I can't wait for the release of new soundtrack on the 26th. Which cast recording should I download now?
None of them, because it is an awful depressing score and all the songs sound like dirges except for "Master of the House."
The 10th Anniversary Dream Cast, without a doubt. Also, R1 is a festering cuntblister.
The 10th Anniversary Concert. It has Colm Wilkinson as Valjean, Philip Quast as Javert, Ruthie Henshall as Fantine, Michael Ball as Marius, Judy Kuhn as Cosette, Michael Maguire as Enjolras, and Lea Salonga as Eponine. It's also subtitled "The Dream Cast" and they are! I just wish they had recorded the Complete Symphonic Recording. It is the only recording of the entire score, but apart from Ball and Quast, the other singers suck ass.
For what it's worth, Ruthie Henshall's "I Dreamed a Dream" has remained my favorite. She brings a lot of pathos, AND sings it in the note as they were written:
The original London cast is easier for a first time listen since it's more abbreviated than the long concert recordings.
I recently got a soundtrack called Les Mis Live! Recorded by the London cast in October 2010, with new orchestrations (some subtle touches but they're nice.) Quite like it.
And there's applause to enhance the sensory experience!
I take it no one much cares for the OBC recording?
I got from Netflix the DVD of 25th anniversary concert. It's fantastic. The only weak link was Joe Jonas.
I wish there was a CD of it, there only seems to be the DVD.
R3 That bitch never even cut her hair off!
R12, Nick Jonas, not Joe.
Frances Ruffelle is a squeaking pig from hell. Her vibrato is the reason people commit suicide.
The Broadway cast is uneven (the Marius is dreadful). Aside from Wilkinson, the best things on it are Judy Kuhn and Michael Maguire, and they're part of the "Dream Cast" 10th anniversary concert.
