Stick a fork into the Tea Party, 'cuz it's done
Only 8% of Americans now say they are members of the Tea Party. 49% of voters have an unfavorable view of the party, 30% have a favorable view. And most precious of all: 36% of Americans have a favorable view of socialism!

- Since they were nothing but the contemporary version of radical royalists, funded by the Koch bros and their ilk, they were doomed the minute everyone figured out they were the opposite of a true "tea party" movement.
- I sure hope you're right.
- They're like a special toxic edition of Sugar Smacks that's getting removed from grocery shelves.
- NOT in the Republican primaries and that's where they're doing their damage. It forces Republicans even further to the right and produces a Congress unwilling to compromise. The gerrymandered districts make this a real problem.
- Marco Rubio is still the sweetheart of the Tea Baggers.
- The Tea Party is the Republican party. They're not two separate entities.
- It's comparable to The LaRouchies, One Million Moms, American Family Association, and The Drudge Report.
It's weight is not measured by it's popularity, but by the deep pockets and shrill voices of its creators.

No. It's measured by how effective it is and how much influence it has. And if the last election told us anything, its these people are not effective and they have no influence. That Americans have a higher opinion of socialism than the Teabaggers is just the icing on the cake.
- R8, you are going to see Sarah Palin and Joe Walsh in 2014 and 2016. Every turd that falls from their mouths will be given the same weight as other political sound bites.
The money is not going to go away until the donors die.
- Unfortunately I see a possible evolution of the Tea Party, somthing akin to Canada's conservatives, where the truly hateful side is hidden.
- R9 They can be given as much weight as a thousand suns, and donors can shower them with gold, but it doesnt change the fact that the majority of Americans reject them and their values.
- "Precious", OP?
- They are only powerful because the powers to be ordered the media outlets they own to pay attention to these radical fringe groups which the powers to be created in the first place.
It's one ridic puppet show where rich and powerful individuals put on a show in order to manipulate the general public's opinion and - thankfully - so far failed miserably.
- "No. It's measured by how effective it is and how much influence it has"
Au contraire. The tea baggers have been *quite* effective and have much influence. Elder statesmen Boehner and McConnell shit their pants at the mere mention of them.
The Republican party overall is in thrall to these lunatics. (they seem to secretly love it however).
Anyone who thinks they're a simple thorn in Obama's side is deluding themselves. These assholes single-handedly stymied the economic recovery. And, as nihilistic, obtuse ideologues, will continue to act as agents of chaos and obstruction for as long as they are in office. Which will be for quite some time due to gerrymandering as someone mentioned up thread.
The only game changer I can see is if they shut down gov't over the debt ceiling and trigger a world-wide economic meltdown.
In which case, I wouldn't be surprised if their heads end up on spikes.
- Yes R12 Precious is a word English speaking people use to describe something that is appealing or pleasing. Many cities in America have a place where one can learn all sorts of useful information. Its sometimes known as a school.
- R15 is a flamer.
- R15 given the choice between being a flamer and being stupid, I would take flamer.
- But the Tea Party still enjoys a more favorable rating than Congress...lol...
- Flamers are way more fabulous!
- R14 has the correct interpretation, I fear.
