Canonization of John Paul II in October of 2013

Warsaw (kath.net/KNA) In Poland there is speculation about the coming canonization of Pope John Paul II (1978-2005). The Polish Catholic News Agency KAI reported on a possible date in October of 2013 this Thursday. The source for the unconfirmed information is not named. In order for the canonization to come, Pope Benedict XVI. must recognize another intercession, it says. It must follow after the beatification of 1 May 2011. On the 16th of October 2013 will be the 35th anniversary of Karol Wojtyla's election as head of the Catholic Church. Professor Dariusz Kowalczyk of the Papal University of the Gregorian in Rome has told Polish broadcaster TVP, that it is "very probable" that the canonization will take place in October for the conclusion of the "Year of Faith". The broadcaster speculates on the date of 20 October 2013. In Poland, there is great eagerness for a quick canonization of Pope John Paul II. Initially, the country's media had expected it for 2015 at the earliest. The canonization process of John Paul II has been the shortest of modern Church history. The Vatican is testing currently several reports of unexplained healings, which are attributed to the intercession of John Paul II. The postulator of the canonization, Slawomir Oder, said in May that in three of the four cases had first attempted medicinal examination. Preliminary to the beatification process, the healing of a French nun in June of 2005 was recognized as a miracle. The canonization is a solemn declaration by the Pope about the exemplary Christian life of a person and over his final acceptance by God. After the canonization, which will be completed during a solemn liturgy, the person concerned will be honored worldwide.

I love that the "miracles" always happen in tiny villages nobody knows about, to nuns. All the fucking time, to nuns! Nobody else. Why is a miracle never shown happening on live TV, or to someone who isn't a French nun?
The Holy Father did a lot of good in his many as the Lords representative here on Earth and now, he will continue to do from the other side for all eternity.
The Holy Father alienated millions of Catholics from the Church but taking the hardest line on all sorts of issues important to most Catholics. He did nothing to address the structural rot in the church and insisted on maintaining an all-male priesthood, denying communion to divorced and gay Catholics, going backward in reference to said groups, embraced the far Right Latin mass crowd, embraced weird sects like Opus Dei and the Legion of Christ (whose founder turned out to be a major pedophile), censored theologians around the world including Liberation theologians in Brazil and Hans Kung, helped spread AIDS with his refusal to allow the use of condoms, almost ruined Catholic higher education in America by enforcing orthodoxy on faculty, appointed a bunch of rightwing bootlickers as bishops and cardinals all over the world...as a pope he was awful. Maybe his greatest contribution was exposing the Church for the rotted hulk of venality it really is.
