Well, that's just swell. I was going to dodge the draft, but FUCK IT, I may as well go to Vietnam now. This news is so depressing. I went to see Bonnie & Clyde at the drive-in last night, but I was too depressed to enjoy it. Even listening to "Sgt. Pepper" isn't cheering me up. The Beatles have always cheered me up in the past. I hope Star Trek is not a rerun this week. I'll just die. Star Trek is the only thing in my life that I can depend on to make me feel groovy when I'm feeling bummed. Well, I like Mission: Impossible and Get Smart, too. Viv, you were one of a kind. I loved you dearly. I just don't know how I will go on. Oh well, I still have the memories. Maybe they'll play Gone With The Wind on TV one of these days.

Although I'm sure it's for the best that she and Olivier never had a child (considering that her struggle with bipolar-ness was manifesting itself by the end of the marriage), still, the world missed out on somebody who probably would have been an incredible actor!

If they had had children with one another, and I'm not sure why they didn't, their children wouldn't have been more fucked up than most of us.

R84 was trying to be clever, conflating three of her big movies (GWTW, STREETCAR, THE ROMAN SPRING OF MRS. STONE).
But it was Atlanta that burned down in GWTW, not her house. Her house, Tara, is still standing after the Yankee onslaught. Twelve Oaks is trashed, but not Tara.

by Anonymous | reply 95 | May 26, 2015 11:39 PM |
Does this mean Vivien won't get a chance to redeem herself after getting fired from "Elephant Walk"?
I heard that young starlet bitch Elizabeth Taylor manipulated the producers into firing Viv, so she could take over Vivien's role.
(But Viv got the last laugh - she paid an Indian shaman to put an Elephant Walk curse on Liz - let's see how slender Liz looks walking away, swinging her "trunk" in a few years.)
by Anonymous | reply 96 | May 27, 2015 12:48 AM |
On a related note, in 1965 Elizabeth Taylor, struggling in vain to lose enough weight to be believable in "The Sandpiper" (in the end they just threw a big caftan over her), had a beautiful young actress named Sharon Tate fired and removed from the set, because Liz couldn't stand the competition.
The only hit that comes out of a Helen Lawson show is Helen Lawson, and that's ME, baby, remember?

It's a little like blockade running!
by Anonymous | reply 99 | May 27, 2015 1:46 AM |
Vivien had to be let go from Elephant Walk after shooting had already begun and in a few long shots of her character and Peter Finch walking around his plantation, it's very obvious (and later confirmed) that it's short and by then thick waisted Vivien onscreen, not Taylor.
by Anonymous | reply 100 | May 27, 2015 6:09 AM |
As beautiful as Elizabeth Taylor briefly was, she was never Vivien Leigh. Leigh was a face that launched a thousand ships beautiful.

by Anonymous | reply 103 | May 27, 2015 6:52 AM |
Vivien is a lot of fun in the somewhat bizarre 1945 British movie, CAESAR AND CLEOPATRA, based on the play by G.B. Shaw. This stage-bound Technicolor extravaganza was the costliest film made up to its time in the UK. Made during the final year of WWII, it was a box office flop.
It's almost surreal to think of these hundreds of people in ancient Roman and Egyptian garb gathering on massive sets to deliver Shavian dialogue even as their nation is battling Hitler.
