MGM remaking "BEN-HUR"

Does anyone really like this story? I mean, the 1958 movie is great for what it was, but why would I want to see a new version?

• The gay subtext will be removed and there won't be any beefcake like Charlton Heston and Stephen Boyd

• CGI for the chariot race.

• Ben-Hur = Henry Cavill Messala - Bradley Cooper and the gay subtext is preserved!

• Was it added? I thought it was in the book that the Ben-Hur films were based on.

• No, r8, it isn't in the book (published in 1885). Gore Vidal was brought on the work on the script and suggested to director William Wyler that Messala's motivation was unrequited love for Ben-Hur. Wyler loved it and had Vidal talk to Stephen Boyd but to NOT tell Chuck Heston because "he'd fall apart" if he heard. Boyd loved the idea and totally plays it that way.

• This remake totally needs to be a gay pron film - make the subtext the text and cast two hot young Hollywood pieces of ass... Ryan Gosling and Michael Fassbinder maybe? After all the nudity in the remakes of "Spartacus" and "Gladiator", why the hell not?

• A remake sounds like a good idea. I couldn't bear looking at Charlton Heston's smug face in the original.

• I'd love it it they played up the gay subtext, especially the master-slave reversals with the Roman admiral who adopts Ben-Hur. I'm not holding my breath, because it'll probably be marketed to the Christian nutball wing. Mel Gibson made truckloads of money by marketing directly to those people, it can't have gone unnoticed.

• It will work if they ramp up the gay subtext. I always got the feeling the Roman admiral (Jack Hawkins in the 59 film) had the hots for hunky Ben at the oars - that "ramming speed" scene is hot with the 2 men looking at each other, Jack savours Ben's ramming speed ..... later he adopts him and gives him his ring, its almost like a wedding ceremony, and Ben is like his hunky boyfriend when they arrive in glory in Rome. Bradley Cooper could be a terrific Massala, or Tom Hardy ?
