These idiot christians saying there are now 20 new angels watching over CT....
In christianity angels are separate beings.....dead humans don't become angels. Lord don't they even read that Bible they love so much?
Say something stupid, Brad.
Maybe those new little angels should go talk with Jesus and ask him what the fuck he and his dad were doing while they were being shot to death.
No, OP, they're unaware of a lot of stuff in there. A few years ago there was a quiz going around the internet regarding religion(s) in general and it was claimed that atheists and agnostics were much more likely to answer correctly. It was something like 15 questions. I, an agnostic on my best day, missed 1 of 15. Most American Christians can't even begin to get half of the questions about Judeo-Christianity right, much less those about other religions.
Oh and by the way, every one of my FB "friends" posting the Jesus quote "Suffer the little children to come unto me" quote are serious gun nuts. Every last one.
Same with the other Facebook posts today that have a young child saying, "God, how could you allow this to happen in our school?" God replies, "I'm not allowed in public schools." How fucking vomitizing.
It's just poetry, OP. what do you want them to say, "There are now 20 newly-dead children starting to decompose on the coroner's table"???
OP, Maybe some are comforted by believing that the innocent were called by God to Heaven to be angels, rather than the deeply depressing and frightening fact kids aren't safe when they go to school.
Well, it's that false comfort that keeps people from taking in the real horror in our society and doing something to stop it.
If Jesus didn't want gunmen killing a bunch of kindergartners he wouldn't have invented guns.
Wow - do people really post that, r5?
On NBC Nightly News last night, Ann Curry interviewed the monsignor from the local Catholic church. He told her about relatives of the victims coming into his church experiencing the full range of emotions. He choked up a few times while talking and expressed his horror and disbelief at the event, and his inability to comprehend it. Not once did he say that the victims were in heaven or some such similar platitude. Had to give him props for that.

How odd! Do they not believe in the infinite power of God? It's not like the school needs to collectively invite God in. He's not a vampire.
If a parent wants his or her child to work in tandem with God then teach him to do that. Throughout the day, wherever they are.
Well, everybody must cope somehow. No one criticized the OP when he went to glory holes to recover from the shock of Sandy.
And just what kind of watching do five-year old angels do?
Great. The audience of angels who watch me masturbate has skyrocketed.
I thought they believe God is responsible for when people die? If that's the case, then God obviously had a reason for these kids dying, and if it's because he's upset there's no more prayer in school, then I'd say God's a big shithead.
R8, Of course it's false comfort. Viewing tragedy results in extreme anxiety and depression in those prone to mental imbalance. What can they sensibly do? Will a candlelight vigil really make them feel less helpless? Would writing a letter to their congressperson to change gun laws make them feel more secure? Please don't suggest sending $$$ someplace.
Well, the could have said:
"They're in a better place."
Shared by some of my pastor friends on Facebook:
"In my role as a Christian minister, I have to speak up about the lie politicians and others are putting forth, that the CT shooting happened because "God has been removed from our schools."
This is a dangerous, irresponsible, and and theologically immature statement.
God is not found in the rules or activities sanction
ed by a school, or the doctrines that make that an issue. God is in the hearts of human beings, children included. And praying to God will not in fact avert the tragedies of our world...we've all seen/experienced that tragedy happens
God does not "allow" things to happen because we do not adhere to human-concocted doctrine and superstition.
Where is God? God is grieving with us.
But God is not smiting children because of the separation of church and state.
Some idiot parent on CNN was going on about how their kid escaped the classroom, running right past the shooter "There was an angel in that classroom protecting our little Johnnie".
Yeah, while letting another 20 kids get massacred.
people are so fucking solipsistic
Link, R19. Because I need it to smite people who are claiming this happened JUST because of the removal of "God" from our schools.
Hasn't God been out of the schools for a long time? They didn't mention god in my schools in the 80s and yet there were no shootings.
Ditto the morons posting on fb and twitter that the dead teachers have "earned their wings"...
But, people have referred to dead people being angels for quite some time.
The popular usage of the word "angels" has broadened, beyond the "separate beings" definition. I'm sure most people aren't thinking about some technical meaning and are rather using the term as its often used.
Does it really matter? It's just formulaic things people say to make themselves feel better. Yeah, it may seem stupid to some, but what's the harm if it makes them feel better?
I forgot, this is DL. EVERYTHING is worthy of derision - children, housewives, candlelight vigils, use of the word "angels", and on and on and on.
Angels in the bible are fucking scary. I don't think you'd want yourself or anyone you love to be an angel.
"What about Goblins, huh? Doesn't anybody belive in Goblins? You never hear about this. Except on Halloween and then it's all negative shit. And what about Zombies? You never hear from Zombies! That's the trouble with Zombies, they're unreliable! I say if you're going to go for the Angel bullshit you might as well go for the Zombie package as well." George Carlin
Yeah, tell their fucking families that line of shit. If I had a family member and this happened to me I'd be really bitter, sad, angry for a very long time and this kind of quote would guarantee a punch to the face.
"Well at least he/she went quickly"
"It was their time"
Silly religious people.
If they're all in heaven, then why should anyone grieve?
The answer is that we all grieve because we all--religious or not--intuitively understand the finality of death. Talk of angels, the childish need to feel that you can "live forever," souls that transcend death, etc., is all just a coping mechanism. Religion is stupid, but there are a lot of credulous people that seem to need it.
[quote]In christianity angels are separate beings
It's a metaphor dumb ass, you know what a metaphor is?
It's like when I say men are blinded by my beauty. They don't REALLY go blind. They get their site back in a couple of days
Christians can't help saying stupid things. Once they buy into the mythology & fairy tales, they are unable to process events rationally.
They'll say things like "praying for the family", or "he is in a better place", or "it's all part of God's plan."
Praying does a lot of good. Look at the recurring mass shootings. God has heard everyone's prayers to stop the violence, and He responded ...God said "NO!"
Satan's Little Helper
It is still amazing to me that grown adults seek comfort in the biblical fairy tale in times of stress. So rather than face up to a shorty situation and start to actively engage in finding ways of making sure or never happens again, a good proportion of the population simply retreat behind fairy tales.
