Prime Rib question
I got a a couple frozen prime ribs for Christmas and only used one. The other, I took out of the freezer on the 23rd and put it in the refrigerator. I kept meaning to take it out and cook it, but holiday obligations kept coming up, and now I wonder if it's still ok to cook tonight.
The place I bought it said it was good for 5 days in the refrigerator, but is an extra couple days a problem?
- Give it a sniff. If it smells, then throw it out. If there is no smell, it might be okay (although it sounds dodgy given that it has been frozen).
- Shouldn't it be ok if it's been frozen/refrigerated? That's how beef is "aged" after all.
- Of course not, once meat is defrosted it must be cooked in 24 hours.
- R3,
No.
- How do you think they age meat, OP?
Rinse well, pat dry, salt, sear and into the oven.

- Yes. It will be fine. It will start losing flavor after day 7 in the fridge, but it will be safe.
