2. Grief counselors for as little as a student gets a hangnail.
3. Blind adoration for all things military.
- [quote]1. Roadside shrines to accident victims. Really hate this.
You're lucky. Where I live, it's mostly to honor shooting victims.

- 10 and R16, totally agree. And I'm throwing into the pot my mom's plastic kitchen clock emblazoned with: "The Harris Family, Est. 1974".
Someday that clock is going "accidentally" fall off the wall and break
- Absolutely everything hipster. God, I hate hipsters.
- Bandanas on dogs

- This song:

Butterflies should be mounted on the wall and not sang about.
- For me, "Butterfly Kisses" goes beyond twee and into camp, R21. It gives me the giggles.
- Bunheads.
- Those minivan decals of mommy, daddy, the four kids and the dog in descending order of height.
Car decals memoralizing dead friends and family such as "In loving memory of Cody Johnson 1988-2012". So you dedicated your '05 Corolla to honor him?
In God We Trust or Choose Life license plates issued by the state.

I saw one of those yesterday and I really didnt know what to make of it. It showed mom, two kids, and what I assume is dad, holding a brief case and positioned horizontally below them. What the what? Did he die and they are visiting his grave?
[quote]Car decals memoralizing dead friends and family
Yea, they are tacky. I always wonder if people are secretly looking for some sympathy with that. And the other thing is most of the time, the people they are memorializing die pretty young, like they are never more than 30. Kind of strange.

Yea, they really trust everything to God. That's why they are wearing a seat belt and driving with the doors locked.
- Misguided attempts at acknowledging death, usually via a weird therapeutic Christian perspective.
"Heaven now has 20 new angels looking down on us!" in response to the Newtown tragedy. Never mind that humans and angels exist on different planes, and humans do not ever become angels.
"She is singing with the choir up in heaven."
"(so-and-so) is now dancing with Jesus."
This last one was in a local obituary recently. I almost barfed.
- ....Christy Lane, boy that's a blast from the past. ...you do know she use to fuck Marjoe Gortner back in the day. They shared a house on Wonderview Drive in the Hollywood hills and hosted drug fuled orgies.
- Wes Anderson movies.
- Love
- People who post those "A best friend is..", "An angel is..", or "I may not be perfect..." image quotes on their Facebook pages.

This may be the first DL thread that I have read in which I agree with every comment in every post, so far.
And - animal gloves or hats on adults.
- R24, were both kids girls?
- Wes Anderson movies
- OP is a million years old.
- I love animals, but that godawful, treacly animal abuse commercial with Sarah McLachlan's "Angel" playing in the background makes me hit the mute button faster than the speed of light.

- Whenever people flirt in front of me. I am always overcome by the desire to tell them to get a room. I'm sure being in love is a great thing but it just isn't that great for the people who are not involved and are watching. I know I may come off as being jealous, but I am more annoyed than jealous. I know I'll get a boyfriend one day and I have no doubt a good one so it really has nothing to do with jealousy. I'm sure many other people feel this way as well.
- I hate it too, R36. It's dismissive to those who are with them and therefore rude.
Even worse, my ex and I had friends who were always making out in public places. One night we were waiting to be served in a restaurant and they spent the time sticking their tongues down each other's throats. I finally decided I was through with being part of their performance.
- Oprah Winfrey.
- "The Little Match Girl" is not "twee" or "sentimental." It's heartbreaking and tragic and not in a treacly way.
- The overwhelming use of the word "hero" for anyone who is only doing their job. Donated teddy bears and money thrown at heartbroken people who are then encouraged to "heal". The vast over simplification of grief and loss so it fits the American public's comfort level

- Years ago I had two roommates who played wheelchair basketball.
One of the players' favorite things was when a local newspaper or TV station would send out a young reporter to do a human interest story on these courageous and valiant young men who were overcoming such enormous odds. The guys played their parts perfectly, and somehow they managed to keep from falling apart until the reporter was gone.
When the story aired or was published, they would all get together and laugh about it for hours. It provided them with immeasurable entertainment.
