Hugo Chavez 'only kept alive by life support' after cancer surgery. Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez is in an induced coma being kept alive by life support following complications during cancer surgery, it was claimed today. Sources at the hospital in Cuba where he is being treated told a Spanish newspaper he was showing 'very weak' vital signs, adding that doctors could decide to switch off the machines 'at any moment'.

• Cuba does not have better doctors than Venezuela. He went there because the Castros control the media and the special hospital for rich communists. The rest of the Cubans have shit for medical service. I've seen them coming off the boats. Extremely poor dental and medical service. The Castros run a toilet economy. Most of their doctors are two year tech. school grads.

• The idea that Cuba has great medical care is a lie. I work with a guy who was a surgeon in Cuba. The stories he tells me are horrific. They had to share stethoscopes, re-use needles and rubber gloves. The hospitals are over crowded and falling down. MRI and CAT scan machines are unheard of. The one x-ray machine they had was 40 years old and constantly breaking down. His parents are still there and he sends his father aspirin for his heart because aside from the black market, aspirin is unavailable there.
