I have given up drinking and could use advice.
No, I haven't ruined my life, gotten DUIs, etc. I don't even drink all that much. But basically I don't like how I feel the next day -- sluggish, tired, blah. I'd like to cut it completely out of my diet (I am also trying to lose 20 lbs). Any strategies for socializing without drinking -- good drinks to order that aren't alcoholic, etc?
Thanks- Maybe it's time to stop socializing in bars. At social events, you can do what I did 8 years ago-bottled sparkling water or plain old club soda. If you seriously want to stop-find other social activities that don't involve clubbing.

- For drinks, try cranberry juice mixed with either club soda or sparkling water. It looks like you're drinking a cocktail. Never fails to fool those around you who insist you have a "real drink." You just have to order them yourself.
- The reason I stopped was my weight...9 pounds the first week. I don't go out nearly as much since I stopped drinking. I eat less, spend less.
Most non-alcoholic drinks in a bar are going to still have calories though. They often are made with Coke, 7-Up and Ginger Ale. Just order a Diet Coke. Or don't go out.
You'll lose a lot more than pounds...you'll lose the riff-raff bar crowd you think are your friends.

Exactly. I've been doing this for years.
And, if the people around me become too drunk for me to be able to abide their company any longer, I leave.
