Why are there always several high-profile celebrity deaths in the last week of the year?
I had wrongly assumed that the high-profile deaths of 2012 were over and that there wouldn't be anymore until 2013, but I guess not.
The last big death in 2011 was Kim Jong Il on 12/19.
In 2010, it was Teena Marie on 12/27
In 2009, it was Oral Roberts on 12/15
In 2008, it was Eartha Kitt on 12/25
In 2007, Bhutto was assassinated on 12/27.
In 2006, Gerald R Ford died on 12/26 and Saddam was executed on 12/29.

Will George H. W. Bush follow him 6 years later?
"Why are there always several high-profile celebrity deaths in the last week of the year?"
= Spent the holidays alone and loved it!
Teena Marie is a high-profile celebrity ???
Maybe they hate New Year's Eve?

Really? Was it Popeye or Olive Oyl who did it?
R7 just had his penis washed by his mother, so is feeling frisky.
I remember too that it seems as if high-profile celebrities pop off around new years, but looking back over the records, it seems late Jan-early Feb and the summer are when we lose the most at once.
they do it just to piss off the producers of the Turner Classic Movies' "TCM Remembers" retrospectives.
R10, why does TCM put its remembrance reel together in early December rather than waiting until the end of the month?
Aren't they asking for trouble?
Norman Schwarzkopf just died
See, we were waiting for Bush and the fates took his General.
Death has yearly TPS efficiency reports to submit.
I've heard the death rate tends to fall leading up to the holidays and quickens after they pass - the holidays that is. People hang on...
I used to work for a hospice service. I asked some people there and they said people sort of hold on until the holidays. Just anecdotal though, no peer reviewed studies.
We were sad about Teena Marie not because we were big fans, but she was someone we saw around and appreciated.
r7 = Albert Redneck
Because, dummy, people die everyday and there is not some unwritten rule that "high profile" people have a cutoff date for the year.
When r19 posts, he likes to pretend his pnis can talk.
