Oliver Stone's Untold history of the United States
Great information and footage, but the narration....could he be worse?
Shows some of the corruption of Bush, but does not delve deeply enough into that force of evil.
- It sounds like he's just reading quickly from a book. It's annoying to listen to him.
- I want to find a subtitled version so I don't have to listen to this drone.
- I hope the book is much more informative. I have watched all the episodes; it was a mistake to cover a very long period with little explanation of the principal mens' lives. For example, Henry Wallace is all good and Harry Truman is all bad.
- It's just dreadful. Mr. Stone hasn't done anything good since 1985. His last ten movies or so have been dreck. And this series is impenetrably poor, simplistic, and simple-minded.
- I love it. The only thing I don't love is the piss poor imitations of famous people speaking. I mean we have the actual audio clips of JFK. Why use a guy who sounds like Mayor Quimby?
- Not to mention the fact of his numerous misprunications.
- Stoners are not the most reliable source of historical information. For several reasons.
And when they take themselves too seriously, they lose all value.
- You know there's a problem when so many others come off worse than Stalin.
- According to Oliver Stone, each and every President of the United States is worse than Stalin.
Feodor
- Oliver Stone is batshit crazy and I just can't bring myself to watch/listen to anything of his anymore.
- No, Kennedy gets way more praise than he deserves. Everyone president from Truman to Nixon gets blamed for Vietnam, but Kennedy...'JFK grew so much in office, and came to distrust the CIA and military.' In fact, it's very difficult that Kennedy would not have followed much the same course as Johnson.
- "Platoon" was the only tolerable thing he has ever done, and that was 26+ years ago. He's a sensationalist, and everything he does reeks of "tin-hat spin." He's boring.
Not his biggest fan
- Just give the man an 8 ball and lock him in a padded cell.
Humans
- I'm so glad someone mentioned his droning voice in this otherwise superb series of documentaries. I go mad listening to it.
- I'm changing my mind about it. Halfway through I was watching it just to chuckle at his bias, but is there any more bias in his 10 hours than there is in a day of Fox News?
Maybe, just maybe, people will watch it and realize for the first time that the traditional histories are just as one-sided in the other direction. It's certainly a nice change from the comfort food they serve on The History Channel where the bad guys are always Nazis and the good guys land on Normandy Beach.
Maybe a few viewers will finally realize why people burn the flag and riot outside our embassies.
Maybe they'll realize that both sides, Republican and Democrat lie to them with equal vigor, and realize that Ike's Military-Industrial Complex is really running the show.
Fuck it, who am I kidding, I enjoyed watching it, beyond that who cares.
- I enjoyed it as it does attempt something ambitious, but he sure cherrypicks his events. However, his interpretations are incredibly pro-USSR and there's very little revelations of the "untold."
Grade C+
- Has anyone read the book?
Luscious
- Of course 'anyone' has read the book. It has sold it has been read.
