NRA: We Need National Database Of The Mentally Ill
What? WTF is he talking about?
We already have that--it's called the NRA membership database.
but no national database of gun owners.
No R1, they'll also need the republican party membership database also
We need a database of everyone who contributed to Michele Bachmann's campaigns.
They are obviously nuts and should not own guns.
The Democrats gave into Wall Street, so they will give in to the NRA too.
Translation: "Small government for us, big government for others."
One and the same, R3.
No shit R1, I live in gun country and own a retail business TOTALLY unrelated to guns. One guy came in a paramilitary outfit with blaze orange buttons that said "Guns Save Lives" and an NRA hat. Another total weirdo answered my innocent small talk of "I hope this is one of your last Christmas shopping stops" with "I can't find any accessories for my guns (which I took to mean the shit to make them more powerful) he went on and on about how people were banning them, and maybe the government was secretly confiscating them. WTF? Those little bodies in CT aren't even in the ground yet and these paranoid fucks are running around fully armed and crying about their precious guns.
R7, they did the same shit in 2008 before the inauguration.
Obama's going to steal our guns, better spend lots of money on guns and gold.
I swear it's a repeat of the '80s survivor bullshit. I'm surprised there hasn't been another 'wealth unlimited' ponzi scheme uncovered as well.
Excuse me, Jackass LePew...
Registering Lanza as "mentally ill" (ie. every white guy's excuse for savagery) would not have stopped what happened because he used:
***HIS MOTHER'S LEGALLY-PURCHASED GUNS***
Let's create our own database of the mentally ill! I'll start:
1.Ted Nugent
2.Chuck Norris
3.Michele and Marcus Bachmann
4.Pat Buchanan
5.Fred Phelps
6.James Dobson
7.Rick Santorum
8.Rick Perry
9.Mitt Romney
10.Paul Ryan
11. Donald Trump
12. Allen West
The Voice of the Night
13. Dakota Fanning
Abigail%20Breslin
Louis Gohmert
Charles Krauthammer
Steve King
George W Bush
Dick Cheney
Sarah Palin
Define mentally ill.

What exactly do they mean by "database of the mentally ill"?
Would this extend only to those who have been formally diagnosed with serious, incurable disorders, or would it go as far as to include people who have sought treatment for mild depression?
r18, that's exactly my question.
All of America would be put into it. How 1984.
OP
Thank you R1.
[quote]Define mentally ill.
When murderer is a white male rather than black, Hispanic or Muslim.

Great--watch people who very much need mental health treatment start becoming afraid to seek it.
They sound like Nazis, don't they? More guns, place armed guards in every school - sounds like a good way to indoctrinate people into loving guns, good recruitment tool. Make lists of undesirables. What next? Send them to the showers?
Erm, you forgot me:
20. Victoria Jackson
They sound like crazy people.
But they don't have a diagnoses, so they won't be in the database. But they are the ones you need to look out for. They have always been the ones to look out for.
Dr. Oz was spouting this crap on Dr. Drew, he says we need a "department of Homeland security for the mentally ill!" It was odd watching too of the most self absorbed pieces of crap talking to each other.
Dr. Oz has no idea he would be on that list.
Dr. Oz is a Republican douchebag who conveniently stopped giving money to the GOP around the time he became really famous and got his own show.
Dear NRA, it takes a mentally ill person to know one. Just look around in your own midst.

I'm curious. Has the NRA ever met with any of the victims families in ANY of these tragedies?
It's a lot easier to make statements in front of a camera on your own turf. If you're that fucking adamant about your position, then why doesn't the head of the NRA meet with the families of these poor kids face to face and tell them this? Tell them that guns had nothing to do with their deaths. Tell them why the answer is to arm every teacher and administrator in America. Answer their questions.
It is so completely inappropriate.
90% of the disorders in the DSM would not correlate with aggression or violence.
It's the ragtag loser fuck who has NEVER sought treatment who would be likely to commit an act of violence.
The vast majority of people who seek treatment and receive diagnosis are usually very responsible people who would not be a threat to society.
r30, that would insinuate that the NRA feels personally responsible for these tragedies. This would and never will happen. The NRA will never admit or show any signs of guilt.
Instead they go into attack mode like 'how dare those damn socialist liberals to use this tragedy for their own wicked agenda to take our guns away from us!'
R30 is a moron
r33, are you for real?
Not%20r30
I'm sure a lot of people think that having a national database of the mentally ill is a great idea. The ACLU would have a field day.
[R33] is a habitual bed wetter.
Not R30, either.
I thought they were against big government. Making a national database of mentally ill sounds like big government to me...
JHC. Guess he's never heard of HIPPA (patient confidentality) laws. What's next: a national database of people's sexual preferences?
Someone should totally shoot up an NRA meeting or two.
Have Wayne LaPierre look into a mirror ... and start from there.

There is a casino in Pahrump, maybe 45 drive from Vegas, with a prominent sign in it's front door, "No Guns Allowed." They have a serious problem with gamblers refusing to leave their guns in their vehicles, getting angry, and then having to call security to handle it. So who's really mentally ill?
They are right about this. The mentally ill should not be sold weapons. The problem is that for many people, mental illness may be temporary. Once on these lists, it may be hard to get off. And then there is the issue of who would have access, so pretty soon you have employers and others wanting to access the list.
Of course, they forget about the other fixes like no semi-automatic weapons or big magazines.
Then of course you triple the already huge stigma of mental illness and nobody will ever get the help they need. Unintended consequences, how do they work?
41 & 42 are correct. Most of the people suggested to be listed in this thread aren't really mentally ill - but they are morally insane.
Let's get started.
Wayne LaPierre...patient zero.
What we need is a database for gang-bangers so we can track them down and rid America of this problem!

This is too Hitleresque. It's nobody's business if you seek treatment for mental illness. The very idea of 'a list' is frightening.
The majority of people killing people with guns are not mentally ill.
Wow - Dr. Oz - endorses reparative therapy and disclosure of private health information regarding those who can't help what they have - are we sure he's a real doctor? I really can't watch his show anymore.
Where do you draw the line? Would you limit it to people who are actively delusional? A threat to self and others? What about the sorts of paranoid personality disorders you'd encounter with many NRA members, including perhaps Mr. LaPierre? My problem with the latter is that diagnosis is subjective and in the eye of the one doing the classification. Didn't the Soviets use this sort of thing for purposes of political oppression?
I think it's called The Datalounge.
Oh, that's not fair r49. Just because we pretend we're Sumerian housewives, obsess about frosting and salad bars doesn't mean we're mentally ill...
On second thought.
R49 You are dead on. Too many people like that on here.God forbid if you disagree with the horde here....
