishing behind the scenes, my partner worked behind the scenes on several ABC soaps from the mid 80s to the mid 2000s, including Ryan's Hope, All My Children and One Life to Live. We socialized with some of the actors and production staff, and I have a ton of dish. Ask me anything you want about these shows.

- I worked on OLTL in the 90s. The cast and crew (give or take a few exceptions) were largely professional. The show was, to use a cliche, run like a tight ship. With the stringent daily/weekly schedules, there was no time for screw-ups or behavior leading to delays. Honestly, I only saw ONE young actor act like an diva but that was early on--and until an older actor took him aside and told him if he didn't shape up, he'd be fired. The young actor soon changed his ways and ended up being on the show for quite a while.
I never saw Robin throw fits or anything like that but I can tell you the crew was scared of her--when they found out she was returning to the show, they were a bit terrified.
Erika was always a study in professionalism and what the Wardrobe Guy says about her going behind closed doors to express grievances is dead on correct. However, there was one time (when I was not on set) where I heard how she got pissed off on set and was so annoyed that she stormed off with a phalanx of producers/crew trailing after her. That was a very popular story that was always being quoted on-set.
I worked with Roger quite a bit during that time. Again, a model in professionalism but he was very reserved, quiet, even standoffish (not at all social like Bob Woods or Hillary). I never saw ANY bad behavior between him and Kassie but it was clear their only interaction was on-set.
Roger had an issue with playing a gang rapist and with the show's attempts to turn his character whom he viewed as deplorable into a romantic hero. He was vocal about that.
Phil Carey was curmudgeonly--like Asa--but endearingly so and respected on the set. Clint ("Bucky") was very set into his ways. I didn't care for him. I remember coming onto the set many times and seeing him spray paint his bald spot. Strange man.
By the way, when I was there, Jimmy DiPaiva who played Max was in the directing pool--as was Frank.
- [quote]Don't have enough time to go into Kish drama, but the network killed it.
Please come back when you have more time and share the real story. Did they kill it because of negative viewer reaction as rumored? Also, how much of killing it was due to the love scene and how much was about the awful big gay wedding story that led up to it?
- From Daytime Dish:
Michael Easton will be pulling double duty between General Hospital and One Life to Live. I'm still unsure how this will be accomplished.
Kristen Alderson is set to head back to One Life to Live.
The biggest holdup is with Roger Howarth. He seems more than willing to return to One Life To Live but he wants it to be a shorter time period than planned.
It looks like the actors will have a two to three month stay on One Life to Live if all the details are worked out between the actors, ABC, and PP.
Expect some resolution and/or announcement soon.
- Foz McDermott OUT at Prospect Park!
- AMC headwriter to be announced momentarily. The guy who runs SON is pulling "I've got a secret." He is apparently ill and having trouble imparting any info.
- Marlene McPherson Named Head Writer of ‘All My Children
- [quote] Marlene McPherson Named Head Writer of ‘All My Children'
I'm OK with this. She did OK at DAYS - I think she was hobbled by Corday's interference.
It's not Pratt, Kreizman or McTavish. I'll take it.
- Supposedly she's getting a co-HW who's worked at AMC before, and Agnes will be heavily involved at first, so it is promising.
- Is the old girl really in any kind of shape to be heavily involved in anything?
The Voice of the Night
- She was on her knees and heavily involved in my cock last night. Expect my name to be announced among the returnees today.
Lenny Platt
- R371, no comment about Lenny's working class background/name? It saddens me so.
- Here is what happened with the Kish story:
To understand it, is to first understand that OLTL had been quietly marked for cancellation for quite some time. The plan was for a two soap lineup, AMC and GH.
Ron is a great guy, but for a while there he thought that he could do no wrong. Frank, who has great instincts, didn't rein Ron in. Everyone was happy with just Kish, it was all the other stories surrounding them that started creating problems. The ratings began to tumble and the network was worried that GH would be affected. The network didn't really care about OLTL because it was going to cancelled anyway, but they were worried about GH. So the network stepped in and said get rid of all of it. Which they did.
OLTL began turning itself around and the ratings got much better, eventually doing better business than both AMC and GH. This is when the plan to cancel OLTL went up in smoke. They couldn't cancel OLTL and keep AMC, so the network decided to cancel all three. It was Brian Frons who begged to keep GH on the air. Without Mr. Frons, GH would have been gone last summer.
- Typical Frons. Fuck OLTL, Guza's GH must be spared at all costs! And now Guza is gone and Ron and Frank are saving GH.
- The young teen who has been taping with Erin Hershey Presley (husband of "fucking Brian") and ME in the Port Charles vampire storyline on GH has a character named "Rafe".
The PC fans will not need a roadmap to work that one out.
- Kid's full name is apparently Rafe Barrington.
Dare I hope Heaven's first meth addicted angel has gone back to the stars?
- Thank you r373. Very interesting story. On a side note, I think FV may have also put his foot in it by firing long time vet Patricia Mauraci for objecting to a scene where her character, a staunch Catholic, becomes giddy with joy when she mistakenly believes it's her son and not Fish who is gay.
Regardless of how much I may disagree with PM personal beliefs she was right in this case. The scene was stupid and totally OOC for her character.
It's really a shame because in Carlotta they actually had the perfect vehicle to address the religious right's POV without resorting cardboard villians or buffoonery like Dorian pretending to be a lesbian to get elected mayor. JMO but I think all of that was off-putting to both sides. Bracket that with the Moraso Fiasco and I can see why poor Kish didn't stand much of a chance. Too bad because better handled it may have actually opened some eyes.
Thanks again for the BTH peek.
- That's not true about Carlotta. She was very gay friendly in the 1990s.
PM had gotten religion in the intervening years and tried to rewrite her script.
- "Cah-dah-LOW-tah!" I hated the way Dorian had her pronounce that name. So pretentious and condescending. Strasser was a Grade-A bitch.
- Could someone post a full frontal nude of Grant Aleksander please? Thanks in advance, guys!
Tony%20Geary
- Wow R380, that's really taking the thread and hi-jacking it!
I hope someone sends you that photo immediately so we can get back to Llanview!
- Was Clint Ritchie gay?
- I wish the show would bring back Mia Korf as Blair and give Kassie a new story. Ron C. is a terrible head writer.
- [quote] I wish the show would bring back Mia Korf as Blair
I think you may be the only person alive that wished for that!
- "Who Killed Alison Barrington" is rumored to be the developing murder mystery for February sweeps.
My%20prayers%20have%20been%20answered
- r382, Ritchie was not gay. He had a LTR with Candace Earley, who played Donna on AMC for many years.
Talbot Huddleston
- Clint was, from what La Sleestak has said in interviews, really close to what the original character of Clint was. He was a cowboy, not much of a "star" and not into all of that kind of thing.
Sleestak loved him but I think his reluctance to "play the game" probably earned him a label of being aloof.
- Sleestak most certainly did not love him in the later years. In fact, she was supremely against being repaired with him in any way in 1997.
- She and Ritchie had chemistry. verDorn is a good actor, but his feminized Clint is a totally different character.
- JVD's Clint was many things, but he was not "feminized". He became a badass in the show's last six years and drove story tremendously.
Clint Ritchie was a talented but difficult man. After he passed, Erika told her fan newsletter that she'd had issues with him over the years but that he was a great actor and a loyal man. She's spoken highly of him since but has also been candid in saying that he was no picnic.
- Jerry ver Dorn is many things but feminized is not one of them!
- R390 we must be on the same wavelength!
From Sleestak's newsletter:
[quote] What memories of Clint come to mind? ERIKA: You know at
this point, you only remember funny and good things. We had a good time – we worked for 20 years and he was a very funny guy. We laughed a lot. He could be rude, he could be delightful, he could be obnoxious – you know, all of the things that all of us are. But I remember him being
funny, and he was very warm.
- I knew RC was laying groundwork when Heather crashed the Q Thanksgiving. She had access to Edward's will alone before others. This is how he used to write at OLTL. Seed story points for later.
The Pickle Lila inheritance to Tracy is also not a gag or a cruel joke by Edward, who loved Tracy. There is a hidden meaning to why Edward gave that jar to her too.
- Jane Elliot really, really needs to win the Emmy this year. Tracy's had a great year, and Jane is so under-recognized for her fabulousness.
- I saw Clint Richie at a soap event at a mall in Fairfax, VA. Mid 80's I think. A stage was set up in the mall - the small event was him, the guy who played Cord, and some woman from another soap I didn't know. At most there were about 30 to 40 people there.
He was scared to death. Visible stage fright. Turned white, shaking. The audience was asking questions, but nobody asked him cause I guess they felt sorry for him. So I asked him something easy - something about Erika. He was nervous but took the microphone and answered me. He seemed to relax some after that. But he was extremely relieved when the whole thing was over.
I found it odd that an actor would be that uncomfortable. But he was.
- Wardrobe Guy
Any tales about my queen- Beverlee McKinsey ?
I worship that woman.
- thanx for all the congradulations gayz, im super stoked to be back!! the producers have promised me therell be lots of jack-centered storylines, u guys will be real happy about that! plus i told them they have ta write sum scenes where i show my ass - i was like "i gots ta give my gayz what they want!!" so u guys can look forward to lots of fun jerkin it while u stare at my naked ass - its SO flatterin how much u guys luv me and its really much appreshiated!!
c ya real soon in landvu!!

- R394 Jane Elliot is really a treasure isn't she? I remember when she was on in the old days of GH and how I missed her. She had incredible chemistry with Wally Kurth on Days as lovers and on GH as mother and son. She's one of the few actresses that can take manure and make it into chocolate mousse.
- I still love the Beverlee story about her complaining about a script and saying, at one point (I paraphrase slightly):
"I could eat these words and SHIT out a better script than this!"
She was fabulous. What she could do with the intonation of her voice alone puts many others to shame.
- How about the time that Bev, frustrated after yet another scene with Vicky Wyndham phoning it in and sleepwalking through their scenes, turned to the other actor in the scene, Paul Stevens, and quipped, "they shoot dead horses, don't they?"
- Clearly, I need to be in Ferncliff, see as how I've enjoyed both Sonny's scenes with Anna and Connie and Carly's scenes with Felix and Sabrina.
The Voice of the Night
- I'll join you at Ferncliff, VOTN. I enjoyed the scenes too and I only started watching this soap last summer.
kcguy
- VOTN and Kcguy, I think that the Heather meets Lucy scenes put everything else to shame really. This is where I hope the RC/FV regime puts that story on the front burner. The carnage those two could do in PC is unimaginable.....
Felix is fabulous isn't he? There's something cool about Felix and Sabrina as a team. The Carly meeting wasn't as cool as when Felix fist encounters Lucy but he made it wonderful. He's a talented kid I think he's going places.....
- [quote] How about the time that Bev, frustrated after yet another scene with Vicky Wyndham phoning it in and sleepwalking through their scenes, turned to the other actor in the scene, Paul Stevens, and quipped, "they shoot dead horses, don't they?"
I've heard rumors that their rivalry offscreen was far more juicy than the one onscreen.
Everyone seems to be on Team Bev. (of course!) I liked Wyndham well enough but I think she was on 'ludes half the time.
Paul Rauch was reportedly inspired to go to 90 minutes for AW in part to separate the two - then they only had to be on set / on screen together one day a week.
- When they decided to bring Iris back in the late 80s, they approached Bev about returning. Bev, not thrilled with her GL story at the time, still decided to stay with GL because supposedly she didn't want to work with Wyndham again. Wyndham got wind that they were bringing Iris back and went to EP Michael Laibson and threatened to quit if Bev returned. Vicky got along much better with Carmen Duncan, who was not a diva.
Wyndham was also threatened when soap vet Denise Alexander back in 1986. Denise knew that Wyndham was the big fish at AW (something Linda Dano learned very early on...which is the reason Dano and Wyndham became friends) and was warned ahead of time to tread lightly around her. Denise and Wyndham kept their difference and, at Wyndham's insistance, barely interacted on screen.
- Douglas Watson and McKinsey were very close, though, weren't they? Did they stay in close touch after Bev put AW behind her?
- The biggest disappointment of FV/RC's GH is that Maurice Bernard signed a new contract. I really thought he was on his way out. Now they are sticking him everywhere (a bizarre scene with Anna in which they compare notes on their love lives! Tracy calling him for help in her war against AJ) just to give the hack something to do. Kelly Sullivan rocks whenever she is on screen, but even she can't make Sonny and Connie remotely fascinating. Poor Sullivan - she deserves better than MB.
- How did all these AW queens invade a GH thread? At least OLTL has charcters on GH and RC and FV were at OLTL.And AW wasn't even an ABC soap as well.Wyndham...a complete bore, a non-beauty and a gutless diva.Start a dedicated Another World thread.
- Waiting for the reported Johnny and Liz pairing. Brandon Bareass is so hot, and a nice thick guy.
I am also loving Sabrina and Felix. Ditto Ellie.
I have been waiting for scenes between Lucy Coe and Heather Webber since I was small gay child. I cannot wait for Scotty Baldwin to return.
GH has been a much needed addiction this past year. So glad two gays were able to keep this show on the air.
Soap Whore
- Bev also didn't care much for Hugh Marlowe, whom she thought was unprofessional. She loathed, and I mean loathed, Laura Malone, who fancied Blaine the new bitch diva. Bev did not suffer fools. She kept mainly to herself, but her allies on the set were Anne Meacham, Gretchen Oehler, Irene Dailey, Jim Poyner, and Paul Stevens. She respected Connie Ford a lot, and she and Doug Watson were close, but Doug and Connie were also close with Wyndham, so she had to be a bit wary.
- I am waiting for Johnny/Maxie. He wants to be paired with her. And there are those rumors about BB and KS. Their tweets are very flirtatious.
- Makes me wonder about Bev at GL. I know she wasn't exactly a Kim Zimmer fan. Didn't dislike her but wasn't exactly her biggest cheerleader, either.
- I really don't get the appeal of the actor playing Spinelli... or the character.
- R413 It was funny when another character basically called Spinelli a stud muffin! I'm paraphrasing of course. Maybe Spinelli can save Maxie from the odious pregnancy plot. He's not a good looking guy but any means BUT hausfraus need to have their comic relief and Spinelli is ........at least looks wise that is!
- Bev was very old school and didn't care for the "look at me act" method that characterized Zimmer. She became friendly with Chris Bernau and had always respected Maeve Kinkead from their AW days, whom she felt had a similar low-key approach to the material...essentially a less is more approach. Bev wanted to quit in the late 80s when she was paired with Gil Rogers. She had nothing personal against Rogers, but their acting styles didn't mesh and thought the writing made no sense. She went to P&G, and they put a kibosh on that relationship. She had fun working with Larry Gates, though. She was very fond of the younger set on GL, especially Aleksander, Irizarry, O'Leary, and Judi Evans. She definitely mentored them. And of course, we all know she and Zaslow didn't hit it off, and was actually a bit taken aback about how popular the Alex/Roger pairing was.
- When was Bev paired with Gil Rogers? I can't recall them having scenes together, but I remember Hawk and Alexandra when Marj doing stuff. He'd call her 'Queenie.'
I don't get it when big talents won't work together or hate each other or whatever.
Their job is to make it work.
I suppose they all look like big stars to us, but they're really just people trying to hang onto their jobs and not work with a-holes.
- Soap Whore, that Heather/Lucy meeting was so delicious. I liked how cunty Heather was.... throwing in the fact that Lucy stole Alan from Monica.Lucy became more camp/humorous(though she always wasn't) whereas Heather was one crazy cunty bitch.
Are we getting the good Scotty or the bad Scotty? I would be a trip to see him fuck with Luke especially if he is with Laura.
It would also be fun to throw in the Cassadines again. I wouldn't put it past RC to reprise elements of the Ice Princess storyline again for the big anniversary.
- Alex was briefly paired with Hawk sometime in the mid-80s, I think between Pam Long's two stints. They were trying to make Alex a little more down home and had her bowling, etc.
Michael Zaslow and Beverlee McKinsey fought as far back as Love Is A Many Splendored Thing, but both knew that their pairing was good story for a while, although Bev got pissed at how stupid Alex was about it all for a while. Her patience was rewarded with those GLORIOUS country club scenes, perhaps her finest moment at GL.
Whatever she and Zaslow fought over, it carried on for years. After his death when she was asked about him, she said that his illness and death was very sad, but "we were not friends."
- Just got done watching today's episode. Can't we get Muchael locked up again in prison, this time with Johnny. Then we could revisit Michael getting seriously fucked.
I would love to see A.J. and Carly as a couple. They have serious chemistry.
Really pissed Todd and John are going back to OLTL. They add a lot to GH, and John is making me actually enjoy Sam McCall. That is one of the signs of Armagedon.
Soap Whore
- Is this board a good place to start a rumor that AJ isn't working out as planned and the producers are looking to recast.
Billy%20Warlock%2C%20desperate%20and%20broke
- Soap Whore, Todd and John are not going there permanently. As a matter of fact, John is doing double duty on both soaps at the same time!
I like Kelly Monaco, she is fabulously adorable.Hopefully, she won't be used for the rumored vampire redux storyline....Remember, KM has played multiple folks on GH.
AJ coming back was quite cool.I like the whole ELQ storyline as well.Jane Elliot is doing a bang up job on the show, as usual.
- So, if Johnny and Todd ended up in the same cell in Pentonville, who would be the top?
The Voice of the Night
- For those complaining about all the AW/GL posts, there's a new thread called "Monticello" - check it out.
http://www.datalounge.com/cgi-bin/iowa/ajax.html%23page:showThread%2C12384315
- How is it that John McBain, a horrible character horribly played, who sucks the energy out of every scene is in with his overwhelming blah-ness, is so in demand that he is going to be on TWO soap operas at the same time?? Do fraus love this character or something? He has always been incredibly unappealing to me.
- 100% sure Johnny. Todd could be on the receiving end of a serious fuck. Marty finally has her revenge.
Soap%20Whore
- R424 I can't stand him either, but he's essentially the adult version of Edward from Twilight - a rebel/loner type, long hair, wounded puppy dog eyes, misunderstood, blah blah blah.
I mean, I'd fuck Michael Easton, but the mumbly monotone characters he's played do nothing for me.
- Michael Easton is an unsolved mystery in the fact that I cannot fathom WTF appeal he has. Bad actor, bad physical shape, old and dirty looking. Completely and totally ruined OLTL.
- Johnny is one of those tough boys who is country boy strong. Todd would have to open up his puss-he for a permanent humping!
McBain......yeah he's not a good actor. Many soap people are blah actors. Fraus love his mumbly voice and brooding looks that's what lets him get by in that world.
R423 Thank God. I couldn't stand one more comment about those inferior and "for good reason cancelled" soaps.
- "I can't stand him either, but he's essentially the adult version of Edward from Twilight - a rebel/loner type, long hair"
UGH, his hair is one of the things I hate most about him. Seriously, didn't that hairstyle go out with the '90s?
- Don't I remember a really humiliating scene of ME on Ally McBeal. A penguin?
- Piss off R428. They're not inferior. GH is doing much better these days but it was saved from the axe by the slimmest of chances.
- And don't tell me OLTL fans have to once again endure Alderson's bad-acting mug.
- Moooooooooooooo! Mooooooooooooooooooo!
I'm back!
Bovina
- R418, Hawk was paired with Lillian in the mid-80s.
I think Alex was with HB -- or sparring with him -- when they went bowling.
"It ain't over till the rich lady swings," she said, I think.
Yes, Alex's trashing Raj at the country club was brilliant.
There was great follow up, too. I remember Alex asking Mindy, what did I ever do to you that you slept with my husband?
Mindy didn't know what to say. There was no answer.
- I have no issue with Alderson. Guess I am in the minority. I watched OLTL also so I guess I'm used to her. There are so many returns going on at GH it is almost unbelievable. Francis, Shriner and Wagner are all on the way. To be followed by Sabato Jr. It seems like ABC have given Cartini free reign ti do whatever they want and I am loving it. Would love a Felix/Fish/Kyle triangle. P.S. Anna is being such a bitch to Duke. All over Luke, give a break.
Soap%20Whore
- R430 Michael Easton played the nude model in Ally's sculpting class with the enormous penis, no?
- Me either R435 I've watched her grow up on that show.. I would prefer it if she didn't sing. But the character and actress doesn't bother me.
- I used to think she was cute a few years ago when her hair was darker.
I agree on the singing though.
So is the TSJ/Victor storyline finally going to be wrapped up on the new oltl?
SBP
- Cartini have had serious designs on wrapping it up on GH by tying it into the ongoing storyline with Robin and the Cassadines. TSJ would make a guest appearance.
With OLTL back on it's anyone's guess.
- TSJ would do a "guest appearance"? What they hell is he so busy doing? I really like him, but I always get the impression he is really arrogant behind the scenes.
The most ironic part of GH is that as soon as Steve Burton left the show they started to receive all this buzz and press. I much prefer Sean at A.J., over boring Jason. Sean always has this mischievous look on his face I find very attractive.
I give Maurice Benard credit for staying with GH even though he has been seriously sidelined. GH used to revolve around Sonny, now he is just part of the gang. All the other characters used to talk about Sonny endlessly, these days he is hardly mentioned.
Soap Whore
- TSJ is going to be in TARZAN 3D with Kellan Lutz!! Not making this up.
- R431, Butt hurt a bit too much? GL, AW and ATWT and all of Proctor and Gamble soaps are dead and gone. Unlike OLTL and AMC they will not have a second life on the internet. So the ABC soaps all live on in some measure....
Alderson is moving over to OLTL, I think she might move for good though. She's not bad looking but she's no goddess either.
TSJ? Didn't he do an indy film? He probably fancies himself a real actor. Soap actors are considered to be bottom of the barrel ,he probably wants to become a "real" actor......the snob.
- That Tarzan 3D movie sounds prestigious, but it's actually a shitty looking Eurotrash CGI animation picture.
TSJ has been dragging his feet but was willing to do the guest appearance on GH to finish the Victor story. Pre-GH, for their turn at Prospect Park's OLTL, Cartini thought they would have to recast Victor, and the new PP team probably will a year later.
- R440 Which is why the show is so much more palatable these days. I can actually tolerate Sonny now. Besides, where else was MB going? He has one option maybe - join his former soulmate Jason on Y&R; he left the show for the big time years ago and came back. The problem with becoming a soap superstar is you don't realize that outside of the soap world no one really knows you and you are no big deal. Hardly any soap actors go on to bigger things. For every Julianna Moore or Tommy Lee Jones there are hundreds of nobodies.
Anonymous
- MB was willing to play ball with Cartini and accept a supporting role on the show. Steve couldn't handle it.
- R442 -I think she might be going to OLTL for good also. She has bombed on GH.
Anonymous
- Any dish on Farah Fath? Heard that she would bitch to Fronsie about other actresses taking up her valuable screen time. Fans loathed her with a passion because she give them the finger or simply tell them to get the fuck out of her way.
- Prospect Park has an audition side out today for a new JR Chandler, since Jacob Young is back on B&B eyeing all the twinks. Predictably JR is back to whining about not being in control of the Chandler empire even though he ended the show by shooting someone.
- It would have been far more interesting, to me, to have had JR kill himself, and have them pick up the action that Dixie and Tad would be coming back to town for the first time since that happened.
Certainly shootings are a timely topic and understanding how a town deals with something like that...would be a great story.
- r418, Bev's Alex was never paired (or attempted to be paired) with Gil Rogers' Hawk. That didn't happen until Marj Dusay. Hawk and Lillian were involved in the mid 80s. I don't know who you could be thinking of. The only almost-pairing Bev's Alex had that began but went nowhere was with Don Stewart's Mike Bauer, but that was very early on in Bev's initial first few months on the show. They started Alexandra as quite a man's lady, having an affair with both Ross and Warren and dating Mike.
- Let's just all ignore r442.
- R450 Yep, someone upthread corrected me, it was Alex and HB that were sort of having little dates here and there.
PS, GL and other PGP shows are now discussed at this thread (so the GH fans don't get unhinged)
http://www.datalounge.com/cgi-bin/iowa/ajax.html%23page:showThread%2C12384315
- So Easton is going to do nuOLTL temporarily and continue to appear on GH? What's the poop on Roger Howarth? Same deal or will he be going back to Llanview permanently? How do he and Easton really feel about this? Starr could stay on GH for all I care. I just don't think she's that vital to OLTL especially if they have Kelly Missel signed.
- Alex and HB were having more than little dates here and there - they had a major romance (engaged to be married) that was a major factor in the famous Spaulding takeover story in the late 80s - a part of Pam Long's second stint as HW.
If she did complain about Alex's romance with HB, I couldn't blame her. That aged Alex considerably, and it just didn't fit with Alex's penchant for bad boys (her Gothic relationship with her brother Alan, Eric, Locke Walls, Ross, Warren, Roger, and bad boy-turned-good adventurer Fletcher Reade). It was lke Alex fucking her grandfather.
- I really don't want Starr back. Or McBain. Or Todd, for that matter. It will be good to have them back for a bit to let viewers know that AMC and OLTL are back, but they should go quickly.
I love that they've gotten just about everybody important back for OLTL, but few for AMC. It really speaks to the mess that ABC made of AMC, both in interference with storylines, and moving the show to LA. They uprooted the AMC community of actors and crew and PP seems to be paying for it.
My only wishlist for OLTL is to have Roxy back (even if on recurring), and can we undo Gabrielle's death? Please? Other than that, I really like where they seem to be going with it. The fact that they brought Strasser back sealed it for me.
PhD%20who%20is%20fascinated%20by%20soaps.
- I would much rather they bring Tina back. Now that was a hussy.
- nuOLTL does not need any of the horrific characters who drove it down in its last years, and that means McBane, Bovina, and any Todd.
I too would like to see Tina and Cord in some recurring capacity along with finally casting some viable actors for CJ and Sarah. I also think it would be a good idea to bring Max back with his twins. If they want all these younger characters, it's best to start with one related to vets.
- It's an absolute thrill to be rid of Todd, Starr and McBain. For the first time in years, I am excited to watch OLTL.
- R458- Starr is going back to OLTL and McBain will be on both shows... only holdout right now is Todd.
- r459, no fucking way. We don't want them back.
- What about Max Holden? It's time he came back. Gabrielle needs to be revived. Alex Olanov? What's Tonja Walker up to?
- I don't think AMC/OLTL fans realize how different this online experience will be as compared to their TV viewing experience. I think they all think it will be like before, but there will be little differences that will alter their whole nostalgic memory experience. It will take alot of getting used to. I hope they stick to it because I really want to see these things succeed, not only to stick it to ABC but also to open up the venue for a whole new era of storytelling.
- They are taking it back to basics - no sets, no action scenes, just characters and dialogue. It is just what we always wanted - FACES!!!!!
Norma%20Desmond
- The spoilers are indicating Erin Hershey could be onscreen as Alison and then dead as early as the end of next week. Leaving twinky son Rafe behind for his teen triangle with Molly and TJ.
- What Prospect Park are doing is reviving soap opera for the United States of America. By utterly depriving the two shows of budget, they are FORCING them to rely on good storytelling to sustain interest. EVERY soap opera should have its budget completely slashed. It's time the actors were made to sing for their supper. No more bullshit.
- R481 Gabrielle and Alex were my girl crushes on that show. As a gay boy, I thought that they were the most fabulously beautiful things on that show. Gabrielle could be such a bitch on that show with her hot English accent. Tonja was something else wasn't she? I like DePaiva he was great on the show, he had a great swagger and an impish smile.
- Who or what is Bovina?
Late to the party
- Bovina = Starr Manning
Bovina meaning bovine (cow like), of course.
- I think it's safe to say Tonja Walker could be making appearances given that Josh Kelley is signed on as Cutter, Alex's son.
I really do think OLTL needs another tentpole couple or family, and no, I don't mean the Mannings. I like the idea of Tina/Cord or Max/Gabrielle coming back and remaining as a stable unit.
Several things I don't find promising -
David Vickers being back. Just cringe-worthy on every level. I want Dorian Lord to exist without having this buffoon attached to her.
The idea that there is any need for McBane at all, unless there is one final scene of Natalie cursing out his dirty ass and throwing him to the curb.
Starr. This insufferable troll. If there was ever a need to recast a character....
No seeming plans for Kevin, Joey, or Jessica. But, I would take no Jessica over Bree Williamson in a heartbeat.
- I think the worst part of David Vickers is that Dorian exists to serve him when he's on the canvas. I hate what that character brings out in Strasser and Dorian.
Jessica can stay away. We've got Natalie, a character not completely destroyed, so we're good.
- Is Aubrey Wolek-Dane returning?
Austin's Pecs
- I would have been fine with no David and no Natalie. I can't stand either character.
Thank baby Jeebus that Jess/Tess/Bess/Wes/Hot Mess isn't coming back, either.
- hated OLTL had to have a finale, but loved how they did it.
The scene with Brody and Jessica was sweet.
I'd like to see HIM back, not necessarily her though.
- A definite YES to Mark Lawson coming back. I would take him over Seponski-lite Josh Kelley.
Too bad Erin Torpey lives in LA. I'd welcome her back as Jessica.
- Starr has run her course on GH. She has no job, she is Michael's girlfriend but they are a real snoozefest. Just takes up space. GH has Laura Spencer and Scott Baldwin returning. Much more exciting than Starr or Todd who need to go back to where they belong. Since ME was on PC and Sam needs a new love interest, he can stay.
Anonymous
- I am also a YES to bringing back hot midget Brody with his huge furry pecs and his flip-flopped feets (see link).

Late to the party, now up to speed.

- Sean Kanan and Laura Wright are smokin' hot.
- I'm another one who would love Mia Korf back. Her Blair was a subtle slut. I HATED how Blair was reintroduced in Miami in a hot tub with some random dudes.
Elaine Princi, Mia and Laura B all looked like a family. Robin Strasser screwed that up when she came back as a red-haired Dorian and then Blair and Kelly were the blonde bimbos.
- I can't stand Jerry V as Clint. They should've brought him on Asa's brother, the father of his crazy nephew Rafe.
- Yep, very nice guy but Ver Dorn was never believable as a Texan. Which is why he was so perfect as Ross Marler on GL.
- Mia was the best Blair
Andrea was the best Tina
- [quote] Mia was the best Blair
Um, no.
NO.
- Okay, I've been very, very, very skeptical about this but now I have to hyperventilate. And if the two great writers on OLTL hold up like they should, well...

"Some really cool news about a couple of American institutions: “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” are coming back from the dead to love you once again. But that’s not the big deal. Presumed-dead-love-of-your-life always finds a way to make it back and sweep you away. This is how soaps work.
Here’s the big deal: They’ll be exclusively on Hulu every day starting this year. Fans of watching people get left at the altar and faking comas—unite!
Seriously, people. This is a good time to call your mom. She’ll remember down the line. Then watch some, too, by mistake, and get addicted."

- It took me a looong time to warm up to Kassie but when I did she had me for life. The work she did during the Live Week episodes was incredible. She never has gotten enough credit. Hopefully she will on the revamp.
- Finally, confirmation on Alison/Erin Hershey.
Kevin's first airdate is Wednesday, along with Alison (and Caleb's?) son Rafe. EHP apparently airs somewhere around there. Kevin has a more grounded version of the Port Charles story to tell John and Sam, but Alison agrees with Lucy - it was vampires.
"According to the ABC Hot Sheet sent out the thousands of fans for next weeks episodes (week of January 28 – February 1, 2013), and posted on the ABC.com website, Alison joins Lucy in her belief that John McBain (Michael Easton) is in actuality Caleb, only to find herself at a crossroads of danger by weeks end. But will John be the one paying the ultimate price? To find out what happens, tune in to “General Hospital.”

- Oh, dear God, Alicia Minshew might go back to AMC. I'm all for Bianca returning but not Kendall. Kendall is one of the main reasons the show turned to shit.
- The question remains whether it will be free on Hulu, or if there will be a fee for it, same with iTunes.
I could see if the episodes were 69, or 79 cents, or were available with a very affordable subscription. But I don't think people will pay $2 or $3 an episode four times a week.
- R488 I loved Mia Korf. Not only was she exotic but there was a certain danger in her portrayal. I love Kassie she wasn't very good at hiding her Southern accent now was she?
Karen Witter was OK as Tina. She was less camp than the original. She also didn't have those hideous bags that Andrea Evans had either!
R494 I think you're right. The way to get most viewers would be to do it for free on Hulu with commercials. I really don't see charging for it as a viable option......especially for 2 dollars per episode.
R481 Didn't OLTL have better ratings than GH did when it finished its run? ABC probably regretted cancelling the wrong soap.....
- Max and Asian Blair having sex on top of her wedding dress was hot! They also had a dancing scene that was hot but is nowhere to be found on youtube.
Why can't PP find a TV distributor to air the episodes? Surely a smaller cable network could use the boost of 1 to 2 million soap viewers.
- I can't believe there is a Mia Korf troll.
Just when I thought I had seen it all ...
- R496 Soapnet would have been the perfect place right? However Disney has canned it in certain parts of the country. One could only hope that if The Chew is cancelled OLTL and AMC could take its place......
- Free to stream to your computer on Hulu (with commercials). If you want to watch on your TV you'll need a subcription to Hulu Plus. Or if your clever you've probably figured out you can plug your laptop to your TV with a DVI cable and not pay for shit. No clue what the charge will be on iTunes. Didn't Sony have a subscription package back in the day to download episodes of DOOL? Seems like I used to do that and it was only a few bucks a month.
- [quote]The question remains whether it will be free on Hulu, or if there will be a fee for it, same with iTunes.
All content on Hulu is free. Hulu Plus is a monthly subscription which allows you to watch some content that is not available on Hulu or to watch on a mobile device or TV with a Hulu Plus app. I'm not sure if Apple TV or Roku also require Hulu Plus. I think it's 7.99/month.
There will surely be a fee on iTunes. But I'd assume that would be a purchase of a downloadable file, not a stream.
- PP confirmed earlier this week that the OLTL sets were indeed trashed after the finale was taped. They have built all new sets so Llanview will definately have a new look and feel but it will be shot in HD. I guess Llanfair was long overdue for a remodel anyway.
- Hulu Plus is available on Apple TV, Roku and Google TV. I'm already a Hulu Plus subscriber so this is gravy for me.
- I'm usually a half full kinda guy, but this is going to be the biggest mess from the m to the s. The only thing good is that Andy T will be back and finally legal.
- I can't imagine this project lasting beyond a year. There are plenty of people who are not computer savvy.
- It's not that the people aren't computer savvy, it's just that soaps appeal to a majority demographic that doesn't watch TV online. And what until the people who do watch TV online see the skimpy sets and shitty wardrobe.
- The only sensible way to deal with the casting of Blair for the re-boot is to have Mia and Kassie engage in a sing-off, and whoever croons a country ditty best gets to play Blair.
- R503, you made me giggle. Bless you.
If we could see Thorsten Kaye's bare buttocks as he grinds away on his whore of the week or hear Opal say "Shit, fuck, piss" at Petey's latest fuck-up then these reboots will be worth it. But we won't so they won't.
- People wee-lll pay to see ME!!
They will not be reluctant to pay at-tall!
Sleestak
- R508, does Ms Erica know that you call her that name? How can one mix up a creature from a Johnny Whitaker kiddie show and the grande dame of everything soap? Goodness the woman is the most down to earth diva of all time. I remember after Hugh Grant had his scandal and appeared on Regis and Kathie/Kellie Lee Whomever she(appeared right after Hugh Grant) so emphatically stated that:"Hugh Grant has beautiful hair!" what a bizarre comment that was, I guess that being on OLTL all that time did something to her mental state.
Ms%20Brenda%20Dickson
- A lot of pessimism around here. Prospect Park does not give two shits whether 80 year old granny is able to stream "her stories" on Hulu or not. They are not going after that demo. And the arguement that people won't watch online doesn't hold up to me when you consider how much of a soap presence there is on the web. Consider the dozens of soap websites, chat boards, even the presence here on DL. The OLTL audience is plugged in and will be able to find the show online. Will they watch? Well that will depend on story. There has to be good story. We never watched these shows for their high production values anyway so its success or failure can't be measured by that.
- [quote] If we could see Thorsten Kaye's bare buttocks as he grinds away on his whore of the week

- R510, I love soaps, always have. I'm a white, college educated 45 year old gay man with a few dollars in the bank and an early adapter, but I am very aware that I am not the typical soap viewer. This will never work. I give it a year. The sets are going to suck, the wardrobe is going to suck and to be truthful, soaps don't appeal to people who watch TV online. There is no new audience for soaps. Soap is a tradition that is passed down or you're drafted into in college.
- [quote] to be truthful, soaps don't appeal to people who watch TV online. There is no new audience for soaps. Soap is a tradition that is passed down or you're drafted into in college.
I disagree, but it can't be the same format from 60 years ago. It's going to continue to change and evolve.
People are still sitting down and reading big Harry Potter books. They are intrigued by continuing stories.
- I'm sure when soaps moved from radio to television, people said the same thing, 'many people don't own and fewer will watch a story on tv'.
- R514 I grok you BUT there's been a change in the demos for TV that have been seismic. PP will be narrowcasting on the net as opposed to ABC going all out and putting these back on the network. Even then , how are the demos for those soaps? PP isn't going for the old school frau and grandfrau. The younger the better. To that end, Eterna will make a comeback mark my words.....;)All done in CGI but it will be gloriously campy fun all the same.
- I doubt they would be able to afford a CGI Eterna.
The Voice of the Night

- Voice, that's why I put the ;)(wink symbol) there! I'm dying to see these new sets and clothes. They'll probably make the current DOOL sets look like Gone With The wind in comparison! AMC and OLTL will make Kristen's hotel room set look grandiose...bet on it.
- Ellen, dear, I certainly do not mean it in terms of filming in parks and on street corners. I meant in terms of time and episodes filmed. They are only doing roughly 25 minutes four days a week with half of a normal cast. Look at B&B. They don't have nearly as many sets as shows like GH and Y&R.
- If they have a Hulu deal then they already have more money than Ellen Wheeler ever had.
- They also apparently have a major financing deal with ABRY.
- Just to give you a general idea of what you're dealing with.
Days - It costs roughly $800,000 per week to produce 5 episodes of DOOL.
GH - It costs roughly $900,000 per week to produce 5 episodes of GH.
Y&R - It cost slightly over a 1 million per week to produce, and Sony has asked to cut about 20% of budget.
B&B is roughly half of YR's budget, so in the $450K to $500K range.
PP is planning to produce these shows on a budget of $250,000 per week.
I don't have a dog in this fight, other than wanting soaps to succeed. But, I hope you diehards string up the first queen who complains about wardrobe and sets.

- R521 Supposedly Ellen Wheeler had more money on GL than what Days is currently spending.
Sony wants to pull a Days budget on Y & R? No surprise there. In addition Y & R has the 4 day a week shooting schedule in place whereas Corday at Days does 3 weeks on and 1 week off. Sony will probably pull the same thing with Y and R.
GH is still shooting 5 days a week? Hard to believe with what the Sony soaps are doing.
According to James Scott(EJ from Days), one of the major problems with the ABC soaps is that they didn't shoot on time and on budget. According to friends he still has(he was on an ABC soap), they would go overtime more than needed.
Jilly on Y & R must have something on a Sony boss because they have been slashing budgets not raising them. Then again Ed Scott tried to pull or wanted to do something similar on Days when he ran it and Samigate ran him out of Salem.I wonder how successful Scott was in getting money from Sony to punch up the sets because it looked like he put the money back into his pocket!
- If Ellen had that budget on GL then she was purely and simply even more incompetent than we previously thought. DAYS looks cheap but not THAT cheap, and if Gary Tomlin was better at his job it wouldn't have to look that bad. I also blame Corday.
FV is the master of pinching pennies and making gold. He should still be masterminding the PP production effort, though I am glad new and talented writers are getting a shot at OLTL. Ron loves the show but he needed to be reined in.
JFP and Guza ran GH overbudget for years with the big stars, Guza's fees and the CGI sweeps stunts, and it was rumored ABC would rob the other soaps to pay for its overages. I don't know how she intends to cut the budget by adding Steve Burton alongside Y&R's other major stars. I have a sinking feeling she may be planning to kill off Nikki Newman, which - good luck. Many others have tried to smoke MTS. They tried and died, as Sian Phillips said in Dune.
- In addition to their apparent capital and the big Hulu deal, the new OLTL and AMC are also only doing 30-minute shows for 4 days a week. So that may help.
- R 525 Funny how you mentioned Sian Phillips, she belongs in that camp acting thread! She wasn't the worst BUT Dune was hysterical...unintentionally so but funny nonetheless.
I wonder how much Corday is pocketing these days(pun intended)? He won't take a cut now would he? That would be bad form for a producer too.Why would teh general take the smallest pencil when he could give it to one of his fading stars.
Wheeler's cinema verite' thing was an attempt to save money BUT it looks like it didn't.No matter people still are used to sets and the like.I could make a Jersey joke here but I won't.....
Nikki Newman....Scotty's wife.Wasn't there talk that she would do GH at one point?EB and Vicky have played their roles for so long they've become part of the scenery! What a slow moving ,cold and sterile show, she's emblematic of that languid pace of The Old and The Bored.
- Build two or three cheap sets and otherwise shoot it in the streets, ya wankers!
Eastenders
- Sets are irrelevant. Just give me good acting and writing. I could watch Sleestak and Strasser go out at in front of a white wall.
- This talk of cheap sets has me envisioning sparse vaudeville skit styled backdrops like the ones used on old variety shows or on The Honeymooners ie, a wall with a painted on black wood burning stove (replete with stovepipe) next to a painted on window with Pricilla curtains and a single flower pot resting on the sill. Or picture Jesse and Angie having a picnic in front of a minimalistic trompe l'oeil sketch of Willow lake. Hysterical.
- Mary Stuart said that when they first started doing Search for Tomorrow in 1951, the sets essentially consisted of a black background and light fixture hanging from the studio ceiling.
- AMC and OLTL are also going to share sets. Llanfair will probably double as the Chandler Estate, only redressed. IIRC, one of the most expensive things about producing in NYC were the union rules that sets needed to be struck everyday, shipped out of the studio to the warehouse, and then shipped back. In CT, they will be able to build permanent sets, which should help the bottom line considerably.
As for fashion, does anybody watch for fashion anymore? Put them in clothes from Target, and get Target to sponsor the shows.
I think that PP's ultimate goal here is to use AMC and OLTL to launch a suite of online programming, so they will be patient. They spent the last year getting money together, so they are not going to pull the plug after 3 months. It's been rumored that they need 250,000 viewers a day for this to be successful, which is not so far fetched. And I think that if AMC and OLTL are successes, they will launch a new soap. They can split their CT studio investment in three and take advantage of all of the orphaned soap actors still in NYC.
I'm really excited to see where they take this.
- I wonder if there's a secret villain lair somewhere where Jerry, Dr. Obrecht, Faison, and Helena Cassadine meet for cocktails.

- Wow, Jack Wagner's first airdate is February 4th. And Kevin and Alison are on next Wednesday.
Laura shows up on Monday, February 11th. I believe Scott's first airdate is the following week, and I am still hearing they are married when they arrive.
AMC and/or OLTL is set to start taping by the end of February with OLTL at least on the "air" by April.
A Jax return is rumored to be part of the upcoming Jerry story with Robin and the NB, as is Helena and the Ice Princess which this umbrella story is all supposed to link back to for the anniversary. Now all we need is Jonathan Jackson, who was going to appear in November with Luke until TG hurt his back (I don't want to know how). And Brenda.

- They're not going to be buying Genie Francis' wardrobe exclusively at Port Charles Tent and Awning, are they?
The Voice of the Night
- I wonder what Heather is going to think about Scotty and Laura being married. Scotty and Heather were the best when they were together as the town pariahs. I would love for Tony Geary to take a year or two off, and for Genie to join GH fulltime. Stephan and Nik can also come back.
Soap%20Whore
- With JFP, Riche and Guza all gone, one would hope not.
Genie's also lost a LOT of weight since those days. She looked like a million bucks the last time she was on in 2008 and gave Luke and Tracy what for, as well as on Y&R.
http://www.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DrdCW7SO6cVk
- r538, Genie is apparently back long term. But I suspect that depends on TG, too.
Deadline is reporting that GH is presumed safe for at least another year due to ABC's change of management and change of heart. But we won't know for sure until February or March.
- Luke can have all the scenes he wants with Tracy and Anna, but if Laura walks into the Floating Rib (or whatever other watering hole the show has these days) on Scotty's arm and they play 'Fascination, it's all over.
Or even 'Rise.'
- RC worships Luke and Laura, so it's coming, r541. A reunion has been on his boards for a long time.
But Laura perfectly expressed your same sentiment herself in a scene with a conclusion that somehow got past the Guza writing corps in 2008. They had been spewing Guza and Geary's same adolescent "outlaw" sentiments about Luke/Tracy for weeks and Tracy says them herself in the scene, but Laura dismantles it all with a few lines.
And Jane Elliot's reaction when Laura exits is perfect.

- Duke (of all people) takes a job at ELQ next week. Will be spending a lot of time with Tracy in the ELQ business war storyline. Don't know if they're going there.
I want Tracy to have a real love interest, because she is fantastic. But I want Duke to stay with Anna. A Tracy/Duke/Anna triangle could be good, though.
- [quote]They're not going to be buying Genie Francis' wardrobe exclusively at Port Charles Tent and Awning, are they?
Wyndham's maternity department has a lovely selection!
Maxie
- In other news, the world is safe from viewing Kale Browne on Y&R. He will not be appearing onscreen. Instead, it seems JFP will continue to supplement her fuckbuddy's Medicare by giving her more voice work as a "radio DJ" in Genoa City, just as she did for the many years he voiced the hospital intercom, TV news reports, etc. on GH.
This should leave Kale plenty of time in his twilight years to pursue his now full-time job as the shambling spectre of death who one day will come for us all.
- What happened to the Monticello thread ?
I think the WM cancelled it. It's probablly best to just try and get 1 thread under the radar.
- R536 Supposedly there's a rumor going around that Luke sees a dead Cassadine. Who might that be? Stephan(who we saw killed BUT he it's a soap opera) or Victor(who died off screen)? I know Days fans love Stephen Nichols(and rightfully so) but another Cassadine needs to jump o board to wreck havoc.
Soap Whore ,it would be great to bring on as many Cassadines as possible. Too bad Tony kicked it though.......he was great. What was weird is that tony had a Belgian accent, Victor an Australian accent and Mikos a Canadian accent! This is a classic case of soap opera accent confusion if there ever was one.
- And that clip at R542 is the reason why Guza's GH is head and shoulders above the cartoon that GH has become now. Adult stories, dark and disturbing, worthy of cable.
- R543 I want Duke with Anna as well, but she's behaving like an asshole right now. So I wouldn't mind seeing him get a little attention from Tracy. If anything, it will most likely drive Anna crazy and hopefully knock her out of this self-absorbed stupor she's in.
- r548 is still Bob Guza.
And that story was crap.
- Some of RC and FV's best work at OLTL, great script and acting from Kathy Brier. Throwaway characters like Marcie and Michael were never better before or after this story, although Chris Stack was a much better actor than Nathaniel Marston, who was arrested and fired weeks later.
Also, Dorian and Langston, who got short shrift after the writer's strike. And Timbaland.
http://www.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DqdOO2TAURMU
- The climax of the "Marcie on the run" story flawlessly tied together with the story of Viki getting away from it all in Paris, Texas and meeting Charlie, Gigi and Shane. I continued to enjoy his OLTL warts and all and I still really like his GH, but this was before RC got really indulgent and at times very lazy.
This was perfect soap. They knew all they needed to do was put Erika Slezak in a room alone with Kathy Brier and a gun and that would sell tickets. IIRC OLTL, the writers and ES all won Emmys this year.
http://www.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DuLX30WC-Sf8
- More of Marcie and Viki.

- Kassie DePaiva just tweeted that OLTL should start filming on February 18th.
- R550, R548 is the I Hate Cartini troll, who posts pages after pages on how much he hates current GH.
He apparently lives at the corner of Grumpy Old Man and WE DON'T GIVE A FUCK.
- [quote] This should leave Kale plenty of time in his twilight years to pursue his now full-time job as the shambling spectre of death who one day will come for us all.
Bwhahahaha!
- I could do with some young shirtless Cassadine heirs to romance Lulu, Liz, and Maxie. Uncle Stefan could also return for his Lasha. Felicia and Mac could be on at least 3 times a week with Lucy and Doc. Anna and Duke need to reunite (after she stops acting like such an ass). Brenda would return and get a decent storyline. Olivia Jerome returns from the dead to create havoc on Port Chuck.
Soap%20Whore
- I wouldn't be surprised to see Tonja Walker return as Olivia. Cartini love TW and the Jeromes were name checked as part of the backstory for Duke's resurrecton, with Victor Jerome having had him sent to the Turkish prison and replacing him with the "Jonathan Paget" fake in Port Charles. They'd probably even find a way to explain her resemblance to Alex Olanov.
OTOH they'd had plans for Alex and Alex's long-lost son Cutter (Josh Kelly) on the new OLTL, and Kelly is signed to continue playing Cutter on OLTL with or without Cartini. And at least one of the two HWs there was working at OLTL in Alex's heyday, so I wouldn't be surprised to see her in Llanview instead.
Then again, she could probably do both.
- I pray Kale Browne never reads these hurtful remarks.
This is how Laura's reaction to Luke having married Tracy should have gone.
Laura, Luke is married.
"To who?"
Tracy.
"Tracy...who?"
Tracy Quartermaine.
"Tracy Quartermaine who?"
- I really wanr some Laura and Anna scenes. I wonder what Laura will think about luke's passionate love for Anna. Really like everything on GH now. However, I have had enough of crazy Connie.
- Connie would be o.k. if she was not on every single day. I like her when she is not paired with Sonny. That ship has sailed. The should give Sonny a severe alcohol problem, and Brenda could pick up the pieces after he loses everything. As a result he leaves the mob for good. Skye needs to come back and repaired with Jax.

- [quote] Supposedly Ellen Wheeler had more money on GL than what Days is currently spending.
She had far less than any of the hour shows listed in R523's post to produce GL after the cuts in 2007. The budget was more in the neighborhood of what you listed for B&B.
The cut was huge - almost 50% of what GL had been operating on, which was just under a million.
That more than anything was the reason she shifted a lot of production to Peapack. Storage costs for sets ALONE was costing 15-20% of budget.
R523 I don't mean to challenge you but isn't DAYS production week more like 7 or 8 episodes in a week?
- Hi
- So Exciting.
- R562 The quote that GL had a bigger budget than Days does came from an actor who worked on both shows.Take of it what you will, but Sony runs Days sucking blood from a stone.
Also Days shoots about 7.5 episodes per week not 5. They shoot 3 weeks a month and go dark a week.
R561 DeLeon should have shown up on GH dontcha think? He would have been great there.
- I've talked to actors, producers and crew for GL and I heard different numbers. Not questioning what you heard, but wondering if there would be any difference in state rebates or union fees.
I was in Peapack, and it is just as dreadful in person in the house sets as it was on screen. But the outdoor scenes were nicer, I thought.
- The Peapack era of GL was fascinating in its dreadfulness. All of the characters were suddenly poor or they sure seemed like it--an interesting (?) reversal of latter-day soaps' tendency to have too many rich people. 15-20 minutes of every episode would feature characters shambling about in odd outdoor locations, like the corners of parks or the police department parking lot, while terrible, terrible music played. All of the women seemingly stopped wearing makeup. Crystal Chappell's character lived in a teeny-tiny hotel room where the bed took up 50% of the space. 70-year-old Riva got pregnant.
- It actually got better as it went on, R567, and some of the locales worked nicely. But they were literally using every available space to shoot scenes and some of them were never intended for TV.
I did hate the pseudo rock and roll music, though. But this was all an attempt to look more like reality TV or The Real World.
- Let's be honest, it didn't get that much better.
And the music.
J.
- R566 I had heard that Ellen(Wheeler that is) changed the locales for both artistic and monetary reasons. It was obvious that something radical had to happen to save the soap evidently it wasn't enough to suit CBS. Heck it was on 10:00 am in the morning at the end wasn't it? Sheesh talk about killing a show.
I'm not a fan of Jersey BUT they did what they could at the time to save the show. It was either that or GL was gone.
- Yes, but R570, that could have done in areas not including the basic production model. The hand-held camera work and drastically underpopulated locations were hideous.
- R570 Well, my take on it was the last 6 months were worth it. The characters acted (mostly) the way I remembered them and it was better to have them do that vs stop a few years before when it was all still the Santoses, Gus and Harley, blah blah blah.
I think it might have worked if given time but the change to the new filming happened just as the writer's strike hit and that really fucked them.
- I don't think any of GL after the production model changed in '08 was worth it. The show was barely plotted beyond a few weeks and was a nightmare to watch as well as produce. The actors and crew were dealing with terrible conditions. The "stories" were barely there and changed on a dime.
- I'd agree for most of it R573 but I thought the last months were better. Unfortunately they didn't let the right writer (Jill Lorie Hurst) be HW until the cancellation was all but certain. Phillip coming back was all her but it was too little too late.
- I think they only had eight actors on their roster in the last year, too, which, for an hour-long, five-day-a-week soap is too few.
But%20Peapack%20was%20the%20larger%20problem
- I heard that when Maureen Garrett came back for the finale, she complained about the situation in Peapack (specifically that they weren't given time to rehearse), which caused Ellen Wheeler to have a fit. Wheeler then cut the number of Holly's scenes because she wanted Maureen out of there as fast as possible. Can anyone confirm that?
- What's going to be the name of the new thread?
GL in the Peapack days was a hoot to watch - on one side of the park Jeffrey would be discussing how awful it would be if Edmund was really alive, while Edmund would be sitting on a folding chair under a tree on the other side of the park sipping a drink, gleefully relishing in the fact that he was still alive. We were supposed to think that it wasn't the same park. It was like a bad YT video of a family reunion.
Scraping the bottom of the barrel.
- RE: the last episode, they had a scene at the baseball field. The actors didn't have baseball gloves and were catching baseballs barehanded. Seriously: I have never seen anything like it in my many years of TV watching.

True. MG even spoke about it to a degree in Soap Opera Weekly.
I understand Maureen filmed more scenes than they used, mainly because Wheeler was mad once that story hit the presses.

That about sums it up.
My other favorite moments of the Peapack debacle included Alan Spaulding hanging out at the gas station "mini mart" (actually someone's office) and explaining that he went there to get away from the high-pressure corporate world. Also, when they had the interior of Reva's house which was actually a producer's office, and they were getting their soap from giant industrial office soap dispensers.
I made this thread and it moved way fast, so it's someone else's turn. Maybe we should stick with CoeCoe, or mix it up with a different cosmetics firm?
OP
- [quote]R523 I don't mean to challenge you but isn't DAYS production week more like 7 or 8 episodes in a week?
I thought it was pretty clear that my figures were based on a 52 week year regardless of how the show decides to shoot episodes. I apologize for the confusion. To make it easier. Soaps produce 240 episodes a year, give or take.
Days costs $160,000 per episode
GH costs $180,000 per episode
YR costs $200,000 per episode
BB costs between $90,000 and $100,000 per episode
The Prospect Park shows will cost $62,000 per episode
Just to give you an idea of what kind of money is being made off of these shows. NBC makes about $250,000 per episode off of Days of Lives. CBS makes close to $400,000 per episode off of Y&R. Selling a week of Days of our Lives and Y&R to all foreign markets combined nets Sony millions of dollars per week.
- When this thread hits 600 it automatically closes, right? Could whoever started it begin another one and let us know what it will be called?
And, I would really like to read dedicated threads for the P&G shows and the classic Lorimar primetime soaps. I'm think I might pay my $18 and join, but will I get banned just for starting a soap thread?
Anonymous
- r582, all I can say is that both VOTN and I have started these threads discreetly. We both pay our $18 and have survived. I don't know why others have failed. I think the smart move right now is to stick to one thread - that seems to be the message being sent, IMO.
OP
- Thanks for the figures r581. I've wondered about overseas sales of the soaps and how much they contributed to profitability. Knew the Bells were heavy into foreign distribution early on and that's how they made $ on their shows (Y&R was very popular overseas) but what about the ABC shows? GH used to show in the UK in the 80s but I'm uncertain if that's still the case.
Would a lack of foreign sales contribute to cancellation? If so why didn't ABC try to leverage this market. Also do your figures above include foreign sales or just domestic profit per ep. Many thanks.
- r582 I've never seen the webmaster delete threads on the nighttime soaps (Lorimar, etc). He seems to save his sometimes ire for daytime soap threads only. And that's only in the face of complaints from other posters. He closed the recent Steve Burton unemployed thread early (did he delete it too? Haven't checked).
You could probably start a thread here about primetime shows without issue.
- Maybe that's the trick R582. Make it all about Lorimar shows.
- IMO a primetime soaps thread would attract way too much attention. They (Knots Landing, etc) are very popular and get all sorts of DLers in those who would crack down fast. Best to keep with something with an innocuous name.
- If you're going to make a Lorimar primetime soaps thread, make one. That likely won't get touched - KL, Dallas etc are all safe. Preferably call it "Lorimar primetime dramas" just to be safe. But DO NOT use it as a daytime soap thread. Trust me, it's a bad idea. Keep them separate.
OP
- Like someone suggested a very vague title like "The bulge in so and sos jeans"
- I can understand past issue with these threads but it seems really unnecessary to delete them now.
I wish we could start and sustain two threads like the Theater folks have - one for current shows, one for past. And just those two.
- [quote]I understand Maureen filmed more scenes than they used, mainly because Wheeler was mad once that story hit the presses.
Well that sucks. Holly was an integral part of GL's history. Wheeler should have put her personal feelings aside and not compromised the final days of the show just to send Maureen some kind of message.
- They had about three seconds of Lisa Brown (Nola) on, too. That sucked.
But Lisa improvised a bit where she looked around inside of Company (a very different Company than she was in) and blew it a kiss. And it made me cry. It made the goodbye real.
- Let's just make sure not to include the name Monticello in the subject title.
- Did Mrs. Beulah Garrett appear on the final episode?

- Will Tea still have her cute little blue house that she's had on GH?
- The breakdowns for the first episode of online OLTL have Tea's house being blown up by aggrieved mobster associates of Todd/Victor Jr.'s. They want her to pay up the money she owes them. She barely escapes with her life and is blind in her left eye and has extreme sensitivity in her left breast as a result of the blast.
- But what about the cute blue house is it salvageable?
- No, it's gone.
- I'll sign up tomorrow then and start a new nighttime soaps/Lorimar thread. I wasn't here to read the previous ones. How about, "I've Never Seen The Ocean" for a title?
Fans of "Knots Landing" should pick up the reference right away. Maybe that will bring in the rest.
I'm too shy to say something about "bulges in someone's pants." If I sign up I have to use my real name, because I did in the past and since I'm not a member, other people used my name to write nasty, gross posts.
I have no problem using my name. If I am going to write something publicly I feel I should stand by it. Not, that I'm criticizing everyone else-it's just a personal thing for me. Also, it's not like I have any inside info to leak.
Is there another daytime thread yet to continue this? A P&G one would be fascinating. How about "A Thousand Other Worlds", it's from an Irna Phillips original story bible for "Another World."
I am really fascinated about all the stuff we don't see, the process of putting a show together everyday, executive decisions and why the writers were always recycled in the last years, the whole HW, breakdown Writer, Script Writer thing seems so wasteful and uncreative. But, that's just my outsiders impression. Maybe someone knows what went on in those writers rooms? Should I do it? Or will I just get hate posts?
We'll see.
- OP, since your saga as a rep at CoeCoe continues, please start another thread.
