But the Jersey Shore kids are nobodies? "Geordie Shore" is based on "The Jersey Shore." There's a connection there, yet Britain had no clue who The Situation was when he went on their Celebrity Big Brother last year.
How on Earth did the Kardashians manage to export themselves? They don't do anything. It's bad enough that they're big in the US for doing nothing, but doing nothing enough to make a name for themselves overseas?!
I understand how Paris Hilton made a career in Britain, even getting her own British television series -- she's rich, and she modeled. The Kardashians -- there's nothing to look at except Kim's fat ass. Britain knows who the entire family is.
Ryan Seacrest deserves his head served on a platter for inflicting this disgusting family on us.
They are famous because they are on television, the same as all reality show people. They are on the E! Channel for what seems like hours every day.
I doubt they are big in Britain. They aren't even big here anymore. Thank goodness!
They are big in Britain. There was some kind of stampede at a British mall a few months ago where the Kardashians were making an appearance.
Interesting about that stamped at the British mall is that every single one of the people there were a minority. There wasn't a white Briton to be seen.
Ab Fab was just making fun of them. I find it fascinating that they didn't capitalize off of their dead father and the OJ trial.
Nevermind Britain, why are they celebrities anywhere?
I think they are seen "ironically" in the UK.
I don't understand why they are celebrities in the U.S.
So their dad, or was he their grandfather, was one of O.J. Simpson's lawyers. How does that make them fameworthy?
Those UK people like them a fat ass
Britain seems to want to copy everything that's popular in America. If it's popular in America, then the UK thinks they should like it too.
The OJ connection isn't what made them famous. They became famous because of Kim's porn tape which her mom managed to market extremely well. From there, they began to build a reality show empire and now have clothing lines, modeling gigs and are actual celebrities.
Elisabeth Hasselbeck parlayed her Survivor stint into her gig on the View. Think of this as Kim instead of Elisabeth, porn instead of Survivor and the E Channel instead of the View.
The question is dumpling, why are they celebrities ANYWHERE! They are attractive, I'll grant you that, but they have no discernable talent among the lot of them, they are Hollywood tacky, and they are celebrity whores who will do anything to keep their names before the public.

They're famous enough to have been the butt of a gag on last year's AbFab Olympics special that got the biggest audience applause of any joke. I too was amazed that anyone over there even knew who they were.
That voice that one chick has is just grating. What's her name, Chloe?
[quote]There wasn't a white Briton to be seen.
I'm not sure she's white.
The UK loves American hand-me-downs. It actually thinks Jermaine and La Toya are big-time celebs in the US. Just go on their Celebrity Big Brother show, and you become royalty. The chav trash of Britain started this nonsense. "West side!" with their "bling bling." They don't even know where that shit comes from.
I wish they kept Paris.

Not really. Celeb culture in the UK is very different to celeb culture the US. UK celeb culture is based on pillorying people and holding them up to be mocked and torn apart. We do have some famous people who are genuinely respected and admired (e.g. respected stage actors) but they aren't 'celebs' in the same way and you'd never seen them in a sleb magazine or reality show. Read a copy of Heat magazine and compare it to Us Weekly or People, they're worlds apart. Heat et al and all the British celeb reality shows exists to humiliate, torture, and take the piss out of these 'celebs.' It's basically the 21stC version of going to Bedlam to google at the chained up drooling lunatics. We know the people who go on Celeb Big Brother are D list celebs at best, that's the entire point of those shows. Maybe some people (the 'chav culture') do genuinely like and look up to them as aspirational figures, but they're in a minority.
Of course that is pretty sick, and probably more sick than US culture where celebs are genuinely admired or at least treated with respect by the media.
I don't think they are, we are simply not bothered about them or their ilk.
I have a theory that a lot of it has to do with the Daily Mail and their online demographic marketing. The DM website gets most of its traffic from US visitors, and a few years ago they implemented a new policy to run a large percentage of US-focused stories in order to directly target the US online demographic.
But this has the knock-on effect of introducing a lot of US news, stories and 'celebs' to Britain. Which I don't think was really the intention, just a side effect. The Daily Mail don't care what anyone thinks as long as people keep clicking and giving them advertising money, and they don't care where those clicks come from. If publishing the entire thing in Chinese raised their hits they'd do it in a heartbeat. Kind of scary to think how much power a newspaper and website has to influence public opinion and create celebrities and news stories. That's more shameful for Britain that watching the Kardashian show, God knows.
I can't understand why those cunts are celebs in the U.S. They are idiots on par with the Honey Boo Boo family and Paris Hilton. I have never understood the fascination with "celebs" whose only claim to fame is being born with a silver spoon up their asses. Fuck the Kardashians, fuck Lindsay Lohan and her parents, fuck Paris Hilton, fuck Honey Boo Boo, fuck those Jersey Shore cunts. I wouldn't watch any of them on TV if my life depended on it.

And what do we call the dozens, (perhaps hundreds?) of shows the U.S. has copied or imported from the UK since the 1960's - from "This Is Tom Jones" to "The X Factor", from "Three's Company" to "Dancing With The Stars", from "Upstairs Downstairs" to "AbFab", from "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" to "Idol", and everything in between (too many to mention)?
Is the ratings for their E! show that good? Who watches it? Is it entertaining? Kim talks in a baby voice and always comes across as an idiot. Why is this interesting?
