So outstandingly beautiful, and wasted in such really awful movies.
Not all awful. Children of Men, Gosford Park, Bent.
Sin City was amazing too.
Agreed. I don't understand how he hasn't been featured more in big films. So damn gorgeous.
Closer would've been amazing if the Jude Law and Julia Roberts roles had been played by other people. Clive and Natalie Portman were incredible.
His best movie is Croupier!
I second Croupier! Great film! I also thought he was the best thing in Closer.
Definitely the best thing in "Closer" but I didn't mind Jude Law. Natalie Portman was better than she usually is and Julia Roberts was, of course, unwatchable.
Owen's a decent actor but there's some serious competition in his age group.
Clive Owen and Nicole Kidman getting together in 'Hemingway & Gellhorn'
My favourite Clive Owen movie is 'Bent'
He was perfect in it. I wish he could play in more such roles. I love dramas and i love well written dramas which can speak right to the heart without being fake.
You guys always act like actor's careers should always be going up, up, up. Not every actor wants to be Will Smith. Some actors find that overwhelming. It's not the kind of life they want to lead. I would bet Clive Owen is one of those actors.
Why isn't he a bigger star? Because he doesn't want to be.
He has weird plastic-like skin, as if it's made of Silly Puddy. I also recall a photo linked on DL that showed him sitting on beach, and his back was riddled with large black moles or a bad case of "backne". It wasn't an attractive side to him. I have thoroughly enjoyed some of his movies and his acting.
Croupier is excellent, he's great in Closer and Children of Men as well
I love Clive Owen. I remember when he had the big publicity build up as the next Big Thing. Now he's hard to find. Brilliant actor, too. He would've made a good James Bond. I love Daniel craig, but Clive would've been wonderful, too.
I find very few contemporary male movie stars out and out gorgeous. He's one that I do. And he's talented.
He was absolutely brilliant in "Derailed". Playing a character built like a longshoreman, who ends up getting pummeled by a man built like Olive Oyle was an acting triumph. Not to mention, DL fave Jennifer Aniston was brilliant and the film had an ending that you couldn't see coming if you've never seen a movie before! See it!
I bet Nicole was lucky to have a sex scene with him in 'Hemingway & Gellhorn'
Definitely was robbed of an Oscar nomination for "Children of Men".
One of the more interesting stories I've heard about him is that he's basically asexual. His not-very-attractive wife gets around (with women btw) and he not only doesn't seem to care, he doesn't have any extracurricular partners -- male or female -- of his own.
R34, nonsense. Don't believe everything you read in the magazines.
This was not in a magazine, r35(duh -- they'd be sued, if only to salve Owen's reputation).
This came from a second-hand source -- not too far removed in gossip terms.
I have one great Clive Owen story.
I was walking down 8th Ave in NYC and I hear his very distinctive voice behind me. I turned around and saw him walking with his young daughter and her friend. He is indeed very sexy - the combo of his looks, his voice and the way he moves. Of all things they were talking about muscles and the girls were mock-flexing their arms. Then the daughter in the sweetest little girl English accent said, "show me your muscles daddy." And I remember thinking, yes, show us your muscles daddy.
He looked better when he was younger.
Are you serious r34?
I've wondered about Owen, too. Why has his career withered the past 5-6 years? Has Daniel Craig taken all the big roles for attractive, fortysomething Brits?
I would let him do things to my no no...
I don't find him good-looking at all. To each his own.
Would have made a wonderful James Bond.
He is a cutie and simultaneously a serious man.
He seems dependable and sweet.
A great actor too!
I think he has a lot to give as an actor. If he only could play in more powerful dramatic movies, this guy is really charismatic.
I thought Hollywood gave up on him after both Trust and The International didn't do very well.
I think it's more a case of him being a grown up, and that Hollywood doesn't make movies starring grown ups for grown up audiences.
Joli laid ... not a traditionally beautiful man.
Julia Roberts was so miscast in Closer. I think her role should have gone to Kate Winslet.
Good point about grown ups and Hollywood, R46.
And I agree.
Jolie laid? I don't think that Jolie is so unconventional anymore as it comes to looks and her partners. She is with a traditionally beautiful man now, BRAD PITT!
r50: Are you punning?
Joli laid: French term meaning literally "pretty/ugly"--as in an ugly face that is somehow very attractive. Used more in connection with females--jolie laide. It's a great expression and there really is no English equivalent.
I've always thought Clive Owen was smashing and a terrific actor.
